A Surprisingly Great Halloween Special
BabelAlexandria9 October 2020
One of our favorite Halloween specials. It takes place in a vaguely New England town, with a pleasant Halloween festival, including the obligatory contest (for largest pumpkin, of course). In any case, the fall atmosphere, including the country settings, are very well done. In contrast to most Halloween specials, which feature the supernatural, this story is basically a mystery with a naturalistic explanation, solved by George and his child friends. The only thing which requires suspension of disbelief is the vaguely anthropomorphic monkey himself (even if he doesn't talk), raised by a man who always wears yellow clothes and hat.

Watched it in 2017, 2018, and now 2020 (didn't take it to Princeton in 2019).

A great total experience

Warning: Spoilers
My child has loved this special for years and watched it countless times. It is a classic mystery in a children's version. It deals with natural explanations but also with the notion of stories too good to be spoilt by realism. The story is good and the music is charming. I find myself singing the songs from time to time.

My son's favorite Curious George movie
gian_992 November 2017
My son fell in love with Curious George when he was 4 and us in love with the show now. This is his favorite movie of the George series: it's easy for children shows' Halloween specials to scare a 4 year old kid, especially if he's not been exposed to a lot of adult shows or news (my son mostly hasn't, and definitely hadn't when he was 4 two years ago). This special didn't scare him at all, even if he did get that Halloween is about being scared a little. As usual it was sweet, educational, and funny (some lines from the movie being endlessly repeated by my son for a week was the "bad" part, maybe). We still watch this any time it's on. I highly recommend this to parents and children.

outstanding kids feature!

This was without a doubt one of my favorite kid films ever. Joe Fallon (writer) did a wonderful job of creating a timeless Curious George story - complete with a mystery, the Man with the Yellow Hat, and all the George hi-jinks we have come to know and love. The way they were able to devise a Halloween story for kids that brings in the right elements yet still keeps things kid-friendly was incredible. My kids have probably watched this a hundred times, with either my wife or I watching it with them at least thirty or so times. I am still enjoying it, even after all those viewings, and that's gotta say something. :-) By the way, if anyone can come up with contact info for Joe Fallon, please share, I would love to tell him what a great job he did. Thanks!

Way too scary. Not for kids!
BOOMdaGOD5 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As someone that watched the movie at a young age I was scarred for the many years to come. The No Noggin concept is way too scary and even after the reveal of it just being a squirrel the fear that you initially received does not fade. It clearly uses advanced horror film techniques to adequately scare all the viewers, children and adults alike. This I find very odd for a kids film to do as the audience will obviously be mostly children. After building up a fun franchise for kids, the writers throw this movie into the mix in order to scare their whole audience, and most likely scarred many adults too, with how horrific some parts of the film are. The movie should have it's rating changed as it is clearly not meant for kids at all!

My favorite movie to watch during the Halloween season
TheTKK21 November 2023
This movie is my favorite movie to watch during Halloween time, this tops any Halloween movie ever made for kids. It is a little spooky to give kids the real Halloween feel and has an amazing story with compelling characterization and implements the characters from the show very well. Another reason why this movie is great is the sound track, oh lord the sound track. It makes me dislike the guy because the songs aren't on Spotify. Joe Fallon and Nick Nolan's work on this movie is amazing. The song "Kinda Sorta Haunted House" gives you the exact feel a Halloween movie should give you. All the songs in the movie give you the spooky feelings of Halloween, yet still give you the joy fulfilled feelings you felt as a kids. Please show this to your kids during the Halloween session, not only will it give them a greater appreciation for movies but will give them a newfound appreciation for Halloween as a whole.
