- Reese and Shaw go to a H.S. reunion to shadow a prosecutor who may have been involved in a killing 20 years ago. Finch and Fusco compete with the FBI to find out why a government employee was killed. And not far behind is Vigilance.
- Reese, Shaw and Finch are too late for their latest number, Leona Wainwright, as she is killed in front of Reese and Shaw's eyes. They know that Leona was killed by Vigilance for information she would have had unwittingly with regard to the Machine as a federal government employee. Finch decides to take Fusco to Washington DC to see if they can discover what information Vigilance wants, which is probably housed somewhere in Leona's physical or virtual office. Their problem is that the FBI is also involved in the investigation, which means that the Bureau has first access to all relevant information regarding the case. Root is getting her own information from the Machine as to Vigilance's involvement with Leona's death and what they will do to obtain whatever information they are looking for. Leona's death also causes nerves to rise within the politicos in the know, that nervousness which funnels its way to Control. Meanwhile, Reese and Shaw feel like they are being punished by Finch in dealing with the next number, that belonging to lawyer Matthew Reed. The punishment as they see it is that they are forced to go undercover as former high school classmates of Matthew's, he who is attending his twenty year high school reunion in Westchester for the weekend. Reese and Shaw figure that Matthew is the target as he seems unwelcome at the reunion by many, who believe he killed his girlfriend at the time, Claire Klein. After a fight with Matthew, Claire was found dead in Matthew's car on graduation night. Although there are open taunts toward Matthew regarding Claire's death, there are also subversive public ones by an unknown person, probably the perpetrator, meant to scare. The most likely candidate as the person after Matthew is Doug Hemmill, who was Claire's male BFF. Reese and Shaw's task in finding out what is going on with Matthew is made all the more difficult by masquerading as the people who have a certain and largely unknown history with those at the reunion, and by what Finch, Fusco and Root are dealing with in DC.—Huggo
- Reese and Shaw are tracking Leona Wainwright, who is an assistant of the federal government spending vacation in New York City. She takes a taxi to see Mamma Mia at Broadway when the taxi blows-up. They conclude that Vigilance is responsible for the murder. The Machine delivers the name of the prosecutor Mathew Reed, and Finch decides to go to Wahington D.C. with Fusco to investigate the murder of Leona while Reese and Shaw follow Reed to Westchester where he will have a reunion of former high school classmates for the weekend. Soon Reese and Shaw see that Matthew may be a target since his classmates believe he killed his girlfriend Claire Klein twenty years ago. Meanwhile, Fusco and Finch go to the FBI evidence room and Finch breaks in and cracks the safe. He robs documents from inside the safe but the Vigilance arrive. Collier takes the documents from Finch, but he is saved by Root.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Open with Reese and Shaw tracking the latest number. It's Leona Wainwright, a clerical assistant for the federal government who works in Washington D.C. She is on vacation in New York and is on her way to see a Broadway production of Mamma Mia. They see her in a cab that doesn't seem to be moving. The man behind the wheel doesn't fit the description from city records and moments letter the cab explodes.
Based on a cell phone that was thrown from the vehicle the teams realizes this was the work of Vigilance. Since she worked for the government, Finch realizes this is about the machine.
Root and her FBI badge meet Fusco at the scene of Leona's murder. She tells him that Leona's department handled security clearance. Security clearances
Senator Garrison meets with Control (Camryn Mannheim), who works in the Secretary of Defense's office. She tells him Vigilance is behind the murder and he's worried about their names being compromised. She tells him to calm down, reminding him that Northern Lights has prevented numerous terrorist acts.
The next number is a man named Matthew Reed (Nestor Carbonell), who is a criminal prosecutor in the Manhattan DA's office. He is headed to Westchester, so Reese and Shaw will follow undercover. Finch and Fusco will be going to DC to look into Leona's death.
Reese and Shaw arrive in Westchester. It turns out to be Reed's 20th high school reunion. Reed seems to take an interest in Shaw.
One of the alums tells Shaw and Reese that Reed hasn't been back since graduation. Reed's high school girlfriend, Claire, died during their senior year and many people think Reed has something to do with her death because her body was found in his car. Another alum, a caterer named Doug, bumps into Reed and tells him rudely that he shouldn't have come.
Fusco and Finch find that the FBI has beaten them to Leona's office and removed almost all of her work. They removed the safe, which would have contained the names of every official who could access the confidential info in her department. But Finch thinks there should also be electronic copies and he has a plan to get into the network.
An alum tells Reese that Claire was Doug's best platonic friend. He also thinks there was no foul play, that Claire OD'd. During the bowling alley event somebody projects pictures of Claire's body on the screens with the message "A Night To Remember." Reed leaves.
Shaw walks Reed to his hotel room. She asks if he wants to talk about what happened but he passes. Shaw takes over the room next to Reed by telling the present tenant that it has been closed due to bedbugs. Reese comes by and they set up surveillance. Fusco sends Shaw the report of Claire's death. It was ruled an accidental OD. Reed told police that night that they got into a fight and she took his car.
Finch finds out that somebody has wiped the electronic files. He needs to break in to access the real safe.
At the reunion dance Shaw spends time with Reed. He knows she's not the alum she's pretending to be. Shaw tells him she thinks he's hiding something but doesn't believe he killed Claire. Somebody has a mannequin with a Claire nametag dropped from the ceiling with balloons. Reese learns that one of the other alums is also likely an imposter.
Reese follows the imposter to the kitchen and the two fight. Reese comes out on top and the man eats a cyanide capsule to avoid answering questions. He's with Vigilance. Reese finds a picture of himself in the man's pocket, meaning they're after him and Shaw, not Reed. Somebody fills the gift bags with empty prescription bottles with Claire's name on them. Doug gets a text from Claire asking him to meet in the chem lab. They realized that Doug is the one being terrorized.
In the chem lab Doug finds a handwritten suicide note with his name on it. Reed is there with a gun. He thinks Doug killed Claire and Doug seems to confirm that he knows more about her death than he let on. Doug admits to slipping the drug into her drink, thinking it would help her like him more. Reed is furious for being made to think he killed Claire for 20 years. Shaw and Reese arrive and prevent Reed from killing Doug, but at the same moment Vigilance operatives open fire with automatic weapons. Root contacts Shaw and admits she leaked her and Reese's location in order to get more info on Vigilance but that she was sure they could take care of themselves. Root then is told by the machine that Finch is going to be in trouble.
We see Fusco and Finch go in to the evidence room and asks for evidence from the case. Fusco steals keys and lets Finch into the room so he can try to crack the safe.
Using some of the chemicals in the room Shaw and Reese manage to take out all of the Vigilance agents.
Vigilance arrives at the evidence room and blow the doors just as Finch cracks the safe. He pulls out a file but finds himself face to face with Collier. Collier has figured out the basics of Finch's operation and demands the file. Root arrives to save the day, however, Collier escapes with the file.
Doug is taken away by the police. Reed proposes that he and Shaw get together down the road. She says that she doesn't do relationships. "I wasn't talking about a relationship," Reed replies.
Root tells Finch that Collier has made the report public. It implicates Garrison in a massive surveillance system named Northern Lights.
Garrison faces tough media questions. He goes to Control and demands she shut down the machine. He leaves the room and she places a phone calls. She tells someone: "deactivate the program. Shut it down." We see that she had a file on Collier, and it ends up in the shredder.
We see that all of the Northern Lights info is now being routed through Root.
