What do a comedy, sci-fi, and fantasy film have in common? In this case, they all masterfully use Olivia Rodrigo’s pop rock ballad “Brutal” to set the tone for a shake-up that’s about to come.
Known for her angsty breakup anthems, Rodrigo blew up with the release of her 2021 debut single “drivers license,” which had everyone and their mothers belting the lyrics. It didn’t take long before it felt like Rodrigo was everywhere. And she is — literally. The pop star kicked off her first arena world tour earlier this year to promote her second studio album, Guts. And you may have heard a few of her hits right here on Netflix.
So grab your tissues and your favorite snacks, and sink your teeth into these films and series featuring songs by Rodrigo.

The recently released Netflix series, 3 Body Problem, has taken the internet by storm. Whispers of its greatness have been heard in all corners of Hollywood and it has done an excellent job adapting from its source material, a 2008 book of the same name written by Cixin Liu. However, when words on paper are turned into something like action, plot lines are bound to get changed and things get lost in translation.

Although the series was heavily praised for its loyalty to the book, there were some major changes made to it in regards to the story, especially on the global scale. While the creators made such a change to introduce a bigger playing field for story-telling, one country has become quite upset with how it was portrayed.

Scripted formats were placed front and center of BBC Studios’ panel at Series Mania, as the Doctor Who seller confirmed it is making up to three more versions of Ghosts and has bought Spain’s Brutal Media.
One of the hit BBC show’s creators, Simon Farnaby, recently told a podcast the show – which has achieved smash ratings on CBS in the U.S. – is being remade in Germany and Spain.
Matt Forde, who runs BBC Studios Global Entertainment, confirmed “there are two or three other versions in the works.”
“We love those shows and love the UK versions,” said Forde. “We are finding ways into these worlds in local creative communities.” Ghosts was recently renewed for a fourth CBS season, although the BBC version has ended.
Deadline revealed recently that BBC Studios’ deal with Lionsgate, which spawned the likes of Ghosts, had elapsed, but Forde was bullish about the scripted formats game.

Olivia Rodrigo was always an arena-selling artist. The opening night of Guts World Tour was proof of it.
On Friday night, at Palm Springs, California’ Acrisure Arena, Rodrigo cemented her position in pop culture as a generation-defining artist. As a rockstar. And as an energy-filled idol that is only just beginning her career.
Welcomed by a roaring audience of lavender-dressed kids, Gen Z’eers, gays, and cool moms, Rodrigo took the stage in a sparkly silver two-piece for “Bad Idea Right” following an intro that brought the Guts album cover art to life.

Karan Johar Gets Brutally Trolled As He Praises Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal ( Photo Credit – Instagram; IMDb )
Karan Johar was recently part of a roundtable of directors where he totally obsessed over Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Animal. While he established Ranbir Kapoor as the best actor in the country, he could not help but flatter Sandeep with his comments on the film.
Talking about Animal, KJo did not worry about what people would think of him for liking such a film. But he certainly is in love with the film as he could not stop praising Reddy’s conviction to make a film like this.
Talking on the Galatta Plus pan-India roundtable, the filmmaker said, “I felt something is wrong with me, something is wrong with him (Vanga), but something put together is very right about this film. You can debate about it, you can debate the politics, the scenes,...

Olivia Rodrigo knocked it out of the park on her first try, with her instant classic of a debut, Sour. So expectations have been sky-high for her next move. But the suspense is over: Her excellent new Guts is another instant classic, with her most ambitious, intimate, and messy songs yet. Olivia’s pop-punk bangers are full of killer lines (“I wanna meet your mom, just to tell her her son sucks”), but she pushes deeper in powerful ballads like “Logical.” All over Guts, she’s so witty, so pissed off,...

That three out of the Top 13 best Filipino Films listed by Asian Movie Pulse from the period of 70s to 80s were directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya already speaks volumes of her singularity as a filmmaker. Discomfiting, dissenting, disturbing are just some of the characteristics that could describe her body of work, but they could also just be characterized by this statement: death to the patriarchy.
This, and shame to women's own internalized misogyny. Abaya was inexorably critical of enablers even before this word became ubiquitous in contemporary online spaces, exposing the chain of relations and connections which destroy, downplay and dilute a woman's identity. Concomitant to this is her questioning of false dichotomies and relentless encouragement to go beyond convenient labels, an audacious and necessary pursuit which she did in films that pushed the Filipino to question dominant and trite narratives about his own history.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s approval ratings in the US took a tumble after South Park aired a parody of the royal couple.
In the controversial recent episode of the adult animated series, the Duke and Duchess are mocked with a series of jokes that some viewers described as “brutal”.
Markle herself was said to be “upset” by the show’s content, which centres on a satire of the pair’s recent public comments about invasions of their privacy.
However, a representative for Harry and Markle denied reports that they were considering a lawsuit against South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, calling the speculation “nonsense”.
Now, a new survey conducted by market research firm Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek states Prince Harry’s overall US approval rating sank by three points to hit -10 since the episode aired, while Markle’s sits at -17.

This article contains spoilers about "Knock at the Cabin."
We all know that there's no such thing as a 1:1 adaptation. Even something like Zack Snyder's "Watchmen," which brings exact panels to life complete with the original comic book dialogue, futzed with the ending. There are still some comic book fans who are angry about the lack of giant squid to this very day.
It's to be expected that any adaptation is going to come with some changes. Reading a book is different from watching a movie, after all, and a good screenwriter will know when to change things up for a visual storytelling medium and when the original text had it right. Steve Desmond, Michael Sherman, and M. Night Shyamalan's take on Paul Tremblay's "The Cabin at the End of the World" is very faithful ... until it isn't. And then it very much changes the core...

The cast includes John-Paul Foliaki (Popstars), Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi (Panthers), Ilaisaane Green (Brutal Lives), Onetoto Ikavuka, Mikey Falesiu (Toke), Lupeti Finau, Lotima Pome’e (Under the Vines) and Haanz Fa’avae-Jackson (Savage).

The TV personality and chef shared an update on his cancer diagnosis during a chat with on-screen partner Si King.
“It’s the beard I miss, though,” Myers said during an episode of his podcast Agony Uncles, adding: “I was born with that beard.”
He added: ”I just miss having my beard – the feeling of it, because your skin’s different and all peachy. No, I want my beard back. I’m alright with my hair – I think the bald head and beard’s the way to go for a biker.”
He added that he’s “doing Ok under the circumstances”.
Myers first revealed his diagnosis on the podcast in May, telling listeners he would be taking a step back from filming and attending food festivals throughout the summer.

Taylor Hawkins’ 16-year-old son stole the show at the late drummer’s tribute concert.
On Saturday (3 September), Dave Grohl united numerous musicians for a six-hour fundraiser at London’s Wembley Stadium in honour of his former Foo Fighters bandmate.
Among those to perform were Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher, Queen and Mark Ronson.
However, it was Hawkins’ son Oliver Shane Hawkins who impressed those in attendance, as well as those watching along at home, the most. He sat in his dad’s spot to drum for Foo Fighters song “My Hero”.
The performance was accompanied by images of Oliver and his dad on the screen behind.
Hawkins died in March, aged 50. He was found in a hotel room in Colombia, and the cause of death was ruled as cardiovascular collapse .
Oliver was praised for “crushing” the performance, with many agreeing that he had the “same energy” as his dad.

The most recent arrived on Friday night, as the 19-year-old pop star was photographed leaving Electric Lady Studio in New York City.
Rodrigo was rocking a pleated red plaid miniskirt showing off plenty of leg and a bedazzled black t-shirt with cap sleeves. On her feet, she had black combat boots, adding to her pop-punk look.
The singer also had several long braids done in her hair, with one visibly falling down her side in one of the photos (below).
She carried a small black bag with her, which she clutched by her side as she walked down the street.

BTS rocked the audience with a secret-agent-themed performance of "Butter" at Sunday night's Grammys. Putting on a full production, V, Suga, Jimin, Jungkook, Rm, and J-Hope - minus Jin, who stayed seated for most of the performance - danced their way through a laser security system like true spies on a mission. V took on the role of spy-movie protagonist and made sure to set the mood as soon as the stage lit up. Dressed in a sleek black suit, he dropped down from the ceiling on a rope before he strolled into the audience to flirt with Olivia Rodrigo.

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, the streaming service released the first teaser for its TV adaptation of Lois Duncan's 1973 suspense novel. And much like its predecessor, the 1997 film of the same name, the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, which premieres Oct. 15, takes the terror from Duncan's hit book and places it among the youthful generation of today. Olivia Rodrigo has reunited with Petra Collins for the “Brutal” video, the opening track to her album Sour.

She pouts on Instagram live, stands on top of high school desks, and sings from a dark, closed mall. Sadly, she does not parallel park.
