The Grinning Man

Warning: Spoilers
Well, let me start off by saying that I figured 'Revolution' would end on some kind of cliffhanger, but I kind of hoped it wouldn't be one that intrigued me. This most likely being the series finale really bums me out because it went out on a bit of a high note. The final sequence at least really brought the nanite plot to an exciting peak, and they were already the most interesting thing about this show. The Patriots were interesting on-and-off, but I think their ultimate elimination in this episode was more satisfying than most of the other plots involving them.

Overall, season two was a big improvement over the first season, but it did still suffer occasional shoddy execution like one instance in this episode that really bothered me: Truman decides to eliminate all his compatriots (aside from President Davis) in an attempt to frame the protagonists. But he shoots them one by one, and they each just stand there for something like 15-twenty seconds, apparently just waiting for the next bullet to hit them. Perhaps something could explain this away, but it was just lazy, in my opinion. But other than that, it was a great episode. Miles giving Monroe another chance to prove himself, and Monroe taking this to heart. Neville successfully pitting Connor against his father, but ultimately both being outwitted by Monroe. The deception used on President Davis, made meaningful by General Blanchard's presence, was also great.

This show already grew so much in the span of one season, and I really believe that it could become even better were it given another shot. Perhaps a limited-run even, like 'Fringe' received and 'The Killing' is getting. Larga vida a 'Revolución'!

Bash, miles and Charley and her mother teaming up to prosecute the president.

i like the way Bas,Miles, charley and her mother are teaming in trying to claim back the new America,Tom as the cripiest person in the whole series, is always a looser and i like the way hes trying to approach his issues with his boy "EASY Boy" makes me smile each moment, he drips honey from his mouth as Mr president refers him. The biggest challenge of all is; will Sebastian Monroe succeed in reclaiming back his republic, will his son forgive him for separating himself from the deal they had to kill Mr president. Still on the other hand am waiting to see marriage between miles and Rebbecah. i loved the ending. hope to watch season 3.

Paging Stephen King
ldravis25 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The ax fell upon "Revolution" without much warning and, undoubtedly, the writers were taken by surprise. "Declaration of Independence" proceeds pretty much as any episode of the series: gunfight, exposition, back- story, revelation, gunfight, etc., until the last ten minutes. Oops, the show is ending, so we'll just mop up the war, give Uncle (daddy?) Miles permission to pursue Charlie's mom, blah, blah, blah. Then it gets weird.

Aaron's relationship with the nanos was the only truly compelling story line. The beast that he (and Rachel) unleashed upon the world offered so many plot possibilities, but in the final death-throes of "Revolution", we're oddly offered a segue into Stephen King's "The Stand".

In the last five minutes of the finale there are visions of lost loved ones, characters whose names vaguely resemble those from King's apocalyptic novel, a gathering of the evil forces in a remote western stronghold, and even a grinning neon clown. Just add a demonic car, or a cat who won't die, and we're there.

Why the writers chose this path is a mystery to me. I'd like to believe that, upon hearing the news of cancellation, they elected to honor Stephen King, who was obviously cribbed from from the beginning. But maybe it was just desperation and a lack of imagination.

After a promising debut, "Revolution" fell into a tired formula, stalling the forward momentum of the story, which should have revolved around Aaron and Rachel and their responsibility for creating the nanos. Instead, we got another variation of "Lost".

Ending on a high note: clown face and potatoes
mardermj22 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The show started as post Apocalypse and reminded me of fiction built around that series of specials, what would happen if man ended his reign on earth, and the world deteriorated decade by decade. Instead of more intrigue around that dissolution, it ends on boring political wars with artificial intelligence thrown in, but not a zombie in sight, the original premise of no electricity, as gone as Laura's real killer mid season Twin Peaks, same problem, same lame meaningless drift, almost twenty five years ago.

And we're left with the "cliffhanger" -- stuck in Idaho with a clown faced neon sign and a bunch of robotic people roaming around. NEVER have I felt more disinterested in how this all works out.

The actors and cinematography was without peer, music great, original premise intriguing, and the writers just ran out of ideas and it was painful to watch episode by episode.

Maybe NFLX or scy fy channel might be interested in resurrecting this mess, but my first recommendation would be, get some new writers and a real plot line that involves some more science fiction. This started fairly well and ended up lamer than four day old sushi.

Ending

Warning: Spoilers
Lets face it, this show was not very good from the start, but the story had great potential. The thing NBC did wrong in the first season was that is was too convenient and it was to nice and peachy. After season 2 premiered it was very evident that NBC tried to make it violent and go on the edge but as usual for this company it did not work. Now for this episode. I believe they did not pull it off the way that is should have been. The actors in this are far better than the actual show they acted in. I do not believe that mustard gas was the right evil thing for the "bad people" to use. They could have gone with something that actually had a good story or maybe something more sinister like uranium or sarin gas but mustard isn't sinister enough for the character they were trying to make up. Most of the good characters had so little character development it was sometimes hard to watch. At the beginning of the episode it shows that Pricilla has a wound on her ear lobe. They automatically believe that she is weaker. The fact that she had a wound shows no evidence that they were weaker because she took over a mortal body, it was the body that was injured not the nano tech but whatever. Now for the theater, I expected far more soldiers for a meeting with two presidents of rather large areas, and there weren't any Texas soldiers in the room, only Patriots. Now that Miles and Charlie could just walk into a town in which they are wanted for many offenses without being seen is just annoying. The rest of the episode was alright, I liked the fact that they killed that guy who worked for that girl in New Vegas but they really underplayed it. Finally, ending was just plain terrible. If Texas and the US signed a declaration of war against California and then Texas destroys the US I doubt California would believe they ACCIDENTALLY called for war against them. AND FINALLY, the "preview" to whatever happens next. I believe they really should have brought the power back if this is really the series finale, but they didn't, what they did was they teased mindless humans walking towards some random ice cream store in Idaho(and by the way they were still talking when the people were being convinced to go to this random house, and then during this conversation you see them waling towards the town so the science of time and physics just is too much for NBC) so this show and its finale get a 3.
