- After not hearing from Pete, McQuade goes to Auggie's apartment looking for them both. He finds Auggie's watch in the alley and places and urgent call to Joan.
Essen, Germany
Olga explains that she's working outside of FSB to take out Balenko because FSB didn't listen when she warned them about him. She has the same idea as Annie about following him to Frankfurt for his meeting with Shumer.
In Langley, Joan is upset to learn about the op Auggie was running with Annie and McQuade, but McQuade points out Auggie brought it to her first and she rejected it.
From satellite footage, they ID one of the men who jumped Auggie as Alan Langer, a former McQuade operative. They track their kidnap van and head there with a tactical team. They find the van empty and a body in the river nearby. It's Pete.
Joan assesses the cargo ship nearby and deduces the kidnappers put Auggie on a boat.
From Frankfurt, Annie leaves Auggie a message when she can't reach Joan or Ryan. She and Olga stake out the hotel and find Brian Shumer, an American former neurologist, meeting him. Annie finally gets McQuade's call.
Annie tells Olga she wants to capture Balenko for information instead of killing him. Annie theorizes that Balenko is meeting with Shumer because of the tremor in his hand. Annie approaches Shumer.
At Langley, Ryan remembers an operation his company ran for the DOD for which they used human smugglers for their operatives, including Alan Langer. He leaves to follow up those contacts. Joan has Arthur and a team combing for a connection to explain Balenko going after Auggie.
Calder wants to use Mashkov's FSB's connections via Stephanie the escort.
In Frankfurt, Shumer explains he's treating Balenko for a neurological disease similar to ALS. He lost his license for prescribing drugs before they were approved for market. He injects Balenko regularly to suppress his symptoms. Annie tells Shumer to knock him out instead.
In a hotel suite, Shumer switches out Balenko's medicine as they wait for him to arrive.
Calder meets with Stephanie and gives her a listening device to slip into Mashkov's clothes.
Ryan drives to the port and bribes a longshoreman for information on where to find his contact.
In the hotel room after their session together, Stephanie has to scramble to place the bug on Mashkov's suit when he skips his usual post-sex shower.
In Frankfurt, Annie sets up cameras in Balenko's hotel suite. She'll come in from the room next door once Shumer has him knocked out.
With Balenko in the room, he notices Shumer looking nervous and attacks the former doctor instead. Annie rushes in from next door and jabs the needle in Baleko's neck. He fights back until the drugs kick in.
His two goons pound on the door to get in, but Olga shoots them from the hallway then joins Annie. They haul him out of the hotel in a laundry cart and put him in a trunk. Annie has to stop Olga from shooting him but they drive off.
Meanwhile in DC, Mashkov is grabbed off the street. Calder follows and he and Joan go in to interrogate him. Calder threatens to tell the FSB he's been selling secrets to the CIA.
In Frankfurt, Annie questions Olga's strong personal motivation for wanting to kill Balenko. Balenko tried to recruit her while she was at the FSB and she reported him to her bosses. A few days later, her husband turned up dead. Annie promises Olga she can have Balenko as soon as they're done with him.
Olga and Annie drag Balenko to a safe house Olga knows about. Olga grabs a hammer, pliers and other torture tools. When Balenko doesn't talk for Annie, Olga privately asks to take over, saying that if Annie thinks she'll kill him, maybe he will, too.
In Baltimore, McQuade finds the smuggling contact he was looking for, Danny Vostiss. He points out how easily he found him and threatens to go after his family.
In Frankfurt, Olga breaks Balenko's finger and drives a rod through his hand, wrenching it around. Balenko tells Olga he killed her husband himself and taunts her about it. While Annie goes to take a call from McQuade about Vostiss, Olga whacks Balenko on the shoulders with a wrench.
McQuade tells Annie that Alan Langer's plans changed and he arrived in Frankfurt 30 minutes ago. He tells Annie to relocate. As Olga is beating Balenko, she notices a tracking device fall out of his mouth. A bullet flies through the safe house window and men come in the door, incluyding Langer. He shoots Olga in the stomach. Annie helps her out and lets Alan have Balenko. Annie leaves blood on the elevator button as the two women take shelter in a neighbor's apartment.
Balenko leaves, but Annie notices how badly Olga is wounded. Olga dies as Annie is assuring her she'll get Balenko.
Annie checks in with Calder and Joan. They learned that Mashov is from Grozny, Chechnya, which is where Alan Langer was headed before he diverted to Frankfurt. Auggie's unit was deployed to Grozny on several occasions. Joan wants to contract Annie for the mission. McQuade flies to meet her.
Meanwhile, in the middle of nowhere by a train track, Alexander Balenko joins Auggie and explains that Auggie has something he wants. Balekno's goons, including Alan Langer, drag Auggie into a building surrounded by rubble and ruin.
