Cap'n Turbot's full name is Captain Horatio Turbot (Francois calls him this in several episodes, such as "Pups Save the Diving Bell").
Marshall is a Dalmatian, Rubble is an English Bulldog, Chase is a German Shepherd, Rocky is a mixed-breed dog, Zuma is a Chocolate Labrador Retriever, Skye and Coral are both Cockapoos, Everest is a Siberian Husky, Tracker is a Chihuahua, Tuck and Ella are both Golden Retrievers, Rex is a Bernese Mountain Dog, Liberty is a Dachshund, Al is a Basset Hound, and Nano, Mini, and Tot are all Pomeranians.
The voice actors change even through English speaking countries, with versions for USA, Canada and the UK.
All of the major characters' names apply to their jobs. Ryder is the only one to ride his vehicle on every mission. Marshall, the fire dog, is named after a fire marshal; Rubble is a construction pup; Chase, the police dog's name, refers to a police chase. Rocky the recycling pup has a name starting with "R" because of the "Three R's" (reuse, reduce, recycle); Zuma the water rescue pup's name is derived from the filming location of "Baywatch" (Zuma Beach, California), Skye the pilot's name refers to the sky. Cap'n Turbot's surname (Turbot) is a type of fish. The three recurring pups, Everest, Tracker, Rex, Liberty, and Coral, also have meaningful names; Everest, the snow rescue pup, is named after the snowy Mt. Everest, Tracker can track down anything using his advanced hearing, Rex the dinosaur rescue pup is named after a Tyrannosaurus Rex, Liberty's name refers to freedom. It is named after the Statue of Liberty, and Coral is named after the coral reef. Robo-Dog's name refers to a robotic dog. Tuck, Ella, Al, Nano, Mini, and Tot's names, however, aren't indicative of anything.
It's a common misconception that Marshall is afraid of heights; he's scared of flying. As said in 'Pups Save A Toof '(Season 1).
