- A veteran Bounty Hunter is forced to rely on a best friend and former partner when the apprehension of a high-profile fugitive takes an unexpected turn.
- Miles Bentley, a veteran bounty hunter with a hundred-percent success rate on felony-flee contracts, finds himself at the mercy of gun-toting thugs when he and his cohorts' fugitive transport van is suspiciously hijacked, freeing Issam Hadded. Can Miles find Issam before his boss is court-ordered to surrender two million dollars -- or will he disappear behind a cloud of clues that point to an inside job?
- It begins with bounty hunters MILES BENTLEY, RUSTY CONNER, and BILLY ROSEWOOD arriving at a run-down hotel in Ogden, Utah, to apprehend ISSAM HADDED (aka THE MECHANIC), who fled California after being brought up on embezzlement charges. What appeared to be a routine apprehension begins looking too easy when Issam asks, "what took so long?" after Miles and Rusty bust through the door. But it's the exchange between Rusty and Issam which triggers a chain of concerns that causes Miles' faith in Rusty to whither. And though he keeps a cool head, Miles' mind is shrouded by doubt as he takes Issam into custody.
Ransacked from a sleepless two-day journey, ridding shotgun, caving to exhaustion he falls asleep. Matters are made worse when he wakes up and notices Rusty abandoned course and is on his phone. When Miles asks what he's doing, Rusty snaps, telling him to go back to sleep. But when the three find themselves face-down and at gunpoint at a remote gas station off Route 66, Miles' fears are realized, as he's left to watch Issam disappears behind a cloud of clues, when his lover CHUNHUA LU shoots Billy.
Miles tests Daniel's patience as the story lingers. But when Miles points a finger towards Rusty, Daniel has enough. He knows Daniel needed someone with Rusty's expertise to work alongside him on such a large manhunt. With so much in question, including who can be trusted, Miles reminds Daniel of his long-time friend Michael Becker, an ex-bounty hunter who faced early retirement due to an emotional breakdown after shooting and killing an armed teenager. Daniel nearly has a myocardial infarction at the mere mention of Michael's name and responds accordingly with some very unfriendly comments which don't set too well with Miles.
Miles keeps his cool but warns Daniel never to speak ill of Michael. Silence blankets the room until Daniel apologizes. The two finally agree that liking Michael or not, Miles needs someone he can trust. But this situation would prove to be no quick-fix for Miles. As Miles is leaving Daniel's office to pay Michael a visit, he runs into Daniel's second-in-line bounty hunting duo, Ryker and Gunner. Things quickly escalate between the three as nasty pot-shots are taken towards one another, causing a hot-headed reaction by Gunner, who damned near shoots Miles. Ryker calms Gunner down and sends him away, but not before Ryker has a few choice words with Miles, warning him that one day he's gonna screw up big time and that he and Gunner are gonna be there to see it, and may very well be the ones who save his ass.
Miles walks off, shaking his head, and is completely dumbfounded by a world which, in a blink of an eye, has turned its back on him. A bounty hunter with an unquestionable record whose whole future now lies in the balance.
Who can Miles trust? Even if he's able to talk Michael into going with him on such a large manhunt, is he in the right state of mind for such an undertaking? And, if this was an inside job, did Rusty have anything to do with it?
Daniel, Ryker and Gunner think not.
