More than 40 years ago, in 1982, director Nicholas Meyer's "The Wrath of Khan" revitalized "Star Trek," overcoming its low budget to be the shot in the arm that "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" failed to be.
This was the second time that the "Star Trek: The Original Series" cast reunited on the silver screen. With how long it has been, it's sadly unsurprising that most of the original "Star Trek" main cast is no longer with us. Spock's sacrifice and emotional last exchange with Kirk in "The Wrath of Khan" are even sadder and more poignant now with Leonard Nimoy's real-life passing in 2015.
Even most of the film's own supporting cast have passed on. Ricardo Montalbán, who delivered the performance of a lifetime as Khan Noonien Singh himself, died in 2009 at age 88. However, a select few of the movie's cast are still with us.

The hottest show of the fall is gearing up for its exciting finale, but will Player 016 (Sam), Player 287 (Mai) or Player 451 (Phill) be named the ultimate winner of “Squid Game: The Challenge”? The Netflix reality TV show concludes on Wednesday, December 6, with one person about to become $4.56 million richer. Gold Derby asked the show’s fans to tell us who they are rooting for to prevail, and we can now reveal the poll results:
49% — Player 287 (Mai)
32% — Player 451 (Phill)
19% — Player 016 (Sam)
See‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ spoilers: Winners, losers and fan-favorites
By far, Mai has been featured more on the show than the other two finalists, thanks in part to her initial mistrust (and later apology) to Player 182 (Tj). And of course, who could forget Mai going after Player 278 (Ashley) in the “Die Test” because she saw her as disloyal for the way she acted toward Player 301 (Trey) in the “Glass Bridge” challenge?...

“The contradictions are extreme and resonate to me in the current unsettling political situation,” admits Bradley Whitford about the bleak reality of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” For our recent webchat he continues, “There seems to be a backlash to what should be described as liberal democracy. It’s interesting to see how a character like this is trying to navigate that world.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Snehal Desai has been named the next artistic director of Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, becoming the first person of color to serve in this position in the organization’s history.
Desai has worked as producing artistic director of L.A.’s historic East West Players since 2016. He will start at Center Theatre Group in August and make his first public appearance as incoming artistic director at Center Theatre Group’s “Light Up Los Angeles” Gala on April 15.
Desai was appointed to the position after a nationwide search led by Arts Consulting Group and an internal search committee, with the goal of making the process the “widest and most equitable search possible.” After wide-ranging discussions on the needs of the position, Ctg crafted a job description and received more than 100 applicants. This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
Previously in the pages of /Film, it was argued that Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) was often given the short shrift on "Star Trek: The Next Generation." While Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) was often given complex and interesting stories, Dr. Crusher was only given a few episodes of her own, more often filling out an ensemble than leading it. I have argued that Dr. Crusher rarely got her own stories because, frankly, she was too complete a character. Her moral code was very clear. She was already the chief medical officer on the Enterprise, so her career was where she wanted it to be. She was an adult who made good decisions. In short, she had her s*** together. Because of these qualities, writers seemed stymied as to what her overall personal drama might be. She was...

Norman Lear, Mimi Kennedy, George Takei, Marla Gibbs and George Wallace are encouraging Hollywood to take steps in creating more stories about the lives of older adults in a new #RethinkAging campaign.
In partnership with the University of Southern California Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center, the industry veterans created an amusing video announcing that they’re still very much in the game — and their stories matter.
“They said 91 is the new 60,” Gibbs said in the video. “I don’t know where they got that, honey. Ninety-one is the new 30.”
Gibbs most recently appeared in Grey’s Anatomy season 19 as the grandmother of one of the hospital’s new residents, but she’s best known for her portrayal of Florence on Lear’s 1970s sitcom The Jeffersons and her role as Mary Jenkins in the ’80s comedy 227.

This article contains Star Trek: Picard spoilers.
Not all Star Trek Easter eggs are created equal. Some are as obvious as a phaser set on vaporize, and others are as squirmy and pervasive as a Ceti eel and can wrap themselves around your cerebral cortex before you’ve had a chance to even identify them. Luckily, even when Easter eggs are coming at warp speed, there is a way to spot them. First, travel back in time and convince yourself to become an obsessive Star Trek fan, next, watch every episode and film of every Star Trek iteration multiple times and then commit it all to memory. Once you’ve done that, travel back to the present, and see if you can spot all the Easter eggs in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 1, “The Next Generation.”
We think we’ve caught everything in this jam-packed episode. But, be warned, Picard...

Outlander star Sam Heughan plays tour guide for a behind-the-scenes look at the Wilmington sets. “Welcome to our version of Selling Wilmington,” jokes Heughan as the nearly four-minute video begins. Heughan’s co-stars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin point out key locations on the set, including where Bree met her real dad for the very first time.
Both Skelton and Rankin take the time to show off the cabin where their characters had their first love scene.
The set’s massive and Sam Heughan confirms it’s grown considerably over the years as they add more and more frontage. “Some of these buildings are only fronts. Others are indoor/outdoor,” explains Heughan, adding that one of his favorite new constructions is the Red Falcon that was built in season six.
“So in the middle of Scotland, we have this beautiful early American town and there’s more to come,” says Skelton.

George Takei has shared a message of support with his former I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate Esther Rantzen following her lung cancer diagnosis.
On Sunday (29 January), the broadcaster and Childline founder publicly shared the news of her diagnosis, announcing that she no longer wanted to keep it a secret after learning that the cancer had spread.
Star Trek actor Takei appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday (30 January), where he shared a message of support for the 82-year-old, with whom he appeared on ITV’s reality show in 2008.
“Esther and I were the senior members of that team in the jungle and we were the early risers,” he said. “We were the earliest in the morning and we got the fire started, the campfire, and boiled the hot water and began the day chatting over white tea [and] hot water in the jungle.
“I love her dearly.

In the third episode of the third season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Mining the Mind's Mines," the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos has been tasked with rescuing a team of geologists from a planet populated by silicon-based life forms called the Scrubble. Commander Ransom (Jerry O'Connell) bemoans the fact that Federation scientists often play fast-and-loose with safety, and it's always Starfleet who has to come clean up their research missions when they go afoul.
On the Scrubble planet, mysterious glowing crystal orbs read a victim's thoughts, briefly manifest their deepest desires in the real world, and then turn their victims into statues. Throughout the episode, characters will have to come up with quick, embarrassed excuses when some of their deepest desires appear in front of their peers. Ensign Mariner (Tawney Newsome), for instance, can't help but reveal that she's developed feelings for her Andorian co-worker Jennifer.

Starz has served up our first real look at two new key Outlander season seven cast members. The minute-and-a-half video introduces Outlander fans to Joey Phillips as Dr. Denzell Hunter and Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Hunter.
Phillips and Meikle-Small play siblings who have a very close, loving relationship. Phillips describes Denzell as a surgeon with a real desire to join the Continental Army because “he believes that liberty is a gift from God.” Rachel’s conflicted about Denzell’s decision but accompanies him anyway because she doesn’t really have anywhere else to go.
In the video, Izzy Meikle-Small confirms their season seven costumes will be very modest because they’re Quakers.
Season seven’s newcomers also include Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom, the secret son of Jamie Fraser. And Starz offers this description of Vandervaart’s character:
