Well done
zhengweima14 May 2014
I respectfully have to disagree with the first person's post on POI. The thing about POI is that from the beginning, the show had to involve. Much like the nuclear arms race, once one person or entity builds something so powerful, people are going to try and copy it. That being said, Finch and Reese were always bound to meet new people as they confront more and more complex issues. And you're right, the people do change. Finch always wanted to be distanced from his machine, as he mentions time and again. Reese obviously follows Finch, and it makes sense that he starts fading into the shadows as well. All of this just reflects the true nature of who they are.

With respect to the evil argument, I believe that this is EXACTLY the way it should be. In real life people rarely always win. And sure, you might argue that this is a TV show, but when Snowden came out and busted the lines to pretty much exactly prove what this show said from the beginning, you better believe that this show is going to get real.

With respect to your final concern, the fact that this show is going off the tracks, it's bound to happen. The writers of this show have to cater to millions of viewers, they can not simply please all of us at once. They, in the words of Finch, "do the best that they can do". I for one am extremely excited to see where this show is going to go, because you can bet it'll be one hell of a ride.

Wow!

Warning: Spoilers
I've always enjoyed this show, have seen it improve from season to season, and been increasingly intrigued by its characters and plot lines.

With this episode, I think it has become, far and away, the best SF show on television!

Imagine the Terminator storyline with Skynet as a benevolent(?)despot instead of a straight villain.

Loved the story, the acting, the surprises(Hirsh as a good guy? Decima runs Vigilance? Root and Shaw flirting with each other?!?!), and the music(Radiohead's BREATHE was perfect!).

Can't wait for next season!

Person of Interest' evolution into a 'truly great' show!
Shoo away everybody who thinks Person of Interest is no longer about the "Person of Interest of the week" and hence sucks. If you don't like it, simply don't watch it. While PoI was a good/great show when it dealt with a 'case of the week' theme in the first two seasons, it has elevated into a truly great show in Season 3, a show that can now be spoken of in the same breath as the likes of Breaking Bad. 'The Crossing' and now 'Deus Ex Machina' have been two of the best hours on TV the past season. – The closest comparison to PoI's evolution would be Arrow, a show that was good in it's first season dealing with a baddie of the week but has now elevated into a great show with a season-long-baddie in Season 2. - I honestly thought that there would not be a show in a long time that could match the grandeur & scale of 'Lost'…such was the enormity & complexity of Lost that it's creators themselves couldn't understand where the show was heading. Now I can happily tick that item off my list of TV worries now that Person of Interest is here to keep me company in it's 'machina' arms! Besides the PoI writers actually seem to know where the show is heading, unlike the ones at Lost.

Everything is not as it seems.....

Warning: Spoilers
Man! What a finale.the first half of the episode Meh...The second half kicked and the last 10 min made me realize to never underestimate POI writers.Villains turned out to be just misguided heroes. If Season 4 is anywhere near Season 3 POI is gonna be a severe contender for several Emmy awards. And they might have to open a new category for "Best Villain in a TV show" :P It's indeed going be a long summer...

Spoilers:

My reaction to the episode as it progressed: Collier wtf shotgun Rivera dead.. aah..boring flashbacks.... How to get a cycle during blackout By Mr.Hersh... Fusco the least intelligent but the most adorable cop...really "What machine" :) and the second half started.. Whoah...wait wait..wth I just watched.. Everything makes sense now... Uncle Nolan...as next James Bond Villain... Root ....Its not abt winning...its abt surviving...True True cyborg :P Exit Music..Thanks POI for another song to my play list...

(IMHO) One of Finest Hours of Television

This episode has it all. Great setup and payoff, great use of a finale for each of the heroes and villains, and to date the most out-of-left field twist for the series

WOW! What A Great Finally What A Amazing Finally.... When An Idea You Created For the Greeting Good , For Helping People, stolen from you and converted for someone needs the one that created a false Enemy To make his project pass it's like we made you ill and we sell you the cure ! And It's really take a good brain to find a workaround solution because if you can't Finish your Enemy you

just need to create a blind spot that he'll never

find you ...because if you destroy it he'll recreate it but if you control the output then you're safe.

Extraordinary
remyleblanc29 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Listen, I would never have posted a review on this site, but I watched that episode and I fell off my chair.

AMAZING

I watch a LOT of shows and this episode concluding a season long intrigue is incredible. Some little naive things, as soon as collier received his text everything made sense.

Other than that, it's America I was waiting for little hope, and there was none! That what's made it great. (That is why I was disappointed by the finale of breaking bad, all along the five season no hope, no way back, so why the last episode)

Now I will spend the summer thinking a way out for the four/ seven characters. This will be a completely new show.

Whoaaaa.....

What is the reality different from this episode ?
kschols16 January 2023
This episode already a few years old , and it shows how much every country knows of their people , they just brand their citizen to terrorist , innocent or not with one push of a button

This tv serie shows great what's still going and even got worse in the next ten years of AI and privacy

A controlled country of people walking around trusting their own government while they are being spied on.

It's called science fiction , but nowadays with all the technology used to mind control the people the last 2/3 years it is more reality

Even though this episode has some great acting some will say it's just written fiction.

The Trial and Showdown
claudio_carvalho4 March 2024
Collier decides to judge the government of the United States and he brings Control, Greer, Finch, Manuel Rivera and General Holcomb to an improvised court. The jury is composed by members of the press and the trial is broadcast live. Meanwhile, the Vigilance cause a blackout in New York to bring chaos to the city. Reese and Shaw are forced to team-up with Hersh to look for Finch and Control. Shaw goes to meet Root at New Jersey since she wants to sabotage the Samaritan including her servers. There is a showdown of Decima and Vigilance and Collier learns how Machiavellian Greer is.

"Deus Ex Machina" is the last episode of the Third Season of "Person of Interest". Greer shows how Machiavellian he is, plot each step of his path. Now the Vigilance is gone, and Reese, Shaw, Root and Finch need to defeat the powerful Samaritan. My vote is nine.

A Very Weak Finale
monticellomeadow14 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I have always liked this show, from its inception. What drew me to it were the characters of Finch and Reese. For, I guess, ratings, over the past two years they have introduced two female characters, Root and Shaw. Fine. I could live with that. But now they completely dominate the show! And never more than the season finale. Finch is a lost little boy now, his machine gone into the ether and no longer speaking to him. But it DOES speak to Root! What???? Reese is only brought in when they need someone shot. Root seems to be the star of the show. She is the only one the machine speaks to, and she, alone, orchestrates the actions and fates of the other characters. Finch and Reese are minor characters, depending on the "strong" women, Root and Shaw. Ugh! Poor Fusco is a tiny sideshow now. They ran him into the show for a cameo a couple of times in the finale, but that's it. He has no role anymore. Just terrible writing in my view. And then, to top it off, Evil Triumphs in the finale. Not the way it should be. We were led down a garden path with Root - and Shaw - doing some elaborate work seemingly to destroy Samaritan. Nope! Turns out all of the elaborate work will not put a virus in Samaritan that will end it. It will only do the tiny job of making the fugitives (Finch, Reese, et. al. with new names and identities)safe from the prying eyes of Samaritan. And then we end the season with the preposterous Big Brother-like scenes of the now-totalitarian police, empowered by some dense but all-powerful Senator and a throughly corrupt Washington, running around shooting people who Samaritan tells then should/must be shot. Pleeeeezzze!!!!!!! Completely unbelievable. I enjoyed the first two-and-a-half seasons of POI immensely. But about half way through this last season, the train began to wobble on the tracks. I was assured, here and elsewhere, "give it a chance." I did. And now, with this awful finale, it has completely jumped the tracks. It will be back in the Fall. I don't think I will.
