Disappointing, low-energy Kendo exercise
I've always been a sucker for the tantalizing packaging of sex videos -even after consciously learning the maxim in the early 1980s that "the more attractive the cover, the crappier the video inside" I fall for the marketing ruse most of the time. A LEG FANTASY by British director Kendo is just such a case -its alluring photos on the back cover do not correspond to what you see on the screen after plopping the DVD into your player.
That holds true for the photo gallery bonus on same DVD, as opposed to the 90- minute feature. For still photography purposes, interesting low angles and other distorting shots create erotic tableaux. But in the actual video the camera (credited to Christian Black, Lisa Loves (a director in her own right working with Kendo) and "Kent Rydem" is generally aloof, almost Warholian in its remoteness and seeming disinterest in the XXX action.
Kendo also employs a muted, almost drained of color scheme, further artiness that has plagued his career. The stills, on box cover and in gallery form, are often vivid, but the live action is dull or faded looking. Not an artistic effect per se as in an imitation daguerreotype, just lousy filmmaking.
Typical of a Kendo release, the bonus "Behind the Scenes" short subject is more illuminating than the main event. Here we see Kendo interrogating his leads Holly and JJ, with blank expressions or unintelligible, mumbled (in a foreign language?) responses, virtually a parody of the crap that passes for "Making of" documentaries in the 21st Century. Kendo's questions are inane, and the issue of brain damage afflicting all and sundry cropped up in what's left of my aging cranium.
Film proper has its share of expected foot fetish action, though mainly involved in the perhaps impossible task, certainly a bridge way too far for Mr. Ken, of trying to suggest the fetish texture of nylon stockings. Best scene of this has the model wrapping the guy's cock in a white stocking that stylizes not only the blow job but later creates a weird masochist effect when same stocking reappears over his head as if he were changing profession from porn performer to cat burglar.
High heels are on view, but not given the true visual treatment they deserve -just becoming idle props. The sex itself is languorous and the editing atrocious (instead of coverage or different events to inter-cut Kendo keeps using the jumping around edits on the same master shot that professional editors are trained to avoid). Even Warhol did this intentional violation of the rules far better - see his underrated and groundbreaking technique on I, A MAN that impressed me 47 years ago when I saw it at my local Cleveland art house, and lingers still as a never-followed-up innovation.
Current daring! media edition of this DVD is dated 2010, but as IMDb reveals it is three years older. It was apparently shot in Prague with pick-up talent, plus the participation (oddly) of big-dick U.S. import Dillon, who starred several years earlier in the memorable DARK ANGELS films but is wasted here.
