Industrial Cartoon
This is an industrial cartoon that UPA produced for the Timkins Ball Bearings Company to advertise their roller bearings for freight cars. Stan Freberg voices Big Tim, the locomotive, whose enemy is Mr Friction, a green, stogie-smoking thug who slows down the train and burns out the wheels, but can do nothing against roller bearings, which require only 4% of the power to pull the same load.
It's told in lively story form while still driving home its point, with lots of the loose, impressionistic animation style typical of UPA. Although the direction is uncredited, much of the animation is by Robert Cannon.
Depending on your taste, you may like this film. My preference in industrial films is for ones that are more about entertainment or education, and less about pushing whatever product they are shilling. This one, despite its technical excellence, is a bit too pushy for my taste.
