The player character mistakes Taipu for Hafu when she meets him, which makes Taipu upset. This is a reference to the original Mata Nui Online Game (2001), in which the developers accidentally switched Taipu's and Hafu's masks around.
The player character, Hahli, was first introduced in the 2002 online web-episodes on the official BIONICLE website. She became one of the more popular characters of the brand, landing a role in Bionicle: Mask of Light (2003) as an important supporting character, and also playing a role in later story.
The game was originally released on LEGO's website in 2003, but was taken down the following year. They later made the game available again as a "Kanoka Club" exclusive, which people could download by gathering points on the website. However this version of the game was missing some key files and contained numerous bugs and glitches that made it virtually unplayable, as many sections of the game either caused it to crash or couldn't be accessed anymore. Fans have patched up the game into a workable state by creating replacements for the missing files, and in 2023, all of the original files were finally recovered from the developers, making the game fully playable after two decades.
If you type the word "kapura", a box will appear showing the framerate. Pressing "8" on the number-pad will reload the scene that the player is in. This also fixes a number of glitches: for example, after completing the Kolhii game in Le-Koro, the player will remain stuck in the Kolhii field forever. But by pressing "8" just as the scene is about to cut, the scene will reload and the game can be continued.
Unlike in the previous game, all the characters here are given names. Most of these names come from various real languages (mostly Finnish, but some are Hawaiian, Japanese, Hungarian or Czech). They haven't been cleared through legal check and so LEGO cannot use them in any other official media, however they have been accepted into canon. Some of the characters introduced here have been released as toys in 2004, although often with the spelling of their names changed to avoid any legal troubles.
