Monday Night Raw is in the books for another week. One day after the aftermath of the Royal Rumble, the Raw brand finds itself on the Road to Wrestlemania. How did the show fare this week?
One big development is the official challenge from Brock Lesnar to Goldberg for one last match at Wrestlemania. Brock’s advocate, the legendary Paul Heyman, once again did the talking for him which, even on Paul’s worst night, is always a treat to watch.
Heyman’s promo on Raw was the textbook reason why some people need managers. Brock Lesnar, unless he’s in an interview setting, is about as interesting on the mic as watching paint dry. (I say this with confidence because he’s not in the room with me as I write this. If he were to walk into the room right now, I would say ‘Yes Mr. Lesnar, you...

January 24th, 1988 was a great day in wrestling history. On that date, live on the USA Network, the WWE held their first ever Royal Rumble. In classic Vince McMahon fashion, holding this event for free on cable was a way to keep folks from ordering the Bunkhouse Stampede pay per view Jim Crockett Promotions put out that same day. The Royal Rumble match itself was revolutionary. Starting with two performers in the ring, at regularly timed intervals, another performer would come out until, in the case of the 1988 Royal Rumble, all twenty participants were in the ring. The winner of that first Rumble was Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Fast forward 29 years and here we are at the 30th Royal Rumble. Unlike the Rumble’s that have occurred the past five years, the WWE has done an amazing job of promoting this event. They have some great matches in store as well...

Nxt Takeover: San Antonio is live tonight on the WWE Network. Takeover, for the casual fan that may not know, is the quarterly event that the Nxt brand holds. It’s their pay per view level event. Some of the best matches the WWE put on last year were at Takeover events, such as Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn at Takeover: Dallas and The Revival vs #Diy at Takeover: Toronto. The level of talent at Nxt meets and in some cases exceeds the talent on the main roster so if you’re a fan of good, entertaining matches, this show will be a can’t miss show. Presented for your approval is a preview of the show and my predictions for who comes out victorious.
Roderick Strong vs Cien Andrade Almas
Fans of Ring of Honor will be the first to tell you that Roderick Strong is an amazing talent in the ring.

Nxt is in the books for another week. They’re building up to their quarterly event Nxt Takeover: San Antonio. This episode saw the contract signing between Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura for the Nxt Championship at Takeover. We also saw The Revival face off against Tm-61 in a brutal match. We also saw an offer from Eric Young of Sanity to Tye Dillenger. How did this show hold up?
I have to say I am enjoying the Sanity stable led by former Tna star Eric Young. It’s a perfect use for him. Eric is not going to be someone who will go after a major championship in the WWE. That is not a knock against him by any means because not many people get the call to be the top guy. But what he is great at is being a teacher. He can be the veteran who...

So, we are heading quickly towards WWE’s second May PPV, Extreme Rules, and there are lots of rematches from Payback likely to happen at that show. I hope this doesn’t mean the product will be stale for the next month or so, but we shall see.

The executive vice president, talent, live events and creative will watch in awe, along with other rabid fans, as the developmental brand takes center stage. That whimper you heard Monday night was WWE’s last episode of Raw for the year as the company closed out a disappointing 2015 with a lackluster performance from the roster. Well, actually it was about half the roster, as WWE ran a simultaneous house show Monday night, so stars like Dolph Ziggler, the Wyatt Family, Dudley Boyz, Paige and Charlotte were unavailable for Raw.
Still, with John Cena returning and Vince McMahon coming back after being assaulted by Roman Reigns, it felt like WWE could have been trying to end 2015 on a high note… and then Raw happened. The matches mostly didn’t click, the angles largely fell flat, and fans in a usually hot locale like Brooklyn was left chanting, “This is boring!” and doing the wave. That’s never a good sign.

On the final night of Nxt’s first ever UK tour before Nxt TakeOver: London, the fan-favourite brand hit Cardiff for an action-packed night just as good as any one of those specials and considerably better than the majority of this year’s WWE PPVs.
The star studded event played to a sold out crowd (while it was never officially advertised as being sold out, I couldn’t see an empty seat in the arena which held a raucous 7500 fans), and delivered A+ match after A+ match as titles were defended, beloved Superstars returned, and the “Divas Revolution” was in full effect as three awesome women’s wrestling matches were showcased.
There have been rumours for years that the WWE might bring a WrestleMania to the Welsh capital’s massive Millennium Stadium, and those in attendance at Nxt last night proved why they deserve one.
Of course, there were...

It’s been a very long time since Nxt have hosted a main event as overbooked as Eva Marie Vs Bayley. Interference, two separate referee bumps, a post-match attack; things got very ‘main roster’ at Nxt last night, in more ways than one.
It almost seemed like an Invasion angle was being played. Michael Cole and Charles Robinson arrived to upend the status quo, Total Divas got a big shout out, it was all incredibly disconcerting, and quite compelling.
Elsewhere on the card, the feud between Asuka and Demma Brooke (as they shall henceforth be known) chugged inevitably onwards, with Emma setting herself up for a surely astonishing beating at Nxt TakeOver London, Baron Corbin vs Apollo Crews was set in stone, and a contract signing went so typically awry.
Full card (with finishes):

If, like many of us, you were left somewhat perplexed at what transpired as Survivor Series came to an end on Sunday night, fear not: WWE’s next big show (not counting the upcoming Nxt Takeover in London, which should be absolutely freakin’ awesome) is TLC!
Yes, that annual excuse for the company to produce as many spots within three hours of programming as possible is on the horizon once again, so what better time to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of the most dangerous, dastardly and downright deranged moments from the TLC match itself over the years?
There have been 17 TLC matches across 15 years to date, so there’s plenty to choose from…

Nxt’s latest TakeOver special, Respect, decisively reinforced the fact that Nxt is steamrolling WWE as far as passion, intensity, in-ring storytelling and sheer athleticism go. There wasn’t a single dud match among the bunch, and in fact several terrific bouts which served as a brilliant showcase for these immense talents.
Even so, just because this was a much higher quality show than WWE’s typical output, don’t think that means it’s any less Wtf. Yes, Nxt still had its share of peculiar moments, what with Byron Saxton’s presence damn-near guaranteeing it, not to mention an extremely excitable crowd, the Nxt debut of the legendary Asuka, and a main event sure to go down in Nxt history.
From the very good good creative decisions, to a few bad and a glut of just totally weird ones, here are 26 Wtf moments from Nxt TakeOver: Respect…...

The main event of WWE Nxt Takeover on October 7 will see Nxt Women’s Champion Bayley defending her title against the former champion Sasha Banks in a 30 minute Iron Man (or Iron Woman in this case) match at Full Sail University in Orlando.
The bout was announced via WWE’s social media platforms on Thursday night as the company held Nxt tapings for future episodes that will air in the coming weeks.
An Iron Man Match is a gruelling bout where the winner is determined by who has the most falls (pinfall, submission, disqualification or countout) in the allotted amount of time. The match often times runs 60 minutes, with the most famous Iron Man Match taking place at WrestleMania 12 when Shawn Michaels beat Bret Hart for his first WWE Title, but there have been many 30 minute Iron Man Matches as well.

This week’s edition of WWE Monday Night Raw takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, which is where the Nxt Takeover and SummerSlam events took place. It’s the third straight sellout of the building and it should be another raucous crowd on hand.
According to a report from PWInsider, The Undertaker won’t be there. Apparently he was scheduled to at least be at Raw backstage, but he chose to fly home to Texas. His health is said to be fine, despite some reports suggesting he was hurt.
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are scheduled to be on Raw. Heyman will likely fire off an angry promo about the referee Charles Robinson not seeing when Undertaker tapped out to Lesnar during their SummerSlam main event match.

Live from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, it’s SummerSlam 2015!
Lilian Garcia introduces host Jon Stewart and we’re under way! He drops a Beastie Boys reference and hypes up the show. ‘I’ve spent sixteen years talking about politics, it’s nice to be back in reality’. WWE? Reality? This is clearly a WWE-scripted intro, then. Huge boos for Cena’s name. This crowd is going to eat him alive. Mick Foley is brought out- cheap pops imminent…yup, there it is. They riff with each other for a while and it doesn’t really go anywhere. Still, nice to see Foley and Stewart looks up for this.
After the customary video package, it’s time for our first match…
Sheamus Vs. Randy Orton
Good choice for an opener. Orton went for an Rko early, but Sheamus bailed and cut a ringside promo and fans looking stupid.

World Wrestling Entertainment has signed Japanese women’s wrestler Kanna to a contract, which is why she appeared on camera at Nxt Takeover Brooklyn on Saturday night.
Kanna was shown at ringside following Samoa Joe’s win. She was conveniently placed beside WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Sgt. Slaughter. She simply stared into the camera while the crowd cheered at the sight of two legends enjoying the show.
Her name used to be spelled Kana with one “n” but WWE likes to trademark names of their talent, so they added the second n to it, reminiscent of when Taz became Tazz once he signed with WWE 15 years ago.

As we now find Nxt Takeover: Brooklyn in the record books, the Nxt brand has again delivered a show of high quality.
With a sold out crowd of 15,000+ in attendance at Brooklyn’s Barlcays Center, this was a huge moment for Nxt; if they hit a home run here then the only way is up, but if they put on a so-so or poor show that leads to big question marks being asked about the stars of tomorrow. Simply put, Takeover: Brooklyn was a huge opportunity. Luckily for us, those involved grabbed that opportunity with both hands and delivered an exceptional show from start to finish.
The cult of Nxt is growing, the talents are improving, the reach is extending, and when people say that Nxt is the most hotly-talked about place in professional wrestling, they’re not lying.

During a conference call to promote the WWE Nxt Takeover event on Saturday, Triple H mentioned that WWE is planning on doing more Nxt events at bigger arenas just like like Takeover in Brooklyn. That’s no surprise considering WWE has sold out Barclays Center on Saturday for Takeover, Sunday for SummerSlam and Monday for Raw.
Hunter said he wants to run those Takeover events “a few times” per year while feeding off of the “epic” WWE PPV events, such as SummerSlam. He didn’t mention it, but that likely means that future Takeover specials could be around Royal Rumble, WrestleMania and Survivor Series. They could run the Takeover specials on Saturday nights and in the case of WrestleMania, it would probably be Friday night because the Hall of Fame ceremony takes place on Saturday.

This week’s edition of Monday night Raw takes place in Minneapolis, Minnesota and it will feature all the big names just six days before SummerSlam. The biggest hype for the show surrounds Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker being in the same building at the same time since their epic brawl on Raw on July 20.
While it’s not known what Lesnar or Undertaker might do on Raw, it is a big deal for them both to be present. Undertaker has only been on Raw once this year (the aforementioned July 20 brawl) while Lesnar is a part-timer that isn’t around every week. Will they brawl again or will WWE do something lame like a contract signing? That’s not known at this time.
Lesnar has spent a lot of years in the state of Minnesota, so he could receive an even louder ovation from the hometown crowd.

During the opening promo on Raw this week, Kevin Owens was in the ring with Seth Rollins and Cesaro. Randy Orton walked out and threw in a line about Kevin Owens when he wondered if he had gained any weight. Apparently that was a line scripted by WWE officials who are against Owens because they think he looks fat, according to Wrestling Observer Radio.
Orton’s short line was: “Kevin, have you put on weight lately?” Then he made a motion suggesting a big belly. Owens replied with a “no” as Orton moved on.
Owens ended up competing in a triple threat match against Orton and Cesaro, which Orton won when he hit a Rko on Cesaro and pinned him. It was a great match that proved once again that Owens is one of the best in-ring performers in WWE.

Apollo Crews will be the WWE name of standout independent wrestler Uhaa Nation. The name was announced during this week’s WWE Nxt broadcast. It was also announced that he’ll make his WWE TV debut at the Nxt Takeover Brooklyn event on August 22.
The inspiration for the name appears to be from the fictional boxer Apollo Creed from the Rocky movies and Crews is the same last name as actor Terry Crews, who has the look of a professional wrestler.
Twitter
He isn’t the first wrestler to do something like that since Christian (Cage) got his name from actors Christian Slater and Nicolas C age. Tyson Kidd got his name from boxer Mike Tyson and basketball player Jason Kidd, so getting names off famous people is more common than you might think.
The reason WWE makes their performers change their names is because they want to trademark everything.

Sting hasn’t been announced to be in a match at SummerSlam yet but WWE is already jumping the gun by advertising him for a SummerSlam Meet & Greet session on Friday August 21 in Brooklyn.
What’s interesting is that he’ll be a part of a signing session at 40/40 Club & Restaurant at Barclays Center along with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels.
A match between Sting and Shawn Michaels would be the true definition of a “dream match” but it’s never going to happen since Michaels has been retired for over five years. The last time they were in the ring together was at WrestleMania 31 when Michaels nailed Sting with a Superkick, which ended up costing Sting his first match ever against Triple H.
There will also be autograph sessions for Saturday, August 22 at 10am for Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose, 12:30pm for Randy Orton and Paige,...

Sami Zayn was going to be a regular member of the main WWE roster if he didn’t hurt his shoulder prior to his match against John Cena on May 4. Now that he’s out, his best friend Kevin Owens has been put in that spot even though Zayn’s a face and Owens is a heel.
The news comes from a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Live podcast where it was mentioned that Zayn would be full time on the main roster following the May 20 Nxt Takeover event. It likely would have seen Owens beat Zayn again leading to Zayn leaving Nxt for good with that Samoa Joe debut still likely taking place. Instead, Owens took out Zayn with a Powerbomb on the ring apron and Zayn is expected to be out of action for about six months.

The WWE divas in Nxt continue to impress and now there are internal discussions that they might headline a Nxt special this year. According to this week’s Wrestling Observer, there is serious talk about having the women go on last.
A lot of it will depend on who is in the match. Sasha Banks, the current Nxt Women’s Champion, is such a skilled performer that could definitely have a main event caliber match with anybody as long as there’s a good story to back it up. She headlined a Nxt live event in Philadelphia with Charlotte a few weeks ago, which garnered a lot of attention because it’s such a rare thing. To do it during a Nxt special on WWE Network would be a big deal.

This was as crucial an episode of Raw as they come.
Following the unparalleled success of Nxt Takeover Unstoppable it was paramount that Raw put on a show to assert itself as the premier show in the company. Not that it would ever come into question in the mainstream stakes, Raw is in dangerous territory at the moment in the eyes of pure professional wrestling fans.
There’s little doubting Nxt puts on a far more compelling show and that a lot of the content seen on a Monday night pales in significance. Then again it is harder to fill three hours of television every week than it is to fill one hour and a pay per view held once every blue moon.
The reviews of the developmental territory’s show have gone through the roof and left those writing Raw undoubtedly sweating and looking over their collective shoulders somewhat.

This week’s Smackdown was part of a very busy week from WWE since they had a solid Payback show on Sunday, a really good Raw episode on Monday and another exciting Nxt Takeover special on Wednesday. With Smackdown taping on Tuesday and airing in the Us on Thursday it definitely got lost in the shuffle. That’s what happens when WWE doesn’t treat it like a major show.
The good news about this week’s Smackdown is that there was at least some storyline progression. There are some weeks where they barely do anything in that regard. However, this week there was a good focus on the Divas Title, Tag Team Titles and some of the other feuds that started to develop on Raw. That’s what happens when you only have two weeks until the Elimination Chamber show.
Here are the match results from this week’s Smackdown.

Last night’s Nxt Takeover special featured a fantastic match between Nxt Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch that went nearly 20 minutes for the match. It was the match of the night and when it was over, Banks left with the title while Lynch earned the respect of the fans, who gave her a standing ovation for her efforts.
To compare it to the main roster, at Sunday’s Payback PPV the divas were in a forgettable tag contest and the Divas Title match that followed on Raw felt rushed too. What’s the difference? Triple H runs Nxt while Vince McMahon does not.
According to this week’s Wrestling Observer, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon want to change the way women are featured in WWE. Meanwhile, Vince McMahon seems to be set in his ways in using women as part of the show instead of featured as major attractions.

This week’s Raw will likely feature a lot of build up to the Elimination Chamber event taking place on May 31.
With only two weeks of TV to build to the show, WWE will probably announce the six competitors in the Intercontinental Title match to be held in the Elimination Chamber as well as what we expect to be the six teams in the Tag Team Title Elimination Chamber match as well.
For the Intercontinental Title match, no names have been officially announced, although some of the rumored participants are Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, King Barrett and Neville. They could add Ryback and Bray Wyatt to it so that they would have three Payback feuds as a part of the Chamber match. This month is full of WWE special events. On Sunday night it’s the annual May pay-per-view event (also on WWE Network) called Payback. Then on Wednesday May 20 it’s one of the four Nxt two hour live specials on WWE Network and this one is called Nxt Takeover: Unstoppable. This past Monday WWE announced another May special event that is exclusive to WWE Network that is called Elimination Chamber.
The question today is what one of these three events do you care about the most? Here’s a quick overview of the three shows.

Payback on May 17
With a headline match of Seth Rollins defending the WWE Title against Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Dean Ambrose there’s a chance that could be an outstanding match to end the night.

WWE Survivor Series 2014 was an event that showed it was time for a product refresh. This was probably why the big story for the pay-per-view was Vince McMahon pitting Team Authority vs Team Cena in battle with the tease that we would see the downfall of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon… surely that couldn’t happen could it? (insert knowing wink here)
As usual when a pay-per-view like WWE Survivor Series 2014 starts with a tag team match this is one of the quality fights of the card. In a Fatal 4-Way match between Goldust & Stardust vs. The Usos vs. Los Matadores vs. The Miz & Mizdow the teams did their usual spots and even came up with a good ending. 2014 saw a strong year for the tag team division and this was a match that showed just why, surely WWE can’t mess that up can they?
It may seem unfair...

Nxt, arguably WWE’s brightest spot during the past several months, will move its weekly program on the WWE Network to Wednesdays next week. The move coincides with Smackdown transitioning back to Thursdays, where Nxt has aired for nearly its entire run on the Network.
As part of the move to Wednesday, it was announced Thursday that Nxt will hold three huge matches, including an Nxt Championship rematch between champ Sami Zayn and former title-holder Adrian Neville. The two tore down the house and had a match of the year contender at Nxt Takeover: [R]Evolution last month. Although they probably won’t get the same amount of time that they did for the two-hour special event – Nxt is an hour-long program – odds are that Zayn and Neville will deliver a must-see match.
Also announced Thursday, Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey will finally square off in the ring.

Kevin Steen was one of the big international free agents that WWE signed this summer. They brought in Japanese superstars Kenta and named him Hideo Itami in Nxt. Tonight is a big night for WWE’s developmental territory, Nxt. The Takeover: Fatal 4 Way event will be just the third special event broadcast exclusively on the WWE Network. While the Network has had its fair share of critics since its debut, everyone seems to agree that Nxt is a great product and thrilling program. Tonight, the developmental territory looks to up the ante with every title on the line.
Furthermore, it was already announced that international sensation, Kenta, will be making his debut on Nxt programming — albeit in a non-competitive role. The Japanese superstar was to be introduced to the Nxt audience by “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, however, reports are coming in that Flair has pulled out of the event due to a supposed “personal conflict.” Still, Kenta is scheduled to make his first official appearance on a WWE program during this evening’s Takeover event.

The third WWE Nxt two hour special airs this Thursday night September 11 on WWE Network. It’s being called Nxt TakeOver II or Nxt Takeover: Fatal 4-Way because that’s what the main event is. We’ll roll with the Nxt Takeover II name because if they’re going to keep calling their specials that then they might as well number them.
There are five matches announced for Nxt Takeover II. Here’s the lineup:
– Mojo Rawley vs. Bull Dempsey
– Enzo Amore vs. Sylvester Lefort in a Hair vs. Hair match
– Nxt Tag Team Titles: The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) vs. Kalisto and Sin Cara
– Nxt Women’s Title: Charlotte vs. Bayley
– Nxt Title: Adrian Neville vs. Sami Zayn vs. Tyler Breeze vs. Tyson Kidd in a Fatal 4-Way match
In addition to those five matches, Ric Flair will be on hand to welcome Nxt’s newest superstar Kenta.

WWE has recently made a handful of exciting new talent signings. It seems the company has actively sought out new and fresh performers to add to their roster. Many of these new talents do not seem to fit the typical WWE mould, but should have no problem adapting to their new environment.
The most highly touted new signee is Kenta. The Japanese superstar officially signed his contract with the promotion during a live event in Osaka, Japan. Hulk Hogan was present for the event, hyping Kenta’s historic signing and posing for photos with the international star. Since then, more international and independent stars have joined the ranks of the WWE, such as Fergal Devitt, Kevin Steen, and the most recent addition, Willie Mack.

WWE’s second Nxt special, titled Takeover, is officially in the books. The event will likely be considered a huge success by many as most of the matches outperformed expectations.
The show featured three title matches, a No. 1 contender match and a singles match featuring Adam Rose and Camacho. The two champions defending their titles walked out still holding the gold, while Charlotte defeated Natalya in the final round of a tournament to crown a new Nxt Women’s champion.
It would be hard for anyone to pick the match of the night with some of the amazing performances we witnessed, but the match that probably surprised most of the viewers was the clinic put on by Charlotte and Natalya in their title bout. Bret Hart and Ric Flair were at ringside, but all eyes were on the women in the ring who were killing it in every possible way.

The Nxt Takeover event aired on WWE Network on Thursday night. It was a two hour event without commercials. The show took place at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida and featured a mix of Nxt stars along with main roster performers. Here’s a rundown of everything that happened with some quick thoughts on all the matches.
Adam Rose d. Camacho
The crowd loved Rose because they’ve seen him on Nxt for a while. They chanted all his catchphrases. The Raw and Smackdown crowds don’t react the same way to him. It was an easy win for Rose after five minutes of action.
The Ascension d. Kalisto & El Local in a Tag Team Title Match
Even though they’re heels the fans were into everything The Ascension. Kalisto & El Local look like they didn’t really belong. In case you’re wondering, El Local is actually Ricardo Rodriguez in a mask.

We’re just one week away from Payback. Matches have been made between The Shield and Evolution, Rob Van Dam and Bad News Barrett, and John Cena and Bray Wyatt. More matches are sure to be announced this week. But perhaps one of the most important things to happen in WWE this week has nothing to do with Payback.
Nxt Takeover is live on the WWE Network this Thursday, and a number of big matches will take place. And this past week, some of the things you may not have seen directly affect the Takeover card. The Diva’s of Nxt also make a couple of appearance on this list. Read on to see what else you might have overlooked this past week.
