When Brokenwood was first shown on TV, I didn't watch all of it because I wasn't a fan of episode one. Which was a mistake, because that episode - like many first episodes of any series - is not the best one. Obviously it is hampered by having to set everything up, plus IIRC (I haven't watched it since) it doesn't have the humour that comes to be a HUGE feature and selling point of all the other episodes.
It starts to emerge in this second episode and just gets better.
If I have one criticism of this particular episode, it's the failure to show the detectives (& everyone else tbh) realising that the wine maker Amanda is not just rude or weird, she clearly has some form of what most people think of as autism. Now I do know that's a very blunt, broad or poor description and for all I know she's really *badly* written, but it ought to be obvious to all of them in this day and age that there's more going on with her.
There are better episodes to come, but this one is where the improvement starts.
