Not a proper season
maciej-furst26 December 2023
Season 1 ends on episode 12. It just ends as if it were half way through a movie. There is no arc or complete story to the season, it is just unfinished.

I am so tired of studio's reducing the amount of episodes per season and not telling the whole story thinking it is good enough, it is not. In the 90's and earlier 2000's we received a whole season 22-26 episodes with a complete arc and ending of a story to a season. It looks like this is a thing of the past. Production quality is not an excuse, because the original has 26 episodes, and the first 12 episodes were more entertaining and exciting to watch compared to this, the racing there was simply done better. Not only that the remaining 14 episodes were also brilliant. So they can't blame production costs, it is just their complete misuse of funding.

This is just poor quality in comparison, another example of a company cutting content to maximise profit.

A true throwback and an unexpected gift
Mysterygeneration14 January 2024
For someone who loves cars a lot, the MF Ghost is a true throwback and an unexpected gift that came at the perfect time. You would be ecstatic if you grew up watching Fast and Furious at the movies, Initial D on TV, and Need for Speed on the computer. I'm willing to wager that most of you will be impacted by what you witness by the time episode 2 concludes. You'll see that it's still relevant.

For the older audience, heed the summary and stop asking questions about it until you've seen it for yourself. Let's not give anything away because you already know what to expect.

For those who don't know, this anime is about drifting and racing with sporadic romantic and dramatic moments. Nothing else has to worry about; the anime will reveal its mysteries when the moment is right.

Once more, I'm at your disposal only by being silent. I might give away a few spoilers if I say anything. All I can say is that it's possible that these are Second Generation Initial D characters. Assume that it is Initial D, some eighteen years later, and that sure, people are related to the old guard directly.

To tell the truth, I was afraid that the trailers would not live up to my expectations. However, after seeing the film tonight, it's clear to conclude that Felix Films did a fantastic job. Everything essentially hinged on the animation of the racing itself, which has turned out to be far better than I could have imagined from the trailers.

I adored the anime's overall atmosphere, which had beautiful lighting and distinct settings. The foggy track, in particular, was incredibly entertaining to watch with all of its intricate details. It should go without saying that an anime that focuses a lot on cars would need to do a fantastic job with them or else everything would fall apart.

It's highly likely that even individuals who haven't watched a single second of Initial D have heard anything from the soundtrack. With time, the Eurobeat that was popularized back then has became famous. And now that MF Ghost has returned, he likely possesses considerably more vigor. It's reasonable to say that MF Ghost's BGM is killer. Both the opening and closing sequences have a similar level of catchiness throughout the entire piece.

You know you'll love this if you like automobiles, drifting, racing, driving, Eurobeat, or Initial D. For the rest, try it, it'll grow on you soon and before you know, you'll be looking for the original Initial D.

Japanese (or Toyota) propaganda?
agungismoyo26 December 2023
I love cars, that's what got me into this series in the first place. I've watched Initial D as well.

My opinion : Do you remember the movie "Need for Speed (2014)" ? It is similar in that both featured really nice cars and great racing scenes, but both are very lacking in storywise and dialogues...

Even the racing scenes, albeit cool, are kinda Japanese propaganda in my opinion. Yes, GT-86 is a great car, fun to drive, and I would love to own one, but saying that it is on par with European V8 or V10, is the same as saying that a katana is better than automatic guns...

Yes, the driver skills do count, but unless the 86 is driven by a professional world-class racer and the others are just some high school teens who just got their driving license, it is very hard to believe an entry level sports car with 2.0L 4cyl Boxer can go toe-to-toe with a Huracan or 911 in a speed competition. Even the original Initial D didn't get that far...

So far so good
rohitdixit-779009 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode was a bit lacking. The but the second, the second was the one that had me hooked. The euro beat kicking in and him hitting that drift all of a sudden and we get to see Akana's 86 flashbacks was so good. I think its on a good track from here on. Hope it gets more fun from here. Glad they made this anime. There aren't many car anime that one can watch after Initial D & Wangan Nights and older episodes have bad animation. Initial D movies had better animation but they don't give you that feeling that an can anime convey. So glad old initial D characters are still doing so great.

Not quite initial D but lotsa drifting to be expected
bumberbee5 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who grew up watching initial D would surely resonate with this sequel where the protagonist is a student of our fav takumi fujiwara (aka jay choi) this time. It's set in a Japan where it's been taken over by EVs and ICE are a rarity. Eat that Honda and Toyota!

Driving the newer 86, as usual, his most underpowered and basic car up against the GT3s R8s and GTRs, leaves everyone in the smoke.

But this time no sugar daddies but skimpy panty-clad angel pompom girls await the finish line. It's more of a love story about a race angle falling head overhead for 19yo British Japanese heart-throb.

First impression: Not a solid start
s-27176-621206 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When I finished MF Ghost's prequel (Initial D) and found out that there was a sequel releasing, I was hyped, the show seems really promising. When the first episode came out, it felt like it was a bit empty, with 20 minutes feeling like 10 minutes. And the idea of a low-end sports car such as the GT86 going against supercars, such as the 911, R35, 488, Huracan, and R8? Yes, I know that there is a grip to power ratio requirement, but still. This anime will heavily rely on nothing but plot armor and stuff. The only realistic part of the racing are the other low-to-mid end sports cars, such as Alfa Romeo's and Lotus's, and a MK5 GR Supra. But hey, there's a lot more to come, and a new episode is coming in a few days.

First edit: Words cannot describe how good episode 2 was. Go check it out for yourself.

Low quality romance anime
naroiden30 November 2023
My review is not influenced by Initial D for any reason. I judged the anime in its own context.

MF Ghost has a problem of having no sense of what kind of person their target audience would be. It's supposed to be about racing and cars right? But then why 90% of the anime is about pervert girls who automatically wishes for romantical relationship with the main guy like it's supposed to be a soap opera that targets teenage girls? These girls in every chance saying "wow he is so hot I wanna throw him and do it" is seems more like whoever wrote the story trying to live their own romantic fantasy and it's cringy. It would be okay if it was a little situation in the anime but 90% of the anime is the main guy and the girl "dating" when the girl try to attract the boy for her but the boy is blind to her advances. The whole element of the anime is the drama of this romance. No surprise the story will obviously turn into a love triangle and romantic tragedy soon after. Only romance in racing genre is the main guy being carsexual just like in Wangan Midnight, no one cares which character has crush on which person in racing/car genre fiction.

So if the race and car part lasts for 5 minutes in the anime, you watch nonsense boring romantical situations for 24 hours. That's the ratio here.

Race aspect is so not cared about they even used some low-quality animation work in race scenes. Basically the animations is like how news channel show how an accident happened with low-quality animations. Cars not moving in a realistic way at all. They slide and drift that's obviously impossible for the law of physics like how a kid makes a car move with their hand so they don't move naturally.

In general visual quality is not good too. Nothing looks eye-pleasing or cool just like how it was in Initial D. At least drawings in Initial D was so bad it looked funny, in MF Ghost they worked on visuals so much it looks too bad for another reason. Everything has unrealistic lights around and everything looks more cartoonish. Everything glows like neon lights. IDK if the art director using prescription glasses and never cleaned their glasses so they believe everything glows because that's how they believe the world looks like.

The story progression is too slow and basically anime's focus on romance bored me to death when naturally I wanted to watch it for race. If I wanted to watch romance I would watch Days of Our Lives.
