German sales outfit Patra Spanou Film (“Blue Moon”) has acquired international rights to “The Pleasure Is Mine” (“El Placer Es Mío”), the debut feature from Brazilian-born screenwriter and director Sacha Amaral, whose prior efforts on short “Billy Boy” earned him a slot at the Cannes Cinéfondation program in 2021.
The boutique sales agency has also shared an exclusive first-look teaser with Variety ahead of the drama’s premiere in international competition at this year’s Bafici in Buenos Aires, running April 17-28.
“Films from Argentina have been ruling the arthouse film scene for decades, and talents like Sacha Amaral are to thank for this. With ‘The Pleasure Is Mine,’ he created characters and places of raw beauty, intense and rich dialogues and a main character whose charm – despite his flaws – is irresistible,” Spanou told Variety.

Lil Wayne stopped by The Tonight Show to perform his single “Dream” with the help of house band the Roots and three backup singers. The track, which comes off the rapper’s new album Funeral, sees Wayne reflecting on nightmare scenarios.
“I had a dream I was broke,” he raps in the high-energy performance. “No diamonds and no gold/Most saddest story ever told/And I had a dream I was a fool/No mansion or no pool/I woke up and I screamed/Thank God it was just a dream.

“Mean Streets” may have reflected the New York City that Martin Scorsese knew, but more often than not, its many imitators reveal how little posers seem to know about acting streetwise. And yet, that doesn’t stop successive generations from trying their hand at sharing their own tales of hard-luck youth on the mean streets of … wherever they hail from, as in “Billy Boy,” whose angsty young male protagonists tempt cruel fate in a city the movie never quite gets around to naming. (There are indications “Boy” was shot in L.A. and Detroit.)
You can’t fault now-25-year-old “American Animals” co-star Blake Jenner too harshly for this shallow muddle of a screenplay, as he was apparently still in his teens when he wrote it several years ago. However, inexperience is not a viable excuse for director Bradley Bueckner, even if this is his first directorial feature. He’s been a busy editor,...

The Miami Film Festival is scrambling after the producers of Billy Boy pulled the Blake Jenner passion project from the lineup without explanation.
The film, which stars real-life married couple Jenner (Everybody Wants Some!!) and Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), was scheduled to make its world premiere at the fest March 4. But Benoist recently filed for divorce from her husband of nearly two years, setting up perhaps an uncomfortable reunion on the Miami red carpet.
Adding to the awkwardness, the film contains plenty of steamy sex scenes between the former flames who met on the set of Ryan Murphy’s Glee. Still,...

Twenty-three years after the beloved cult classic Dazed And Confused was released, writer/director Richard Linklater is giving us a spiritual sequel in the form of Everybody Wants Some!! which opens in theatres April 8th. While Dazed And Confused gave us a very slice of life look at High School in the 70s at the end of the school year, Everybody Wants Some!! gives us a brief glimpse of College in the 80s at the beginning of the semester for a group of freshman. Set in 1980, the film follows the hilarious shenanigans of a Texas college baseball team during the weekend before class starts. We Are Movie Geeks caught up with three of the cast members ahead of the movie’s release. Blake Jenner (Jake), Tyler Hoechlin (McReynolds) and Ryan Guzman (Roper) sat down with Tom Stockman to talk about their film and what’s it’s like working for Richard Linklater.

Calling all Gleeks: a few of the McKinley High New Directions members need your help. "Glee" star (and "The Glee Project" winner) Blake Jenner has written a feature film, and he and his fiance/"Glee" costar Melissa Benoist need some assistance to get it off the ground. The couple has turned to Kickstarter to help fund the movie, and they're more than halfway to their goal.
The campaign, which ends on Wednesday, Dec. 11, has raised more than $62,000 for "Billy Boy," about a troubled 18-year-old high schooler (Jenner) who meets a waitress (Benoist) after a night of partying. She inspires him to change his life and live up to his potential.
The movie is already partially funded, but Jenner and Benoist are seeking $100,000 to help cover the rest of their expenses. They hope to start shooting in late May or early June of 2014 so they can finish the movie in time...
