Five weeks after it unveiled a quintet of fresh pilots and asked for feedback from its viewers, Amazon Studios has green-lit two new shows. It has announced full seasons of psychological drama Hand of God and 80s period comedy Red Oaks. Hand of God will be the third hour long series Amazon has picked up. Directed by Marc Forster, it stars Ron Perlman as a corrupt judge. Red Oaks, meanwhile, provides much lighter fare. Produced by Steven Soderbergh and directed by David Gordon Green, it is a coming-of-age story set at a country club in the 80s. The cast includes a number of familiar faces, including Paul Reiser and Richard Kind. "We are excited to get working on full seasons of Hand of God and Red Oaks," said Roy Price, VP of Amazon Studios, in a release. "These shows come from some of the most talented creators in the business.

Well, this looks a lot more promising than the crop of Amazon shows we were asked to vote on last year (cough, Zombieland cough). Currently up on Amazon for free is the pilot episode to Hysteria, a proposed new series starring Mena Suvari. You know the drill, if you watch it, you vote on it and then Amazon decides whether to take it to series or not.
In Hysteria, "a haunted young doctor who is summoned back to her hometown to investigate an epidemic that may be linked to social media - and her own tragic past."

A group of teens in a small Texas town suffer from unexplained seizures, which begin to spread to the wider population. A neurologist (played by Mena Suvari) returns home to investigate the medical mystery, only to suspect that the affliction is being spread through social media.
If it sounds far-fetched, even Mashable warns that the pilot “will make you incredibly paranoid.”
In this behind-the-scenes video, show creator Shaun Cassidy (Invasion) and Suvari explain what inspired them to make Hysteria, a drama that “combines the contagion thriller with the Internet paranoia thriller,” according to the New York Times.
Will it make you step away from Facebook? See for yourself by watching the pilot.

Hysteria, Season 1, Episode 1: “Pilot”
Written by Shaun Cassidy
Directed by Otto Bathurst
Released August 28, 2014 by Amazon
A veteran of television writing, and known mostly for having created the ABC science fiction drama Invasion, Shaun Cassidy’s next foray to the small screen comes courtesy of Amazon. Titled Hysteria, the series follows a medical investigator in Austin as she attempts to understand the cause behind a series of seizures and spasmic movements affecting a group of largely unrelated individuals. With Mena Suvari in the lead role, Amazon and the creators have released the pilot online in an attempt to get a series greenlight. Unfortunately, poor characterisation and a simplistic mystery at its core dooms this pilot by seemingly promising a dull show.
One of the key problems with this pilot, and potentially with the series as a whole, is that the central...

Believe it or not, films and television programmes added to Netflix and Amazon do have a tendency to expire and no longer be there after a while; this isn’t as publicised as when the titles in question are added though. So by the time you read this there are around 50 titles disappearing from Netflix.
If you have ever wanted to watch the 2002 version of The Count of Monte Cristo then you have probably missed your chance by now. What this does mean however is that probably next week Netflix will have added a whole raft of new stuff, I say new but it will probably be a mixture of catalogue and stuff from the last year. I know that the underrated Enders Game and the superior Hunger Games: Catching Fire is due there in September, I just don’t know when.

Amazon keeps accelerating the pace and output of its "pilot season" process. The original batch of Amazon pilots were presented to the public in April of last year; of those, only "Alpha House" (which got renewed for a second season) and "Betas" (which remains in limbo) got picked up. The second batch of pilots were unveiled less than a year later, and Amazon ordered almost all of them — other than "Rebels," the pro football comedy that no one seemed to like — to series. That was in February, and while none of those new shows has debuted — "Transparent," the best of the bunch, will premiere all of its episodes, Netflix-style, on September 26 — Amazon yesterday unveiled its third pilot season, even as there's already news about casting for the fourth wave of Amazon pilots. At this rate, they may be ordering some shows before a word's even been written, and traveling back...

Determined to be the next Netflix, Amazon is continuing its original programming plans with the company's third wave of TV pilots now available.
Five shows are in contention: Whit Stillman's Paris-set "The Cosmopolitans" starring Adam Brody and Chloë Sevigny; Marc Forster's "Hand Of God" starring Ron Perlman and Dana Delaney; the Mena Suvari-led medical drama "Hysteria"; David Gordon Green's coming of age comedy "Red Oaks", and Jay Chandrasekhar’s laugher "Really".
All five are available for viewing through Amazon’s Prime Instant Video in the U.S. and UK. Viewers can weigh in with opinions on which shows should be made into Amazon Original Series. Here's the sizzle real for all five:
This follows on from the first pilot wave of which only "Alpha House" and "Betas" made it to series and neither of which has made much impact. The second wave of pilots took place...

Not so long ago, reality TV promised us that anyone could be a famous singer,
or chef, or alligator wrestler, or Amish craftsman. Now it’s not enough to be onscreen talent: We want to be development execs, too.
We have that chance with Amazon presenting its third round of pilots, which can be found on Amazon Instant Video. Viewers can watch, rate, and review the five new shows, and their feedback will help the streaming site decide which pilots to pick up as original series. (Last time around it ordered six series, including Chris Carter’s The After and Jill Soloway’s Transparent.
