The Last Ship: Lockdown
PartialMovieViewer30 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
What kind of horror is the crew stumbling into this week? Mad Dr Scott is tossing monkey carcasses over the side – hoping not to be seen – but she is spotted by 'the watch.' Uh – oh. Once she is detected, rumors fly and the crew assumes the worst. Oh woe-is-me, these perpetrations of simian slaughter hints at some kind of inception of a more dastardly and evil plot. Is she bad or is she good? Will she stay or will she go? I don't know. Will 'sweepers' be replaced by 'bleeders'? Will the mess decks replace ham sandwiches with hand sandwiches? Or is this all in the enlisted-crew's heads? You will just have to watch to find out. One thing is for sure, on-board the Nathan James, it is time for the CO to step up and come clean. And he does. Captain Chandler finally musters all important crew members on the missile deck (leaving only red-shirts to drive the boat) and spills his guts. This action ends up making me happy, making the crew happy and making the fish happy. Sadly…the dead monkeys are not happy – well – you see – they happen to be dead and can't be happy. Another good show sets sail and surprisingly, did not need to blow anything up to get my high marks. Improvements are everywhere on this show.

Not my monkeys, not my circus
tenshi_ippikiookami28 November 2016
We have got the monkeys, we are back in the ship, the vaccine trials may start.

Finally, with this sixth episode, "The Last Ship" offers some clear focus and a 'paranoia' oriented episode. Till now, between meeting all the bad guys still alive in the world (good for the viewers, as they can practice languages), and going around we haven't had a proper episode that centers on fear and distrust. In this episode, we get that.

Doctor Scott is doing what she is supposed to do: trying to find a vaccine. But she is having more problems than expected. Chandler, Jeter and Slattery have doubts about what they should tell the rest of the crew. Is it better to keep them in the dark or just tell them everything?

In this episode we get the eternal topics: trust, and community. There are not many people in the ship, but all are different and their status has changed since the virus started creating havoc. But they have been behaving as before without really checking if it was the right thing to do. The show does a good job to show how trust may be created or destroyed, and how to build a community, where everyone may have a different role, but respect and responsibility exist.

"The Last Ship" is still on shaky ground, but this episode is a step in the right direction.

More Stereotypes Emerging
Xine9g912 October 2021
I am not sure why I continue watching this irritating show. Perhaps it's global pandemic we are currently living with its spectre of another, infinitely worse, one. Perhaps it's the hope that it will move on to more developed character depth and plot sophistication.

It's not there yet. In this episode, we see the usual issues with disease shows: crew disaffection, the trouble maker who stirs it up for his own selfish reasons, distrust of the laboratory experiment and leadership uncertainty about how much to share.

And, the most irritating of the irritating continues to be an opinionated, righteous scientist standing as the brave resilient, individual, quest for truth.

In the end, though, the nobility of true leaders, along with some scarcely credible use of the lab and lots of corny music, saves the day, as we might expect.

Some of the other crew members are beginning to become more interesting. Still waiting, but maybe it will be develop.
