Ineffective
voyou-703-6553509 April 2015
The IMDb plot section announces: "They soon realize that their fugitive [...] is much more than she lets on." We do as well. We realise who she is in the first minutes. From there, we expect fun... that never comes because the story decides that the bounty hunters will remain ignorant. So, instead of what we want, we get dull images, boring gunfights in the dark.

Of course the bad guys always miss, with either assault rifles or rocket launchers, while the average guys (who hunt people for money, so no, I can't call them good guys) are as good at bullseye as they are at bullshit. Realising their inferiority at handling heavy weapons, the professional killers later opt for much better tactics, going one by one and hand-to-hand against the gun-wielding hero, with the results that you would expect. The Night Crew is one of those movies.

The action scenes do not make up for their inanity, in either tension, humour or spectacle. They are simply bad. As for Danny Trejo, don't expect to see much of him. He is there sporadically, and only for talks.

B-Action with a twist
TdSmth520 November 2016
A girl is on the run from someone or something. The bad guys catch up with her but just at that moment another group appears and rescues her.

This group is made up of bounty-hunters and grabbing her is their job. The main guy is Wade, his sidekick is Rose and there are two more guys.

This girl though is something else, she's not appreciative at all, doesn't have anything to say. At some point she escapes from these guys. In the meantime we learn that her captor is the big bad drug mobster around: Danny Trejo, who else. He's into young girls and wants to girl back at all costs.

The girl hides in some abandoned motel. Our bounty-hunters find her and decide to wait for Trejo's gang to show up. Now we learn that this girl does have something special. Somehow she knows stuff about our guys that she couldn't have known. At this point we get to hear all the relationship gossip among the group for some reason until the bad guys show up and the shootout ensues. Eventually we learn what's going on with the girl and it's a neat twist.

The Night Crew is a B-action movie that aspires to be a bit more than just that, but doesn't really succeed. Casting is strong with Goss, Trejo, Faulhaber. Sloan does a great job but his character doesn't get much camera-time unfortunately. The action is decent, direction is good, the writing could be better. The movie looks good, too. The problem is that there isn't really much of a central character to root for and for no good reason they decided to film the main part of this movie at night, which doesn't work all that well with action movies. The character of the girl, instead of being fascinating is instead somewhat annoying. I did appreciate the sexual tension between her and Rose though. Overall, the concept is pretty good but the script and execution needed more work.

She knows things
nogodnomasters21 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The story centers around Mae (Chasty Ballesteros) who is wanted by Aguilar (Danny Trejo) the biggest Mexican cartel leader and a group of four American bounty hunters lead by Wade (Luke Goss). They need the bounty because the Californian Armenians are leaning on a guy in a wheel chair (Anthony J. Rickert-Epstein) in the world's worst subplot. Mae knows Aguilar's operation. He can't afford to have her on the loose. Mae is hiding in a Tijuana strip joint, as we see her butt-polishing a pole on stage. Note to self: When bad guys are looking for you, don't hide on stage in a strip joint.

There is a bit of a cat and mouse game going on. There is some inner tension within the crew because a woman (Luciana Faulhaber) is part of the bounty hunters filled with testosterone. Then about half way into the film it drops subtle hints that Mae is not your ordinary killer trained Asian girl living with an ugly Cartel leader in Mexico. This created a mystery, which was good, because the drama and dialogue left much to be desired like: "Tough chicks dig me." The action consisted mostly of gun play, except for that one guy who brought a knife to the gun fight. Most likely a prop they had lying around.

The film leaves itself for a sequel (TV pilot?) that promises to be better than this under developed tale, perhaps filling in some plot points.

Guide: F-bomb. Nudity. Forced Groping.

Pitiful DTV
wanama5 July 2015
Danny Trejo who is on the front cover is doing a cameo only. A bunch of bounty hunters crossed the Mexican border to bring back a mysterious girl who is going to testify against some cartel kingpin. We don't really care actually. It's poorly directed. They are supposed to be special ops team and they act like a bunch of amateurs during the siege in the motel. They scream "no" each time one of them is hit by a bullet. So cliché.

The dialogs are horrible. "Promise me you will keep on going if I am going down". Totally forgettable.

I don't even know if I can write 10 lines for this total garbage.

Poorly made and going through the motions
Leofwine_draca9 June 2016
THE NIGHT CREW had promise, with an action-focused narrative utilising America's war on drugs as a backdrop, and a seasoned cast of B-movie faces who would no doubt do their best with the material at hand. Sadly, this turns out to be a film which hinges on the quality of the execution, and it just isn't that great.

The narrative is of the typical siege scenario, although it's cheaply-handled and plenty of it takes place at night to hide the paucity of the budget. The cinematography is poor and makes the film look cheap throughout, and the special effects of the shoot-outs and the like are merely ordinary. What's missing is suspense, something to keep you hooked to the unfolding action.

The cast is headlined by Luke Goss (HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY) as the leader of the heroic bounty hunters. Goss is all right, but he has done better in the past, and he seems to be going through the motions here like the rest of the cast members. Reliable B-movie star Bokeem Woodbine is better as the gun-toting Crenshaw. Danny Trejo has an extended cameo, and there are more minor roles for players like Don Swayze and Jason Mewes. Chasty Ballesteros and Luciana Faulhaber are the women of the piece and both particularly poor in the acting stakes. As for the extra, horror-themed sub-plot, that seems to be tacked on to the movie as it bears no influence on the narrative whatsoever.

functional B-movie start
SnoopyStyle9 September 2017
Bounty hunters Wade (Luke Goss), Crenshaw (Bokeem Woodbine), Rose (Luciana Faulhaber), and Ronnie (Paul Sloan) are hired to go into Mexico to rescue Mae (Chasty Ballesteros). They are transporting the Chinese girl back to the States when she runs off. Cartel king Aguilar (Danny Trejo) wants her back alive.

The first half is a functional action B-movie. Danny Trejo is the obvious draw but he only has a supporting role. It's got the desert setting and what seems like a simple premise. Then it starts adding stuff and the movie struggles. It should have been so easy. It becomes muddled and bland. At some point, I stop caring.

It has all been done and seen before...
paul_haakonsen4 October 2022
Well, I can't exactly claim that I was harboring any great expectations to the 2015 action thriller "The Night Crew", but I still opted to watch it on the account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen.

And yeah, I will say that the synopsis did sound interesting enough to catch my attention.

However, writers Paul Sloan and Christian Sesma only managed to put together a somewhat bland and mediocre movie here. The storyline is straight forward and very easy to follow, I will give them that much. But it is so simplistic that there almost is no plot really. So you can essentially start the movie, watch for a bit, then leave and come back later and still be up to speed with the events in the movie.

There are some familiar faces on the cast list, with the likes of Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, Bokeem Woodbine, Jason Mewes, Christine Nguyen and Don Swayze. The acting in the movie was actually fair enough, and you know what you get from these particular actors and actresses.

Visually then "The Night Crew" was adequate. I mean, it is not a movie that makes use of a lot of special effects, so you're not going to find yourself in for an amazing display of special effects. However, whatever effects were used actually served the movie well enough.

All in all, then director Christian Sesma put together a movie that was watchable enough for what it was, though you shouldn't expect a grand cinematic experience here. And while I did managed to sit through all 92 minutes it ran for, I only found myself semi-entertained. This is, however, not a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.

My rating of "The Night Crew" lands on a four out of ten stars.

Warning: Spoilers
Based on scores 1 to 10'

Costumes *****...excellent use of those darn scarfs grandma sends you for xmas mixed in with last year's Halloween masks. Nudity O stars....no nudity and it sure would have helped. Some sweaty cleavage though. Soundtrack' 6 stars. perhaps the highlight of the film. Marksmanship by the bad guys: ! star....just tell me how when you outnumber the good guys about 40 to one and are using automatic weapons it takes the final moments of the film to hit a target. Plot 3 stars.....surprise surprise surprise ending unless you figured it out the first moments into the film. Dialogue 2 stars....no poetry here Special effects 2 stars...unless you have some sort of kinky thing about seeing what once must have been a motel shot up a bit.

Nice B action flick with a welcome twist
85122230 August 2015
Greetings from Lithuania.

"The Night Crew" (2015) is enjoyable low budget action flick with some nice twist. It's nothing original or exciting, but it is very watchable and can be even enjoyable, if you will lower your expectations first. The plot is simple but there is one nice bloody twist which i won't spoil. There are some gory scenes and it's kinda bloody picture, but it's not to bloody or disgusting. Acting was OK, nothing special although i liked performance by Chasty Ballesteros - she looks sexy and she gave probably the best performance in this movie - so it's a double win for viewer :)

Overall, "The Night Crew" (or better known as a "Blackwater") is a B action flick with some intriguing twist. If you skip it, you won't going to regret it or loose anything, but it worth a look on a boring evening.

Cool Action Flick
shawntira12 April 2015
As far as indie action movies go, this one is definitely worth the time. The plot revolves around a team of bounty hunters protecting their captive from a group of border runners out to retrieve their fugitive for their boss, played by Danny Trejo

If you like guns, explosions, and eye candy to boot, this movie has plenty to offer from beginning to end. There are movies that seem like the action needlessly fades for some uninteresting subplot, but The Night Crew is not one of them. Once the bullets start flying, they only let up to reload for the next sequence.

Luke Goss gives a fine performance in his role as Wade, the leader of the fearless team of bounty hunters. As always, he's as bad-ass as ever, with nary a smile for the audience...and thumbs up go out to the rest of his crew as well, played by Paul Sloan, Bokeem Woodbine, and Luciana Faulhaber.

The Night Crew is Director Christian Sesma's best work to date. The action's intense, the pacing's good, and the scenes were beautifully shot. Overall, well worth the time.

Great action flick with a decent twist
bmprofessor874 April 2015
I mean it's another one of Danny Trejo's more indie like movies similar to Machete but if your into action flicks this one is definitely worth giving a watch. The ending has a serious twist that you may or may not see coming (I didn't). The acting isn't the most spectacular, but c'mon it's a low budget action movie and you get what you pay for.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, if you like the Machete series then I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this. The plot revolves around a women connected to some big time cartel boss whom bounty hunters quasi-kidnap to take across the border for their bounty. Things don't necessarily go as planned and they maybe don't know enough about their bounty and or mission beforehand to accurately assess the situation and prepare accordingly. That's pretty much all you'll need to know, from there on its non stop firefights and fisticuffs with a little twist at the end.

One for the ages
stamboat9 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Man, I can't believe how this movie had the budget of 3 million pax. Such garbage. SPOILER ALERT: Danny Trejo is a Besieged Farmland vampire. It makes no sense. The soundtrack of this movie would be decent if it wasn't ripped out of the orchestral backing from Tony Anderson's - The Power of Love. I do give credit where it is due however; Jason Mewes gives a resounding performance as Officer know nothing. On a larger and far more disastrous note, you hardly see the bad guys; as the majority of this films budget went toward Danny Trejo's blood transfusions.

General Concensus:

Make sure you watch this on a first date with somebody. It will guarantee your alpha status as "Lord of the Movies".

Asinine parts of other action movies strapped into one tedious showing.
quincytheodore16 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
You have seen this before, almost with the same exact cast and premise. A few famous action names or faces on the poster, which actually are just in the movie briefly, Luke Goss assembling rag tag group of rowdy misfits trapped in a predicament, and even with the similar lackluster action choreography. However, it has a new twist of "From Dusk Till Dawn" which audience will see from miles away and in inferior quality.

The story follows Wade, not Wilson, (Luke Goss) as he bunkers down on a motel while his bounty, a strange woman attracts attention from unsavory bunch. There's barely any acting involved here as the movie opts for more light action style. Granted, this mindless spree fits theme better than actually trying to pull a dramatic suspense, there's also some attempts in humor and thriller that sadly miss the mark more often than not.

It moves randomly between slow scenes to tease its supposedly shocking plot twist, but sometimes sporadically rushed into action. None of which feels as they are executed nearly, the build-up consists of usual macho gung ho, which is tiredly used in almost every other Luke Goss' movies, while the action part is not sufficiently choreographed nor does it have fast pace combat.

In fact there are times where people would run off the cover during hail of bullets and try to sucker punch the other guy. It's amazingly bad how this silly antic still persists, even in low budget flick. Fans of the genre might have a bit of fun with the carnage, yet it's fleeting and not exactly a more compelling version from "From Dusk Till Dawn", which it clearly tries to imitate.

It's an average action movie that tries to siphon any appeal from better spectacle, and only ends up in overused gimmicks.

Warning: Spoilers
Super spoilers ahead

I mean where do I begin? The premise is this stripper is a witness to a drug lords secrets and can testify in court getting him locked up. Well that premise went out the window 10 minutes into the film. Instead it turned into a cheap hostage rescue film. I could get past the terrible dialogue, shaking camera, and bad acting, but I couldn't get over the music. Why did this action film have the cheesiest soap opera romance tracks every time someone died? And suddenly this became a love story.

And how many times was final guy going to fall only to get back up and kill another dozen people? Like, is this for real? And the ending. My god the ending. Not only did the mercenary chick not seem to care too much she lost the baby, but then decides to go vamp? And let's make final guy a vamp too? This was worse than season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

The Night Crew More Like The Night Ruined
justfreshh29 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What on earth was this? The plot at the end was ridiculous.

So the girl they were protecting turns out to be a vampire and can heal people / bring people back to life when they're on the verge of death or are literally dead, but only decides to save 2 of the 4 people that were trying to protect her?

Once she's saved those 2 why do neither of them ask her why she didn't save their friends?

Ridiculous movie with a lot of unanswered questions, would avoid watching at all costs.

Luke Goss deserves better.

Very average
Hoogley_Bonnett_Tapper6919 November 2019
Firstly the cast in the night shift were terrible, it's like they have never worked before, an untrained monkey could do a better job. Not enough nudity for me, I mean there was lots but I still would have liked more from the male leads. The two Michaels kept disappearing together and wouldn't include me enough, and I only got the left overs. The shower scene was a lot of fun though and the highlight for me. Toby came to watch and got real mad, I like it when he's mad hehe

The Not Crew
tmccull522 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where to begin, where to begin? Hmmmm.

Well, let's start with the fact that this movie is unrelenting predictable. If it takes you more than five minutes to figure out the "secret" that the Mae character is a vampire, you should immediately enroll in remedial courses across the board.

We have the "heroic" mercenaries tasked with securing Mae and keeping her out of cartel hands. The character Ronnie is so smart that he's puffing away on a cigarette while he's pumping gas. The leader is the mercs isn't much brighter, as he stands right next to Ronnie while this is going on.

Did you notice all of the other bad reviews posted here for this movie?

Believe them. They're right.

A FUN AT TIMES B-MOVIE
lukem-5276017 June 2019
This little low budget flick was a surprise,it was action packed with a gritty look & bursts of brutal violence & a cool little team of Bounty hunters against the Mexican Cartel stoty.

The first thing that grabbed my attention with this film was how good it's directed,it's made really well & looks like most bigger budget cinema films such as Schwarzenegger's Sabotage or Stallone's Expendables films, this tiny budget movie looks like those types in how it's filmed & put on screen. The team of good guy bounty hunters are a cool bunch made up of the tough team leader played by B-movie action star Luke Goss who has made loads of these types of straight to dvd action films but he's actually good,i mean he's no Statham or van damme but he's still pretty cool & we have another cool guy who has been in tons of movies & that's Bokeem Woodbine, he's a cool dude on Luke's team & another ripped-up guy who I've never seen before & a kick-ass very tough lady who i don't know but she's very good in her role.

This is a cool little gem because it's so unpredictable,i could not work out what was gonna happen next or who would survive!!! A big thumbs up for how well it keeps you guessing & on the edge of the seat lol it gets very intense at times.

There's also a nice mystery mixed in with the action crime story of this & that's all to do with the Cult B-movie legend Danny Trejo who is the leader of the cartel & a lady who is on the run from him called mae who is the bounty hunters mission to get her accross the border.

This action Thriller is very well made & way above other straight to dvd films with it's direction,Acting, suspense & excitement!!! It's a crime siege Thriller with a dark creepy mystery mixed into all the Action, easy watching fun.

Total waste of film! Poor acting, even worse screenplay. Ultra violent, piss poor ripoff of Mad Max and a few other movies! I kinda like Danny Trejo, but of course he's always typecast as a badass because of his looks.

The woman who plays the "Chinese" girl is not remotely Asian!

Night Crew is mixed with John Carpenter Vampires and From Dusk Till Dawn
nikola1710 October 2015
This is for fans like Luke Goss and Danny Trejo vampire since From Dusk Till Dawn Series another version of John Carpenter Vampires style but this is a low budget different way of movie. this had a lot of great cast in film these bounty hunters great characters i loved were it was filmed where it set and style with vampires mixed action like every movie not much of horror movie more of action very fast Paced, well made ending twist something you might not expect. The plot is simple but there is one nice bloody twist which i won't spoil i don't get why this movie got 4.1 but i am person who really loved it so much actors were good why reminds me mix of John Carpenter's Vampires and From Dusk Till Dawn this movie is more of Survival film like From Dusk Till Dawn in the in different way of film in desert motel against a horde of savage border runners Cartel's.

Plot: Mae (Chasty Ballesteros)is on the run in Mexico from cartel boss Eduardo Aguilar (Danny Trejo) bounty hunters got Mae was the Night crew four hard-up bounty hunters led by Wade (Luke Goss) (Bokeem Woodbine)Crenshaw, (Paul Sloan )Ronnie and tough and pretty Brazilian Girl Rose (Luciana Faulhaber) were night crew traveled to Mexico Border just to product Mae from drug runners. soon later until half way it gets you into part of movie where you don't know what's going to happen with They soon realize that their fugitive, a mysterious Chinese woman. But just as his men track her down bit of mystery that crew never knew who she is Night Crew was in danger buy Chupa (Kaleti Williams)and his savage border Runners Eduardo Aguilar wants Mae Alive he wants the rest of crew dead. Crew they have her so then crew they have no choice they have to survive the night at motel. Action scenes were Very good lots of shooting, fighting lot's of Explosions and some of action scenes were not fake at all it's all completed this is not much of B Class movie it's more just low budget Action Horror movie what do you Expect to be hey I wish this was a franchise with better budget and little bit better writing but ending is something you won't expect it's a twist it's bloody not bloody as from dusk till dawn or anything like Robert Rodriguez film it's on it's own. the acting is good not great performances but i like characters that's what i loved about Luke Gross played movie with Danny Trejo in Death Race 2 (2011) Death Race 3 Inferno (2013) witch i loved playing together in Night Crew for 3rd time i liked Luke Gross as lead i had no problems with Luke Gross at all little bit like Jason Statham if it was a bigger budget movie, Danny Trejo playing Cartel Vampire Boss like From Dusk Till Dawn Carlos was in it but not a lot didn't do much in film but he was in some of scenes. ending was something you might not expect but it's still great action movie 10.10 i want to own this movie on blu ray

Nonsensical
vmatsmith-1135616 April 2024
If you have to put a strip club scene in the movie in the first 5 minutes of your movie, then you shouldn't bother making it in the first place. The plot is pretty bad. They make the girl out to be some bad ass but really it's just plot armor. I recommend you save yourself the time and don't watch this movie. It's definitely not family friendly. Lots of cussing, nudity and violence. Plus if you have half a brain cell, you're gonna chew through the plot holes real quick. You're better off reading the plot on Wikipedia or watching a recap on YouTube. The entertainment value would be higher. Most movies with Danny Trejo are kind of garbage though. Nothing personal against the guy.

Soo bad, why am I wasting my time
amichnea17 September 2020
I am writing this whilst watching the film. I saw some of the positive reviews and thought, hey Bloodshot got bad reviews but it was still a fun film. Brains OFF and go for an action ride. But boy this was just bad. And what is with the constant close up camera shots, just give us some distance so we can see everyone better and not just their pores.

Please don't waste your time as I am wasting mine right now:( with 20 minutes to go. Not sure what the plot twist is.

The Night Stew
osloj17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
*** This review may contain spoilers ***

*Plot and ending analyzed*

Turned it off after ten minutes of ridiculousness. Absolutely dumb. The introduction had some awful song and a couple of loser bad guys acting like thugs. They go into a strip club with the intention of grabbing one of the dancers. Apparently some guy in the audience touched her behind and she cracked his hand or something. Really unbelievable junk.

Then the couple of loser bad guys acting like thugs chase her and she busts one of the thug's face and runs off. Another movie where women are super fighters. She staggers off and runs away.

Th director and cinematographer also shake the camera so much that it gets annoying. And they hold each scene shot for two seconds so you get dizzy.

And I said enough is enough. And the actor character Danny Trejo is also in this, so you know it will be even more worthless.
