The Brothers Newport?
timstokes-5573214 December 2016
Imagine the brothers Grimsby. You then remove the slapstick humour and replace it with alleged humour. There's no million dollar sets or crew..... its actually a cheap camera and one bloke with a fag in his mouth. You mix in the Welsh chav from Newport(proper welsh wales)and his love for his possibly polish girlfriend. In many ways this film faithfully recreates a night out in Newport except there's more lager in the real one. The cast seems to be made up of professional bouncers and their mates. As a result they manage some OK to good fights (they actually do this bit fairly well). There's more Newport in case you forgot what it's like. While it's not the best film but OK for ironing in front of the telly. I also enjoyed hearing a lot of welsh accents. Given a five for a good effort.

Shoot on sight

Warning: Spoilers
Evan Reed (Marcus Shakesheff/ writer, director) is a former MI-6 agent turned mercenary. He is hired to steal a file from a military contractor supposedly dealing illegal arms to the Saudi government. He was not very quiet in the smash and grab and is now on the run with everyone and their mum looking for him. He is helped by Info (Lee Bane) a friend in a wheel chair. His pregnant girlfriend (Claire Carreno) gets kidnapped and he wants to save her.

This was a straight forward action flick. Not much into twists. It was apparent punches were being pulled during the fights. The fact everyone was looking for Evan was not well developed as it seems only one group was actually after him. The bulk of the film consisted of two main fight scenes, the car fight which was ridiculously long, and the rescue scene. The soundtrack was made-for-TV quality with a sad lame piano piece near the end. No one in the film could shoot straight.

Marcus Shakesheff is primarily a stunt performer. He excels there and that made the film entertaining. His ability as a director and writer needs work. 2 1/2 stars Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

6 minutes in and I'm looking for the escape key!

Right from the start the characters exhibit as much emotion as a cardboard box. the fight scene at the beginning was choreographed by Donald Duck and it doesn't get any better. The only reason I watched it and continued to watch it was for the beautiful scenery of Newport. I don't have much else to say about this movie, I expect its not easy putting a movie together but this seemed to lack a lot of things maybe it was the directors day off, I mean how many MI6 agents do you see driving an old Renault Megane Convertible.

And you have to love the exotic Newport accent...lol. But on a serious note AVOID this movie like the plague, bad accents, bad scenery, bad acting, terrible props, fighting scenes reminiscent of the old John Wayne cowboy fight scenes, the one in the back of the car is a classic. If you persevere with this movie then you will have a good laugh although it will have been unintentional

GOOD LUCK

An action gem!
WelshSergioLeoneFan23 November 2019
You can clearly see the effort put into the choreography, the humour and grass roots approach to film making.

This groups of mates got off their arses and made a movie! I wondered how these guys grew and developed so looked them up.

One is now a top level choreographer and has won a Taurus Award! Others are stunts on some massive films.

IMDb is an unfortunate congregation for "have-a-go" film critics who have little comprehension of what makes a great film. So this film is getting a tough time. But if you can look at what these guys have created, there is more story, depth and motivation in these action scenes than the majority of modern action movies.

On that basis alone, it's worth watching.
