Prim's interesting mini-biography and focusing a twisted conspiracy for his assassination
ma-cortes25 October 2017
Historic biopic about general Prim (December 1814 – 30 December 1870) , he was a Spanish military and statesman who was briefly Prime Minister of Spain until his assassination , as this flick deals with the complex plot to murder Prim . The action takes place after the end of the Gloriosa revolution in 1868 and finishes with the proclamation of the king Amadeo I of Saboya . After the Spanish revolution deposed Isabella II, the new Cortes decided to reinstate the monarchy under a new dynasty . The Duke of Aosta was elected King as Amadeus on 16 November 1870 . The election of the new King coincided with the assassination of General Prim and General Marqués De Los Castillejos , his main backer . After that, Amadeo had to deal with difficult situations , with unstable Spanish politics, republican conspiracies , Carlist uprisings, separatism in Cuba, same-party disputes, fugitive governments and assassination attempts. With the possibility of reigning without popular support, Amadeus issued an order against the artillery corps and then immediately abdicated from the Spanish throne on 11 February 1873 . At ten o'clock that same night , Spain was proclaimed a republic, at which time Amadeo made an appearance before the Cortes, proclaiming the Spanish people ungovernable . Later on , the first Spanish Republic was proclaimed . It lasted less than two years, and in November 1874 Alfonso XII , the son of Isabella II , was proclaimed King, with Antonio Cánovas del Castillo, Spanish intermittent prime minister from 1873 until his assassination in 1897 , briefly serving as regent . Here is developed a thriller starred by Benito Perez Gáldos (Javier Godino) , while writing his first novel : ¨Fontana De Oro¨ , as he investigates the initial conspiracy and subsequent assassination of the popular general Prim (Francesc Orella) , and he finds out strange consequences . As Galdos learns a political conspiracy in which becomes involved known politicians as Serrano (Simón Andreu) , Solis (Pedro Casablanc) , Topete , authorities : Pastor (Daniel Grao) and Borbones , Duke Montpensier (Javivi) , candidate to Crown , among others .

This is a suspenseful TV movie plenty of intrigue , thrills , double-crosses , dealing with a political conspiracy to kill the Prime Minister . This is a highly intriguing and cerebral movie , made in thriller style , filled with plot twists , including the expected denouement in its final part . The extreme intrigue and tension are extended from start to finish . The original as well entertaining premise about killing preparation is overspread across the movie adding some brief conventional pitfalls . Cast and support cast are full of familiar faces and notorious Spanish secondaries giving good performances as Víctor Clavijo as Paúl y Angulo , Daniel Grao as Pastor , Enrique Villén as Moya , Manolo Solo as González-Nandín , Simón Andreu as Serrano , Secun de la Rosa as Gaspar Ruiz and Luis Bermejo as Rojo Arias .

The motion picture was well directed by Miguel Bardem who belongs a notorious actors family , as is son of director Juan Antonio Bardem , aunt is Pilar Bardem ,cousin of Carlos Bardem , Mónica Bardem and Javier Bardem . He has written/directed some entertaining films as comedy as ¨Twelfth night¨ , ¨Mas amor Que Frenesi¨ , ¨Mortadelo and Filemon , mission : save the planet¨ , suspense as ¨The ugliest girl in the world¨ and ¨Incautos¨ at his best and results to be his most successful picture .

This historic movie offers an ample description about this important figure of the Spanish story . The biographic deeds are the followings : On Prim's return to Spain he joined the opposition, heading Pronunciamentos in Catalonia against generals Narváez and O'Donnell. All his attempts failed until the death of Narváez in April 1868, after which Queen Isabella fell more and more under the influence of the Jesuits, and became increasingly tyrannical, until at last even Serrano was exiled. In September 1868 General Serrano and General Prim returned, and Brigadier Topete, commanding the fleet, raised the standard of revolt at Cádiz. In July 1869 General Serrano was elected regent, and Prim became president of the council and was made a marshal. On 6 November 1870 Amadeo, Duke of Aosta, was elected king of Spain, but General Prim, on leaving the chamber of the Cortes on 28 December, was shot by unknown assassins and died two days later. The Cortes took his children as wards of the country; three days afterwards King Amadeo I swore in the presence of the corpse to observe the new Spanish constitution . This is due to the fact that Prim had searched all the European courts of the time trying to find a monarch who was not opposed to being democratically elected. He is quoted for saying that "looking for a democratic monarch in Europe is like trying to find an atheist in heaven". After France had rejected the almost elected Leopold of Hohenzollern because of their fear that Prussia might thereby become more powerful, Amadeo of Savoy was the most fitting that consented , as there took place the 1870's French/German war . Then , Prim was assassinated and Amadeo was crowned .
