With the Jenny character being written out at the end of the last series, and the stories that made up Jennifer Worth's memoirs on which the show was based being all used up, this marked a new era for the show.
Helen George's 'Trixie' became the central midwife character, Patsy got promoted to second central focus, and new recruit Barbara was added, as an almost like for like replacement to Jessica Raine's Jenny.
It all feels the same, and yet slightly different. With the opening narrations from older Jenny feeling less useful, and so many changes to the cast, the show feels like it's moved on.
As a viewer you'll either like the changes or not.
