This comedy series is centred on Kosaku Hata; a school boy at an agricultural college. He has a crush on pop-idol Yuka Kusakabe, so much so that he even ends her vegetables (anonymously). He is devastated when she announces that she is retiring then shocked to learn that she has enrolled at the same school under the name Ringo Kinoshita! They get on well which makes things a bit difficult for his friend Minori Nakazawa, she has known him since they were children and imagined they would marry one day. One might now expect a typical harem show, especially when more female characters are introduced but the potential for romance is not a huge part of the story. Over the course of the series we see these three, and friend Kei Kamatori get in various situations; many are to do with agriculture but there are also things like the planned trip to the beach which is spoilt by a typhoon.
If you are expecting another 'Silver Spoon' just because this series is also set in an agricultural college you are likely to be disappointed; this is all about the comedy. Obviously comedy is fairly subjective but I really enjoyed this; the main cast are likeable and very funny and the supporting characters provide plenty of laughs as well. The story isn't the strongest; I'm surprised how little was made of Ringo being an idol before her arrival... the opening episode made it seem like a very important detail. Some may find the humour a bit lacking in subtlety and while there in no nudity there is a fair amount of fan service with most of the female characters being fairly buxom. The ending is perhaps a little disappointing; I'd have liked something a bit more definitive, it wasn't bad enough to spoil the series at least. The animation is good with fine character designs; being set in rural Japan there are also lots of stunning back grounds. Overall I'd say I really enjoyed series and would recommend it to those wanting an undemanding story and some good laughs.
