NBC has put in development a comedy from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Sugar Lyn Beard (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates) and Sony Pictures TV, with Beard attached to star. Co-written by Beard and Guy Endore-Kaiser (Comedy Central Roast of James Franco), the untitled half-hour centers on Dr. Olivia Boudreau (Beard), a 35-year-old hard-charging Doogie Howser-style prodigy. When she has a complete breakdown in the operating room and loses her medical license, she is forced to…...

It's insane to think that someone currently nominated for an Oscar in a Martin Scorsese movie would have something to prove, and yet that’s exactly the position in which Jonah Hill found himself last night. Even if 2013 was pretty much the perfect year for Hill's career trajectory — one that most comedic actors would reluctantly admit they aspire to — it was actually a year of backlash for his public persona. First, there was the noxious phony version of himself Hill played in This Is the End, an image which was soon fortified in an infamous Rolling Stone interview that had him coming off as above everything. Then there was the Comedy Central Roast of James Franco, in which no less an authority than James Franco observed: "Look how full of himself Jonah has become." With so much bad PR hanging over his head during a career peak, it was...

Exclusive: Comedy Central is betting big on actress-comedian Natasha Leggero. The comedian, who garnered a lot of attention with her wild set as a roaster at last year’s Comedy Central Roast Of James Franco, is a voice cast member of Comedy Central’s animated series Brickleberry and a recurring guest panelist on the network’s breakout new late-night show, @midnight. Now Comedy Central has greenlighted a scripted pilot starring and executive produced by Leggero and a stand-up special headlined by her. The pilot, Another Period, hails from Ben Stiller’s Red Hour, with Drunk History co-creator/director Jeremy Konner directing. It was created by and stars Leggero and Riki Lindhome as Victorian-era heiresses. Shot reality style, the comedy follows the misadventures of Newport’s first family, The Bellacourts, a family with nothing to offer the world, but who have so much money that it doesn’t matter. The show...

It seems James Franco is now the hardest-working man in show-business -- if you look back at his 2013, that is.
Franco's multi-tasking started to seem like a Joaquin Phoenix-style put-on a couple years ago; not only was he writing, directing, and starring in various films, but he was also, it seemed, studying for graduate degrees at several universities at once. But then, it became apparent that he really was spreading himself too thin when he practically fell asleep onstage while co-hosting the 2011 Oscars. He took a lot of flak for that, but he hardly seems to have lessened his pace.
Indeed, the Oscar jokes ceased once Franco returned to the good graces of moviegoers with the 2013 smash "Oz the Great and Powerful."
According to IMDb, Franco worked on some 49 film and TV projects in 2013, and while many of those were just guest spots on talk shows, that still means that,...

Nick Kroll is to host the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
The Kroll Show star will honour the best in independent cinema in New York City on Monday, December 2.
"I cannot wait to host the Gotham Awards as I've always wanted to meet Batman in person," Kroll joked in a statement.
"This is just one example of the soon-to-be classic jokes I will bring to this celebrated event. Seriously, it's an honour to be asked by Ifp."
The Gotham Independent Film Awards were founded in 1991, initially to pay tribute to films produced in the Northeastern section of the Us.
Kroll is currently prepping the second season of his Comedy Central series, which will premiere in early 2014.

Love is definitely in the air! Jennie Garth couldn't help but pack on the Pda with boyfriend Michael Shimbo in Los Angeles on Thursday. The two were spotted leaving a lunch and took a quick moment to kiss while riding an escalator. Garth pulled off her best rockstar chic look in a fedora hat, skinny jeans and a pair of adorable black ankle boots. Meanwhile, Shimbo looked perfectly dressed for his lady friend, sporting a denim jacket and "I [heart] NY" T-shirt. It looks like things are still heating up for the fairly new couple, who went public with their relationship in early August when the two attended the Comedy Central Roast of James Franco. The...

Guy Branum is one of our wisest and bluntest gay comics, and that’s why we should be terribly thankful he’s got a forum like Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, the now-daily FX talk show, to vent about issues important to gays, non-gays, and angry queer nouns everywhere. He just threw down about the eyeroll-worthy Comedy Central Roast of James Franco, and I think society just improved because of it. Luckily, Aziz Ansari and Andy Samberg used some of their stage time at the roast to call out the gay panic in the room too, but Branum’s version of a throwdown is much more damning.
This brings up another point about James Franco: He isn’t a good subject for a roast. He starred in three good movies (and Freaks and Geeks) and cares about graduate degrees? Snooze. The only intrigue he has to offer is...

On June 11th, her divorce from Peter Facinelli was finalized, and it didn’t take Jennie Garth too long to find love again.
The “Beverly Hills: 90210” babe attended her daughter’s soccer practice with her new beau Michael Shimbo on Sunday (September 8) in Los Angeles.
And it looked like Jennie and her internet executive hunk were having a fabulous time as they held hands and enjoyed the family bonding moment together.
Garth and Shimbo got people talking with their flirty canoodling during the “Comedy Central Roast of James Franco” in late August, and it seems they’re getting pretty serious.

Jennie Garth famously split from husband Peter Facinelli back in the spring of 2012, with the divorce just being finalized this past June.
Now it appears she has moved on to a new beau. Garth stepped out with Michael Shimbo at the end of August for the Comedy Central roast of James Franco (pictured above). A source close to Garth tells People that the two have been steadily dating recently.
The source also says that Shimbo is a San Francisco-based media executive who serves as the CEO of PlanesTrains+Automobiles, a video travel channel. Garth is apparently serious enough about Shimbo to introduce him to her "90210" co-star Shannen Doherty.
Don't you love it that Garth and Doherty are friends in real life?...

Sarah Silverman was all jokes at the Comedy Central roast of James Franco, but she has been as genuine and heartfelt as possible to discuss the death of her dog, Duck. The comedian had to put down her 19-year-old pooch on Sept. 3 due to his deteriorating health, and wrote an "obituary type thing" in his honor.
"Duck 'Doug' Silverman came into my life about 14 years ago. He was picked up by the State running through South Central with no collar, tags or chip. Nobody claimed or adopted him so a no-kill shelter took him in. That's where I found him -- at that shelter, in Van Nuys. Since then we have slept most every night together (and many lazy afternoons)," she writes on her WhoSay account. "He was a happy dog, though serene. And stoic. And he loved love."

For Sarah Silverman to get so serious, it must have been love. The comedian's dog, Duck, died yesterday at the estimated age of 19 after being in poor health for some time, prompting a heart-felt tribute from Silverman, who at first shared the sad news on Twitter and then wrote an "obituary type thing" on WhoSay. "It always tickled me that even though we were different species He was my best friend," she first tweeted shortly after midnight Wednesday. "Duck left me today but I forgive him." Silverman—who had some of the night's best lines at the Comedy Central Roast of James Franco, which premiered Monday—then expanded on her feelings for Duck earlier today,...

James Franco might not have the longest career to look back on, but the actor proved a worthwhile choice for Comedy Central's latest roast. The Labor Day premiere of the annual special raked in 3.1 million viewers in its original broadcast. Even better: Comedy Central Roast of James Franco topped all broadcast TV outings on Monday night, excluding Under the Dome, with a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49. And in the cable network's targeted men 18-34 demo, the roast averaged a 4.3 rating. Those numbers more easily best the haul of last summer's roast of

James Franco: no Charlie Sheen. About 3.1 million people watched the Comedy Central Roast Of James Franco last night — 2.4 million of them being adults 18-49, and 1.9 million in 18-34, with 1.2 million of that group being guys. Yes, Franco’s roast is up double digits compared to last year’s Roseanne roast, like Comedy Central said this afternoon — including the not-surprising 64% lift among 18-34 guys and the even less surprising 88% spike among 18-24 guys. But Franco wasn’t in the same league as Sheen, who’d clocked 6.4 million viewers when Comedy Central skewered him the same night CBS unveiled Sheen’s Two And A Half Men replacement, Ashton Kutcher. If you add in Comedy Central’s two replays of the Franco bashing/lovefest last night, during which he took a lot of heat for his epic Oscar sleep-hosting, the cume climbs to 5.2 million — still not up to Sheen’s premiere stats.
