Here comes the darkness
A_Different_Drummer14 August 2015
Consider this review in counterpoint to the current Mutal Admiration Society.

It's all about endorphins.

Even the best producers and writers (and this show has both) eventually reach a point where they have to up the ante to maintain the viewer's "Jones" with their product.

And this year marks that descent into deep darkness for POI.

Nothing new about this if you are a student of TV. Buffy season I was all sunshine and outdoor scenes. The bad guys (vampires) were dispatched but everyone was having fun along the way, including the audience. By Season 3 however it was an entirely different show.

Ditto Smallville. Season I was about high school. sports, meeting people. There was sunshine. There was joy. Then came the darkness. Still great TV. But it was never quite the same.

POI began with a distinctly TBAA twist. Every week we save a new innocent. A little repetitious but brilliantly produced. And fun was had by all.

Not anymore. The darkness has finally arrived. The fans, most of whom are addicted and don't know it, will stay loyal. But they will have to watch darker and darker episodes to get the endorphins they crave.

Still a great production. But the sunshine has left the building.

And I for one will miss it.

I'd rather find my own fortune than rely on an AI thank you!

Warning: Spoilers
After last week's huge brain teaser of an episode, we get another of similar vein but with more resolution: namely an answer to what the hell happened to Shaw? (she is alive for one which actually makes the situation worse as she is probably gonna be used for some pretty nefarious stuff). - The intriguing plot of the hour was the ant farm/Maple and Samaritans use of the town as a study device on humans…eek! (Glad I'm living in a city that's financially stable and doesn't rely too much on one particular industry). Compare Samaritans brutal education to the Machine' more peaceful apprenticeship with Harold on the intricacies of human behavior and we have the crux of this whole big shebang. - The Fusco/Silvia case was well done, giving some much needed focus on Fusco & more intriguingly on Silvia who might continue to be in the picture given that Root looks temporarily out of the picture. - Worth repeating: Amy Acker/Root has been the MVP for much of the past 5 episodes with the occasional golden moment from Harold. All in all another excellent episode to cap what has been an outstanding Season 4.

One of the best in the season

Warning: Spoilers
Phenomenal character work. Amy Acker absolutely shines as Root, and we get to see she and John test the limits of Finch's morality. High concept plot, great side plot with Fusco, who is always a treasure when given time, and just a great look into the deeper motivations of our cast. I didn't much care for Root at the beginning, but they have done so much with her since then and I have to say this episode deserves so much more acclaim than it's received.

Nice plot but the action is getting stupid

OK, so the Maple-Ant-farm is a nice piece of plot. The microdots and brain-implants are somewhat predictable but OK. I've come to sort of accept Root as a ridiculous character so her insane focus on Shaw don't bother me as much as in the beginning.

My gripe now is that the action bits are going very dumb....well more dumb than before.

Lately every time any character fires a gun there's the target is not even in sight. Also, people regularly have an unending supply of clips. I don't expect ultra-realism here or even average realism but SOME realism would be nice!

Also, I wonder how Reese survived that bullet in his back from the (awesome) NYSE episode!

The Schrodinger Cat, The Experiment and the Hitman
claudio_carvalho7 March 2024
Finch believes Shaw may be in a refrigerated truck and Reese and Root head to the town of Maple, New York, last place where the vehicle was tracked down. They see a perfect small town and go to the police station to see the footage of the tollbooth. The Sheriff makes advances on Root and she abducts him. Reese and Root learn that a company called Carrow has bought the manufacturing plant of Maple and brought progress to the town manufacturing transponders. They look for Leslie Thompson, who seems to be the representative of Carrow in town, and abducts her to get inside the plant to see if Shaw is there. But soon they find what the plant is really manufacturing, and that Maple is submitted to an experiment of the Samaritan. Meanwhile, the Machine delivers the number of Albert Weiss, who owns a hardware store and occasionally travels to New York City. Fusco helps Finch following Weiss, and stumbles upon Dani Silva, who now works in the Gang Division. Fusco believes Weiss is a target based on his ordinary appearance, but she is focusing him for another reason, and he may be a perpetrator.

"M. I. A.", meaning Missing in Action, is another excellent episode of "Person of Interest". Reese and Root continue to search for Shaw, and they arrive at a perfect small town. They soon realize that the town is an experiment of the Samaritan to study human behavior and is also manufacturing neural implants. Now The Machine asks the team to stop searching Shaw. In the end, the box of the Schrodinger Cat is opened, and the viewer sees the fate of Shaw. The case of Fusco and Dani Silva is also great and well resolved. My vote is nine.

unbelievable.

Shaw been shot countless of times and now she appears to be alive? Perhaps in the the TV world that's the limit. Root has been a disaster since she was cast in POI , she's the failure of this whole series.
