Rob Benedict, whom Supernatural fans know as Chuck, has put together a funny short film in The Sidekick, which offers a look at the underdogs of the story and what happens when a sidekick has to figure out what to do after he's no longer someone's assistant. The film first premiered at Comic-Con in 2013, and now, it's been released digitally, on iTunes, Amazon and Vimeo and will be available on Hulu in March.
BuddyTV talked to Benedict about the short film, its digital release, and why everyone should watch it, as well as his return to Supernatural for episode 200.

Digital releases seem to be the way to go for a few different video projects these days, and now Rob Benedict is following suit. The actor from the CW’s Supernatural series is releasing his short film The Sidekick on iTunes, Amazon, and Vimeo On Demand on February 3, 2015.
Written by Benedict and directed by Michael J. Weithorn (of The King of Queens), The Sidekick stars Benedict as Max McCabe, a 40-year-old, obsolete superhero sidekick who is fired by his boss Captain Wonder (played by Ron Livingston) in favor of a younger associate named Kid Loco (Jason Ritter). Max makes a new friend (Lizzy Caplan) and must learn to forge a new path for his life. The Sidekick co-stars Martin Starr, Ike Barinholtz, Josh Meyers, and Key and Peele’s Jordan Peele.

It’s not about the superheroes. It’s all about their sidekicks.
San Diego Comic-Con International 2013 premiered “The Sidekick,” a short film about an aging sidekick who seeks a new purpose in life.
Latino-Review participated in a roundtable discussion with the cast of the short film before their presentation to the attendees of the convention.
The participants included actors Rob Benedict, Lizzy Caplan, Richard Speight Jr., Josh Meyers, Jordan Peele and director Michael J. Weithorn.
The discussion topics range from how they were approached for this project; hopes for a full TV show or expanded series; the costumes and even stunt work (or lack of it).

Well hey there crazy kids! Melissa here with a first day Comic-Con report. It’s my first official Comic-Con, and I’m super stoked! Because the schedule is so crazy here, I’ll be giving you recaps every day, and following up with the juicy stories and crazy pics.
Last night was the preview night, followed by the Hitfix – The To Do List kick off party at Hotel Solamar. Cast members Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Bilson, Alia Shawkat, and Scott Porter were there to party it up… and dance to some pretty sweet tunes.
Todays schedule includes roundtables with the Workaholics (which isn’t a movie, but hey… it’s Comic-Con!), The Sidekick Premiere starring Rob Benedict, Lizzy Caplan, Ron Livingston, Jordan Peele, and Martin Starr, Europa Report will be doing a panel, and one of the most talked about panels of the day is Dexter.
Also, William Shatner joined Roseanne Barr...

Los Angeles — Nine years ago, the inaugural episode of "Lost" captured Comic-Con attendees' imaginations when it first premiered at the fan-driven extravaganza, and the surreal series about plane crash survivors went on to become a cultural phenomenon. This year, more than 10 new shows are angling to land similar success when they touch down in San Diego this week.
Such new live-action series as "The Avengers" spin-off "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," android buddy cop drama "Almost Human" and supernatural saga "Sleepy Hollow," which stars British actor Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, will be hyped with Comic-Con presentations. The mission? Attract cult followings akin to "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones."
"Going to Comic-Con has always been really, really, really high up on my list of things I've wanted to achieve in my career," said Mison. "The first of them is going to Comic-Con. The other is becoming an action figure.
