Quotes

  • Javier Esposito : What are you doing here, bro?

Richard Castle : Well, you would know if you would've answered my call.

Javier Esposito : I must not have heard it ring.

Richard Castle : You rejected it. On live television.

  • Richard Castle : A washed-up sitcom star dangling from a hook? Does it get any better?

Kevin Ryan : I grew up watching that show. Charlie Reynolds is highly underrated as an actor. "2 Cool For School" is a timeless gem.

Javier Esposito : I seriously doubt that. Not that I ever watched it.

M.E. Sidney Perlmutter : Mr. Castle, you're back. But not by popular demand.

Richard Castle : Good to see you, too, Perlmutter.

Kevin Ryan : Do you have a time of death for us?

M.E. Sidney Perlmutter : Uh, between 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. The cause is obvious. He plummeted off the roof and landed on the hook.

    Javier Esposito : Possible suicide.

M.E. Sidney Perlmutter : Based on the crane's distance from the building and signs of struggle on the roof... he was pushed.

  • [watching Beckett and McCord from the breakroom]

Richard Castle : Maybe we should go over there and just invite them in for some coffee, you know?

Javier Esposito : We are not serving them coffee. You bought this espresso machine for the NYPD. *This* is NYPD coffee only.

Richard Castle : Come on, guys... That's a little harsh.

Kevin Ryan : Harsh? Beckett's a Judas. Her and her partner just hijacked our case. Whose side are you on?

Richard Castle : Your side. Look, guys, I'm... I'm on your side.

Javier Esposito : Hey, Ryan, isn't it a little weird that Castle shows up the same day that Agent Beckett takes over?

Kevin Ryan : Yes, it's quite a coincidence.

    [they start advancing on Castle]

Richard Castle : No. It's not... a coincidence. Yeah, well... No, actually, yes, it's a coincidence.

Javier Esposito : Maybe... you and Beckett are in on this together. Maybe... you are her inside man. You are Judas' Judas.

  • Javier Esposito : Well, if we knew the feds' angle, we'd have a leg up on solving this.

Richard Castle : Sorry, guys. I've yet to come up with a crazy, genius theory yet.

[Castle notices Ryan and Esposito have stopped walking]

Kevin Ryan : You don't need to... Not when *you* can go directly to the source.

Javier Esposito : Get Beckett to give us the lowdown.

Richard Castle : Okay, wait a minute...

Kevin Ryan : We get much-needed case information, you get to clear up any lingering doubts about your loyalty. Everybody wins.

Richard Castle : Okay, guys, no, I can't do that, all right? After D.C., we promised we wouldn't...

Javier Esposito : We did you a solid getting you on this case, Castle. It's time to pay up.

Richard Castle : Guys... this is my fiancee, okay? What does it say about our future if I keep pushing the boundaries?

Kevin Ryan : Castle... your whole relationship is built on a foundation of your boundary-pushing.

    Richard Castle : Good point.

  • Kate Beckett : Hey, I got your text.

Richard Castle : Hey. I just wanted to check in with you. You know, it must be weird for you, being back here at the precinct, working a case.

Kate Beckett : Yeah. Yeah, it is.

Richard Castle : Yeah, especially since McCord's little gag order prevents you from accessing your most effective investigating tool. Me.

[hands Beckett a cup of coffee]

Kate Beckett : [laughs]  Yeah, you are a tool, all right... Wow.

Richard Castle : So, uh, she's not here right now, so what's the harm in giving me a little... tidbit?

Kate Beckett : [looks at her coffee]  This is a bribe. Castle, you're *bribing* me with a *latte*?

Richard Castle : No, I am not. Come on. Don't be ridiculous.

Kate Beckett : This is low, even for you.

Richard Castle : Look, I can solve this. I just need a little more to go on.

Kate Beckett : Castle, you're not gonna "Castle" me on this one.

  • Martha Rodgers : [Castle is, once again, irked at Pi]  Darling, couldn't you just pretend to appreciate Pi's efforts?

Richard Castle : What efforts? Half the time, I don't know if I'm smelling our new compost bin or my daughter's rotting ambition.

  • [sees a news report on the television]

Martha Rodgers : Is that Charlie Reynolds? Turn that up.

Reporter : [on tv]  Police are currently investigating. Reynolds was an actor, best known as the star of the '90s comedy, "2 Cool for School", where he played lovable nerd, Dewey Hancock.

    [news report continues in background]

Martha Rodgers : Oh, how awful. I did a guest spot on that show.

Richard Castle : It was a simpler time, when Dewey's catchphrase, "Hubba-hubba," passed as sparkling dialogue.

Reporter : [on tv]  In a bizarre twist, the body was found hanging from the hook of a construction crane.

    Martha Rodgers : Oh, gruesome.

Richard Castle : Yes... If by "gruesome," you mean "awesome." Look!

    [points to tv]

Richard Castle : That's Esposito and Ryan. This is *exactly* what I need.

    [dials phone]

Richard Castle : Former child star... *literally* getting the hook... Hoisted on his own petard. Hung out to dry.

    [chuckles]

Martha Rodgers : Okay, I get it.

[on the television screen, Esposito glances at his phone and ignores the call]

Richard Castle : Did you see that? He just declined my call.

Martha Rodgers : Looks like Charlie isn't the only one hung out to dry.

  • [the AG's office has taken over the murder investigation]

Kate Beckett : What are you doing here?

Richard Castle : [chuckling]  Me? What am I doing? What are you doing here? Why didn't you tell me you were coming to town?

Kate Beckett : I was gonna surprise you.

    Richard Castle : Well done!

  • Hank Harper : Charlie was a great kid, a real pro. Working with him reminded me of the pictures I did with Pacino.

Richard Castle : You worked with Al Pacino?

Hank Harper : Barry Pacino. No relation. Every bit as talented. And taller.

Richard Castle : If you have such a high opinion of Charlie, how come you're already replacing him?

Hank Harper : Look, you gotta understand, there's a lot of money at stake here. The show must go on.

Richard Castle : Ah! I've been there. My book, "Naked Heat", got made into a movie a few years back.

Hank Harper : Didn't that go straight to DVD?

Richard Castle : There were script issues. And... casting issues and directing issues.

  • Richard Castle : Playing the anonymous source card? I mean, that is pure genius. It... it actually makes me love you more.

Kate Beckett : Well, she's filing for asylum, and the State Department's gonna help relocate her. So, hopefully, that'll keep her safe.

Richard Castle : Yeah, but even working for the feds, you... you found the ultimate way to honor the victim. Charlie died trying to get Svetlana away from her dangerous family. You completed his mission.

Kate Beckett : Yeah, but you would've done the same thing, Castle.

Richard Castle : Yes. Yes, and I would love me more for doing it, too.

  • Richard Castle : We really have to talk about something.

    Kate Beckett : Okay.

Richard Castle : We've been doing this... long distance thing for months, and, uh... and, honey, I mean, we never see each other. And... when we do, it's a... it's a day here, it's a, uh, weekend there, and... let's face it, it's not... working.

Kate Beckett : [sighs]  I-I know, Castle, but I don't... I don't know how to fix this.

    Richard Castle : I do.

    [holds up a key]

Kate Beckett : Wh- What is that?

Richard Castle : That's a key... to... our... D.C. apartment... I mean, the truth is, I can... I can write from anywhere. So I found a place with a little home office.

[Kate is touched, but lost for words]

Richard Castle : Listen, if you don't like it when you see it, we can always...

Kate Beckett : No! I don't need to see it.

    [takes key]

Kate Beckett : I love this!

    [kisses him]

  • [deleted scene]

Richard Castle : Captain Gates, I just want to say I appreciate what you did for me back there.

Captain Victoria Gates : I did not do it for you, Mr. Castle. I just don't care for Agent McCord running roughshod in my precinct.

Richard Castle : Well, then, thank you for being more upset with her than you are with me.

Captain Victoria Gates : The two of you are running neck and neck. Don't push it.

    Richard Castle : Right.

  • Richard Castle : [seeing the mess on Beckett's old desk]  Whoa. What happened to Beckett's desk?

    Javier Esposito : That's Sully's desk now.

  • Richard Castle : So listen, I'm, uh, I'm sorry about that whole bribe thing. I should have known you were incorruptible.

Kate Beckett : Yeah, I wouldn't say that.

Richard Castle : Oh. Well, then allow me to try and corrupt you a little later at my place, where we can finally have some alone time. And by "alone time", I mean you and me and my mother and Alexis and... Pi.

Kate Beckett : That... That sounds... crowded.

    Richard Castle : Yeah.

Kate Beckett : You know what? Why don't you just give me a call after you guys have solved the case?

Richard Castle : Well, didn't you hear McCord? The case is wrapped.

[Beckett hands Castle a flash drive]

    Kate Beckett : Is it?

[cut to Beckett and McCord leaving]

Kevin Ryan : This whole "greater good" thing blows. Charlie died serving his country. He deserves justice.

Javier Esposito : What happened to Beckett? She used to understand that.

Richard Castle : [approaching with flash drive]  I think she still does.

  • [trying to get a clue about the case from Beckett]

Richard Castle : Okay, she's coming. Just... nod once if it's about the Russians, twice if it's about something else.

    [Beckett nods twice]

Richard Castle : Twice. About something else.

    [Beckett nods again]

Richard Castle : Three times. What does... What does- What does that mean? What does- how can- I don't know what that means.

Rachel McCord : [poking her head into the room]  Beckett, we got a lead. Let's go.

Kate Beckett : See you, Castle.

Richard Castle : What does the... what does three nods mean?

  • [Ryan searches the victim and finds a card with numbers on it]

Kevin Ryan : Hmm. I wonder what this means. Nine digits.

Richard Castle : Well, given he was pushed off a roof and landed on a hook, I'm saying that is *not* his lucky number.

  • Richard Castle : It's "Romeo and Juliet". With a nerdy Romeo.

Javier Esposito : And a smoking hot Russian Juliet.
