The jump from first to second feature is often a tough one for acclaimed filmmakers to make, but for “It Comes at Night” writer and director Trey Edward Shults, it was a seamless one. His first feature, the festival hit “Krisha,” was made for a fraction of his second, the A24-financed horror offering “It Comes at Night,” but one personal vision led directly to the other — literally, as A24 picked up the rights to the new project at the same time that it acquired his debut. The only difference on the second time around was money.
“Now we have an actual budget,” Shults said, laughing during a recent interview as he considered his progress. “It’s not at my mom’s house. It’s not with my family, though I brought as many friends as I could. It’s all funded from a studio.”

20th Century Women, now playing in limited release, is named after its complicated women. There are three of them to be exact played by Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning. To the movie's great credit, the two male characters are no less fascinating. Take note, men: while the men have their own distinct characters, half of the reason they're so interesting is their empathy and curiousity about the women they share their lives with. One of the guys is a teenager just getting started in life (Lucas Jade Zumann) and eager to soak it all in. The film's quietest character is William (Billy Crudup). He's moving into middle age but headed nowhere in particular; the women have always come to him but he still doesn't know where he's going.

She's back! Renée Zellweger is still the Bridget Jones we know and love and occasionally pity, even a dozen years after we last saw her in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." The new trailer for "Bridget Jones's Baby," which comes out this fall, starts with a reminder of Bridge's usual drama, playing "All By Myself," until the fed-up singleton tells the music to "f--k off."
So, yeah, it's kind of a Nsfw trailer in that way, but otherwise it's back to the usual storyline of Bridge choosing between two hot men, one of them being the obviously perfect Mark Darcy played by the still obviously perfect Colin Firth. This time, she also has a new Prince Charming -- they even have a Cinderella slipper moment in the trailer -- in Jack Qwant, played by Patrick Dempsey.
One of the guys is the father of her soon-to-be-born baby. Which guy?...

It was the summer of 1995. Bill Clinton was president, Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York, and Oj Simpson was on trial. That summer’s youth-oriented movies included Pixar's first movie Toy Story, the Disney musical Pocahontas — and Kids, in which wayward, stoned teens fuck each other senseless and head-stomp random strangers.
It might be hard to remember just how notorious Larry Clark's indie-skater odysey was. The movie grossed a modest $7 million at the box office that summer — a wild success when you account for the fact that it...

The 1994 Royal Rumble was truly a new era in WWE because Hulk Hogan was gone and it was the time to create some new stars.
One of the guys that was left to carry the torch was Lex Luger or at least he tried. Luger debuted as the heel Narcissist one year earlier. That gimmick was a major flop. In the summer of 1993, he turned into the All-American Lex Luger that was positioned as the next Hulk Hogan. He got a WWE Title match at Yokozuna at SummerSlam, beat him by countout and failed to win the WWE Title. It showed that WWE didn’t want to go all the way with Luger, but he still went into the 1994 Rumble as a favorite to win.
The other contender going into the Rumble match was Bret Hart, who was a former WWE Champion that was trying to get back to that level again.

"Excalibur" was a formative theatrical experience for me. It was one of the first R-rated films I specifically decided I wanted to see in a theater. I'd seen other R-rated films before that, but always at random and because someone else decided I was going to see it. With "Excalibur," I was crazy to see it, and the film landed on me like a ton of bricks. Surreal, violent, beautiful, explicit, and for a mythology nut, seeing how the film dealt with each of the characters, each of the Arthurian archetypes, I was in love. One of the guys who made an impression in the film was a young Liam Neeson, and for the rest of the '80s, he racked up a number of performances where, good film or bad, he made an impression. How could he not? No one else looked like him. Slightly over eight feet tall,...
