Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • An elderly man is thrown down a flight of stairs
  • Multiple but mild battle sequences are spread across this 4-part anime, as typical in the Pokemon anime franchise.
  • In episode 2, a member of Team Rocket pushes a man down the stairs at the Pokemon Tower. At least in the Japanese version of this episode, there are some mild references to death of Pokemon, including the fact Marowak/Garagara has been killed.
  • In one scene in episode 3, there is a still shot in which a man can briefly be seen from a long distance holding a scalpel, making it implied he has been forced by Team Rocket to use it against a Pokemon, in relation to the research about a Master Ball.

Profanity

  • At least in the Japanese version of episode 2, "bastard" is said once. Both in the English and the Japanese dub, "snot-nosed brat" is mentioned by a Team Rocket member, while in the Japanese dub "that damn brat" is uttered after a Pokemon battle between Red and Team Rocket.
  • In episode 3, the Boss of Team Rocket calls Red a "brat" three times, and "fool" once, all in the Japanese version.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • People morn over their dead Pokémon in a cemetery
  • The Pokemon battle sequences are mostly mild, so no adults should worry about showing this to their children.
  • In episode 2, Cubone/Karakara has lost his mother Marowak/Garagara, who is said to have been killed in the Japanese version, because of Team Rocket. This may be kinda sad for some children.
  • Also in episode 2, characters go into Pokemon Tower, which is said to have been haunted by some real ghosts. Some scenes may be a little bit scary for some younger children.
  • In episode 3, Team Rocket has hijacked a company, and appears to be kinda cruel as the team forces some scientists to finish a Master Ball.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • In episode 4, Green is shown to have been pretty injured due to a battle with a new but strong Pokemon species he hadn't met before.

Profanity

  • In episode 4, Professor Oak/Yukinari Oukido calls Green a "bakana", or simply a "foolish boy" if English dub is viewed. Also during a scene set in the Pokemon Hall of Fame, the professor calls Red something like "dummy" or "silly" in the Japanese version, instead of "oh, come on now"...
  • During a battle with Mewtwo, Red utters something like "darn" in the Japanese version.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In Episode 4, Reina sounds like she woke up from a nightmare when she tells Mr. Fuji that Red is going to Cerulean Cave. During this scene, she is visibly alarmed. However, Mr. Fuji is able to calm her down.
