John Wick? Then yes.
ryanayers-3897311 February 2024
This anime series commences with an impressively rapid pace, immediately captivating viewers with its stunningly executed opening sequences. The blend of dynamic action and strategically placed quieter moments skillfully outlines the foundational premise of the story. As someone relatively inexperienced with the anime genre, I found the quality of the animation to be exceptionally high, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail and artistic expertise inherent in this medium.

However, I did observe that the narrative setup seemed somewhat rushed. As a newcomer to anime, I would have preferred a more gradual introduction to the storyline, allowing for a deeper immersion into the world and its characters. Despite this, the swift pacing did not significantly detract from the overall objective and allure of the episode.

Moreover, the power system introduced, while only glimpsed at first glance, appears to hold substantial promise. It suggests a depth and complexity that I anticipate will unfold as the series progresses. This aspect, along with the intriguing narrative and visual excellence, contributed to an overall enjoyable viewing experience. I am eagerly looking forward to exploring the subsequent episode and further understanding this anime's unique universe.

Like reading my first shogun manga
crux-611 February 2024
First, I am not a manga or cartoon watcher. I saw this on HBO and it appealed to me.

I started watching and it had a good start with action and the normal good story telling. There was like 2-3 minutes in the middle part that I wondered if it was gonna be slow from there on out.

But it did not let me down and it continued to deliver content and some great slash scenes.

I like this type of story telling, for "normal" shows when they set a boundary for what is possible they have to explain all "out of the ordinary" things as to not break the boundaries.

Here, it does not matter, there are no boundaries, we know how this works, the producers know it and the delivered a great EP1, it felt like my fantasy world when reading a really good shogun manga, will be back for more.

Ep3 update: Ep2 was OK, it contained some valuable storyline items. But after ep3 I am not so sure, it sure had storyline, but I dunno, something lacked, can't put my finger on it. Rating went from 9 to 7, I am not looking forward to the next episode as much as I looked forward to ep2.

Ep5+6 update: My hopes for the series died in the previous two episodes, but apparently it went for charging, the 5ep and 6ep was fantastic episodes, now I look forward to the next one!

Die hard with a vengeance (not the movie)
sktraut22 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Ninja Kamui is a visual and auditory wonder. It also doesn't hurt that it has a compelling story. Regardless, the animation and sound design are pretty jaw-dropping. Someone else's review mentioned this reminding them of John Wick, and to that I say yes. If you like one-man-army-type stuff, this will impress you. The fight scenes look and sound like what whiplash feels like, I imagine.

I will now share a quote from the second episode that convinced me to give this a solid 10. It gives you an idea as to how relentless the hero is. It's easily the coldest line I've ever heard out of a TV show. Spoilers.

"Listen here. I'm going to burn their eyes into your memory forever. You are about to be dropped into the pits of Hell, where you'll hear the sound of skin being peeled off, bones being shattered, and spines ripped out whole. In spite of your heart stopping, there will be no sweet release of death. Even in oblivion you'll tremble in fear of the oni that lie beyond."

If John Wick + Cyberpunk 2077 had a baby
kyuubicreeper4 March 2024
Exactly what the title says, this show is if John Wick and Cyberpunk 2077 had a child. The music has been outstanding so far and though the story is a basic revenge plot it does it well. Cyberninjas with new tech and old ancient magical techniques, an art style and animation that rivals JJK, outstanding choreography and extremely brutal fight scenes. This show is what I had wished for if they somehow brought back Ninja Scrolls. This show is worth the watch and I can't wait to see where the story goes next and how the world develops. The pacing is also very good. Extremely underrated and deserves a lot more hype. If you're looking a fast paced action shounen with ninjas, sci fi tech, fantastic music, and a decent storyline to carry it through then this show is for you. Highly recommended!

Fantastic animation with EXCELLENT action.
gstevenreid26 February 2024
This show is great. The action scenes are amazing. The story is well done. It's over the top , but not to much, while fitting the story. Reminds me of my childhood, with all the great ninja movies. This show is definitely for mature audiences. A ton of violence, with mature language. The fight allthe fight scenes are incredible . Fantastic job choreographing all the action scenes.

I can't get enough of this show. Only 3 episodes in so far, but I can't wait for more... keep em coming !!!! I'm already hoping that they are planning on doing a 2nd season. Great ninja shows like this will always have a special place in my heart..

Anyone giving this anything other then a 7 or better is simply HATING. Sad how there are people out there that think they are going to get some glorious victory/payday in their life for bashing something you can tell is going to be over the top AMAZING.

I am being 100% serious when I tell you my jaw dropped for the entire first 3 minutes of the very first episode. Everything is clean. But for some reason, you can see every movement. You know when your watching something and you slow it down to see what is going on with the movements? Here we have something that clearly shows everyñ

Let's see what else is in store for us!!!

Warning: Spoilers
After one episode in, it's all ready setting the show up for some serious success. From the amazing visuals to the unexpected identity swap. I don't write many reviews but this show has me really excited for what's to come. Who doesn't like ninjas? This show brings ninja to a whole new level with also bringing raw emotion and storytelling at the same time. I advise everyone who reads my review or anyone else's review to please give this one a try you will not be let down. The director sunghoo park is the same genius who brought us S1 of jjk and we all know the success that show brought to the table. Enjoy!

Decent, and that's it
agwolff23 March 2024
The anime is very promising and it's interesting that HBO is producing it but the story falls very flat and the plot is nothing new: vengeance and lots of action. Basically a John Wick anime ripoff. This is not entirely a bad thing if well executed but so far it does not impress: the animation is top notch but the voice acting is ATROCIOUS. It definitely breaks the immersion. Also, the characters are kinda flat, we are 5-6 episodes in and I simply do not care for any of them, the vendetta motive of the main character is just not enough to make me excited. Hopefully this series will improve with the next episodes.

It has potential.
MrFactual14 February 2024
As an action series, it has potential, the choreography in particular is great however it's not amazing, it lacks detail, only some scenes of the choreography actually has detail beyond a typical fist fight and the animation is great as well but hopefully the long/wide range shots will be as good as the close range shots but even then with the close range shots things seem to just be appearing and disappearing, one ninja appears, they die, they disappear, another ninja appears, they die, etc rather than showing the audience what's actually happening in the environment through a long/wide shot angle but the close shot angles are fine, just lack a bit of detail in terms of choreography but the animation makes the choreography seem outstanding, however imagine that choreography but with horrible or semi horrible animation, it wouldn't look to good right? My point exactly, choreography is only good when it would look good even with amateur animation. Think of Fog hill of Five Elements for example, rare choreography, rare animation, absolutely amazing, and each scene of fog hill of five elements has a lot of detail, the fighting scenes in particular has a lot of detail that you wouldn't seen in any other series, and fog hill of five elements utilize physics a lot more correctly compared to other animes. This review by the way only focuses on the action side of things for Ninja Kamui since we haven't seen much of the story side yet (that means the 10 stars are solely for the action)

Good but rushed plot, terrible animation
andrewrobertdaly5 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The plot of this anime is very intriguing, it will get you hooked but will not live up to the potential. It probably needed twice as many episodes. The animation budget must have run out because the back end of this show has some of the worst fight scenes I've ever seen. Not a horrible anime not great it was mid but I'd personally rather watch a kid anime that has better animation. It looked like they were trying something new but ended up looking like a grotesque mix of hand drawn and CGI. I would recommend a different mecha anime if you want to watch something visually pleasing or a better political anime.

Absolutely outstanding. No spoilers
FirefighterMovieFanatic23 February 2024
With only two episodes down, I am absolutely enthralled by this show so far. With the exception of a little bit of voice acting from one of the main characters who you will meet early on, this show appears to be absolutely flawless.

It is immediately entertaining and so far pretty easy to follow. The fight scenes occur often and are beautifully done, action-packed and choreographed quite well.

The soundtrack that goes along with them, pairs nicely and really enhances the overall experience. Props to the musicians who made such high tempo songs, while secondarily supplementing them with emotional music when required.

I cannot wait for the third episode, I cannot wait to see what happens, I would state the only issue that I have with this show at this point is that they did not drop all the episodes simultaneously so unfortunately I cannot binge watch.

Seriously check this out, it is so good that after watching the first two episodes, I had to write a review and go back and rewatch the first two episodes once more.

Outstanding work to the creators. With all of the horrible stuff that has come to the screen recently, this is absolutely refreshing and engaging.

Started off strong but fell off
chikel7 May 2024
It was amazing at the start. Great concept, decent story, great fight scenes and simply beautiful animation. I gave it 10/10

Then, I don't know what happened. They got tired? Ran out of budget or lost interest? But the characters weren't properly developed. I couldn't bring myself to care about the cop, the main character got flatter as the story progressed and they killed off the one character I cared about.

Worst part? The animation and fight scenes that were one of the major selling points got worse. It became a nauseating, fake-looking CGI fest. I quit halfway through episode 13 because I just couldn't stand it anymore.

The 7/10 rating is entirely due to the first few episodes, the rest deserve a 5 at best and 3 if I continue watching it. I hope they fix up.

Amazing start, falls off very hard
jimbah7266 April 2024
When this show first aired, it was really damn good. Top tier animation, not corners cut, an interesting story. As it has progressed, however, it's now CGI-ridden trash. Without spoiling, the combat went from beautiful animated ninja fighting to something that is not at all to the same quality that the show started with and now relies almost entirely on CGI to function. That CGI is noticeable and bad.

The story is interesting and compelling, although possibly a bit generic and predictable. But with the current level of animation, I'm no longer interested in watching. At episode 8, I just skimmed and decided I was no longer interested. It's truly a shame considering how good the first few episodes are, but the quality has plummeted, and the show is now just kind of bad. Not worth watching.

Warning: Spoilers
Sunghoo Park hasn't disappointed me to this day. E&H Production deserves a standing ovation for what I just witnessed. The story hasn't unraveled yet but the action is edge of your seat amazing , they spared no expense to give us these amazing visuals for a story that is as dark as it gets, I want to understand this world now, it was sad but kinda of John Wick ish because of the subject and the why, but it is what we have been missing since the film "Ninja Assassin ", they can literally make a movie based on the pilot alone... watch this as long as your not squeamish because this is 100% rated R material, Bravo a great job making and old tale seem fresh and intriguing.

Not great at writing reviews but here we go:

The fight scenes are immaculate, the murderous group we're shown at beginning that has ties to the main character are brutal and we continue to see that as the episode unfolds, the mc himself seems like he'd be a great character and with this being a show with revenge as its main premise, i'm really excited to see how the rest of the story goes.

Also although it was hinted, the identity swap at the end quite took me by suprise.

Anyways, this show is definitely up there and i would no doubt recommend aswell as it potentially becoming a 10/10 down the road if it continues down this path.

If John Wick Was Anime...
tonyebikemejr22 February 2024
This would be it.

This might be a bit early for a review but boy oh boy. This has got to be the best ninja animation I've seen since being on this planet. The storyline. Basically a revenge animation series, some elements you'll recognise from John Wick chapter one. Episode one will get you hooked.

As someone who's recently (during COVID) got into anime I was surprised at how good every fight scene was. At times I thought they may have put some guy in a motion capture suit but I thought don't be stupid this is anime they can do whatever they like and take things to the extreme.

I may have given this 10/10 but the only downside I have is that I wish the episodes were a tad bit longer.

If Cyberpunk 2077 and Ninja Gaiden Had a Baby, It's Ninja Kamui
psgorio9 May 2024
All flash, no substance. I typically use this term when giving my take on video games, but it can certainly apply here for this high octane anime on Max that focuses on ninjas and shinobi. At it's best it delivers an adrenaline junkie filled cavalcade of fast paced action with pretty smooth animations for the most part, with the exception of some of the last few episodes where the animation got a little strange and funky. In regards to the story, it starts off at a typical revenge tale with a brutal opening episode but unfortunately kind of begins to lose focus after that. The pacing is a problem and keeps jumping around without staying in one spot long enough for the audience to absorb what's happening until the final climactic battle when they try and rope it all in and it just feels very messy overall story wise. However, if you just want something to pretty much shut your brain off and enjoy the flashy pretty colors and ninja battles with over the top cheesy at times dialogue that feels like the English voice actors are just showing up for that easy paycheck and reading off script, then you may find some entertainment to be found with this one. But alas it is still no Blue Eye Samurai, which to me was top shelf Americanized anime of late.

My views
fortniteever21 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This anime has no words, it is very unique, there is room for improvement, and it has very spectacular battles, and if it makes the story a little more clear, it will be great, and if it explains a little more about Joe Logan's past, you can understand the story better. Overall, it is unique, and if a little story If they improve the writing, there is no room for words and it can be the best anime of this year, and the setting of the anime can also be improved, and apart from Joe Logan, they should also explain about his family and give variety in Joe's ninjutsu, but overall it is a very good anime.

Need something to curve you action crave?
pqkkgjpwd25 March 2024
I'm no author/ writer, just a viewer of A LOT of anime. I like all anime nuts I have my opinions. This review is just some of my thoughts about the show. I think it's a good show all around with its own quirks.

The writing is okay, the shows pacing is really solid in the beginning, but as the series has gone on it's seemed to slow down a wee bit (This isn't a bad thing, just a little jarring essentially when the show starts off the way it does.). The show has a really strong start as mentioned, and it hasn't failed to keep me on the edge of my seat. Very well done. Hope the pacing starts to pick back up an continues on a strong end. (As of Ep 8) If you are an action fan that doesn't mind a lot of gore, this will fill all those thrills you've been seeking out of a this American Anime (or animated series, however you wanna categorize it.) It has a A LOT of strong comings, and only one true short fall in its writing. A that leads me too. My only grip about the show is EVERY episode they want you to know they are "Ninja's". Every other sentence spoken is about some character being a Ninja. It's really a turn off, if they keep with this writing and constant reminder someone is a ninja, or it's their ninja pride. I may consider discontinuing my watching. I know a wee bit petty on my end. But it's mentioned so often. It REALLY is that much of a turn off. Just pay attention, and you will notice it. Even if you aren't looking for it you'll find it.

Great first episode
owolewamichael21 February 2024
I greatly enjoyed the first episode. Great pacing, great animation and great choreography. It has incredible potential for an action anime. It can be compared to the likes of Arcane, jujutsu kaisen and demon slayer in terms of animation and fighting scenes. It flabbergasted me. This is just the first episode. The fact that it is so good is really uncanny. What a show. I also like the ninjutsu showcased in the series. This series didn't even have hype before it was released. It might just be one of the greatest pieces of fiction this decade. I guess we just have to wait and find out. Anyways I would advice you all to watch it. It is a great watch. I might give another review when season 1 is over.

It's visually pretty and that's about it...
ajsamue-762107 April 2024
I can't stand when anime is rated differently from movie or TV shows, why do basic standards get lowered just because it's anime? I had really high hopes that it would be a really cool show about an assassin, it's visually beautiful, but everything else is such a let down. Here's why:

1. The storyline is so basic and slow. I'm 7 episodes in and nothing has any real purpose. It's just a guy looking for revenge in the most boring way possible, sprinkled in the typical dumb cop that thinks his gun will eventually work against ninjas running at 200mph.

2. The main character is boring. You cant connect with him. There's nothing about him that's interesting, he just wants revenge. He's too much of the teenage silent, but edgy trope.

3. The other characters are just there. They offer nothing of worth to the show. They don't have any personality that makes you route for or against them. Some flashbacks are meant to be sentimental, but, again, there's isn't a character worth putting emotion into.

What made people like John Wick were the fight scenes. There are some cool fight scenes, but more talking about nothing than fighting or interesting background information.

Action scene will blow your mind!!
kawsar-8269622 February 2024
That's the first time I'm writing a review.

I have seen a lot of great anime, movies and web series which are obviously better than this but you gotta watch this. You won't be disappointed if you're an action lover also wants good trilogy in story like me. Just give it a try.

One of my friend suggested me to watch this but at first I didn't have much hope for this Anime. When i started to watch the story didn't feel slow in any way. I didn't expect this series to be that good. All the action scenes are satisfying to watch also well animated.

I'm just so hyped after watching only 2 episodes so far.

I believe it will deliver more bad@ss episodesss..

Terrible Soundtrack
alexandraclay-166378 April 2024
Show is absolutely fire! The fits are hard, the plot is intriguing and intricate but omg.. The music? It is almost unbearable. The show deserves a great soundtrack. The intro and outro song are awful and don't even get me started on the fighting scene music. I have almost muted the fricking scenes! They had the opportunity to implement some really good rock songs but the assignment was definitely missed on whoever choose the soundtrack, they failed drastically but other than that the show is definitely worth a watch and a renewal, hopefully with a much better soundtrack lol!

Also hoping it gets a new season soon because it is well deserved.

Ninja assassin plus John Wick
urkman-618501 April 2024
If the movie Ninja assassin and John wick part 1 had a baby the name would be "Ninja Kamui". I've always been a fan of the Ninja genre ever since watching Kung Fu movies as a kid. I've always been fascinated by the history of the ninja of how they weren't from the upper class like the samurai but they derived from the poor class of society such as farmers. This anime gives a futuristic taste of ninja life it also has elements of capitalism from a tech perspective as they maneuver and lobby to push their products and innovations forward in search of supreme power. Kind of reminds you of companies like Apple, Microsoft, Samsung etc. So far the anime is good and refreshing. I just hope it doesn't get stale like Baki did.
