Two long rock songs were popular at college radio stations in the early 1970s: "MacArthur Park" and Don McClean's "American Pie." Their length allowed the dj to slip one on the turntable and go to the men's room.
I always preferred the R&B sensibilities of McClean's work. If you didn't want your cake to melt in the rain, remember to bring it home. Also "American Pie" was the inspiration for a zillion dorm room debates on what it meant. Fred Mogubgub's short film fits the song perfectly, with its quick cuts illustrating the many references. If you like "American Pie", Mogubgub, cartoons or the good old days, you should enjoy the one a lot.
