The world of special effects makeup often feels like a dying art, with studios and streamers increasingly pursuing CGI and digital FX over practical artistry. Now, there is absolutely room for both styles and different films call for different methods, but gone are the days where the average moviegoer can recognize the name of a special effects makeup artist. Diehard fans are, of course, the exception to the rule, and there's at least one name that horror fanatics all know by heart and are stoked as hell to see on an end credits crawl: Steven Kostanski.

The marketing campaign for Deadpool & Wolverine went into high gear earlier this week when tickets went on sale, but there's still a huge amount we don't know about the movie.
While there are plenty of rumours out there, the trailers have only hinted at the threequel's Multiversal elements with glimpses of the Tva and The Void. Only time will tell whether Taylor Swift dazzles us and the original X-Men return, but at least one cameo has now been confirmed.
In the latest episode of FX's Welcome to Wrexham, Rob McElhenney visits Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool & Wolverine's set to film a cameo.
The actor hides his costume beneath a robe, but there's one shot (at the 2:04 mark) where we can quite clearly see the Time Variance Authority logo on his upper chest. Reynolds even hints that he's playing one of their agents, and it's confirmed here.

Deadpool & Wolverine "This Is Cinema" Promo Reveals New Footage From Wade Wilson And Logan's Team-Up
"This. Is. Cinema."
Marvel Studios has released a new promo for Deadpool & Wolverine which sees the Merc with the Mouth brace us for what's to come in the threequel.
Much of what he says appears to have been taken from the recent recording session Ryan Reynolds shared footage from, but there are some never-before-seen snippets of footage to be found here as well.
That includes a new look at Giant-Man's remains in The Void and a Paul Rudd joke previously only seen after fans recorded part of an IMAX-exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine sneak peek in theaters.
"If audiences feel one ounce of what I felt every day, which is, 'It's Wolverine and Deadpool,'" director Shawn Levy recently enthused. "It's these guys as their most legendary, iconic characters at the top of their game. Together, it's just...audience delight. I felt it every day at work."

Back in 1983, legendary producer Roger Corman brought the world a sword and sorcery film with an awesome title: Deathstalker. It was so successful, it paved the way for three sequels: Deathstalker II: Duel of the Titans (1987), Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell (1988), and Deathstalker IV: Match of the Titans (1991). The franchise went dormant for more than thirty years, but earlier this year we learned that it’s being revived by filmmaker Steven Kostanski – whose previous credits include Manborg, Father’s Day, The Void, Leprechaun Returns, Psycho Goreman, and episodes of the short-lived Day of the Dead TV series. Kostanski is writing and directing a Deathstalker remake that has Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick) on board to play the title character… and today, Variety has unveiled the first official image of Bernhardt in character! You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Produced by the late Roger Corman, the low budget sword and sorcery film Deathstalker was a hit in theaters back in 1983 and went on to become a cult classic through home video and TV airings, and it was followed by three sequels released between 1987 and 1991.
Decades later, Deathstalker will return with a fresh remake, and Variety has shared a first look image from director Steven Kostanski’s (The Void, PG: Psycho Goreman) new movie.
The website notes that the Deathstalker remake is now filming in Canada, with Raven Banner Entertainment launching sales in Cannes. Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick, Nobody, Barry) will star as the titular Deathstalker in what’s being described as “a newly reimagined installment of the cult sword and sorcery series of the same name.”

Raven Banner Entertainment has launched sales at the Cannes Film Festival’s market on the reboot of Roger Corman’s cult sword and sorcery film series, “Deathstalker,” which is currently shooting in Canada.
Daniel Bernhardt stars as the titular character in this reimagined instalment, directed by Steven Kostanski. Bernhardt plays a barbarian cursed by a magical talisman, leading him into conflict with a malevolent wizard and monstrous assassins.
The original “Deathstalker” films, produced by Corman in the 1980s, followed the success of John Milius’ “Conan the Barbarian.” Kostanski’s reboot focuses on the fantasy setting, utilizing creature suits, prosthetic FX make-up and stop-motion animation from his Action Pants FX shop, which recently completed work on upcoming horror-comedy “Frankie Freako,” which is also being sold by Raven Banner at Cannes.

Even before the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer dropped, it was common knowledge that a bunch of X-Men and other Marvel-related characters from Fox were slated to show up in the movie.
Elektra, played by Garner, was among the first confirmed cameos, marking her return since her standalone film in 2005. After that, reports surfaced about Dafne Keen reprising her role as X-23, and lately, Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum teased on social media that Tatum might finally step into the shoes of Gambit, especially after his standalone project got scrapped.
Many fans speculated that the multitude of cameos and character variants would simply be fan service and nostalgia, leading to a disappointing experience akin to last year’s ‘Flash.’ However, if the rumors hold true, Elektra, Gambit, and X-23 are poised to play substantial roles.

Even before the trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released we knew that several notable X-Men and characters from other Fox properties related to Marvel are going to make an appearance in the upcoming movie.
Garner’s Elektra was among the first cameos to be confirmed, she will be reprising her role for the first time since her standalone movie released in 2005. Following this confirmation, several sources reported that Dafne Keen will be reprising her role as X-23, and most recently, Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum hinted at their social media profiles that the latter will finally get the chance to play Gambit, following the cancelation of character’s standalone project.
Plenty of fans assumed that all those cameos and variants would be there for the sake of fan service and nostalgia, which would make for quite the unpleasant experience and the repetition of last year’s ‘Flash.’ But,...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is generating significant anticipation as one of the most exciting upcoming projects in the MCU. Scheduled for release in 2024, it’s already drawing praise from those who have seen previews, with expectations high for its impact on the franchise’s reputation.
As with any highly anticipated project, rumors abound regarding potential cameos, variants, and plot elements, with some confirmations, such as Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, and others still under speculation, supported by mounting evidence. To provide clarity, let’s explore the confirmed and rumored cameos and variants expected in the film.
Aaron Stanford – John Allerdyce/Pyro (Confirmed)
Aaron Stanford’s return was initially speculated, along with a few other minor X-Men villains, though his appearance was later confirmed in the trailer. While he only briefly appears on screen, his unmistakable costume leaves no doubt about his identity. Earlier this year, he had denied any involvement in the movie.

Just like a prayer, the latest trailer for the highly anticipated "Deadpool & Wolverine" arrived this morning, showing off even more of Wade Wilson's first entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If bringing the R-rated Merc with a Mouth into the Marvel Studios world wasn't enough, with all the naughtiness that entails, surely Hugh Jackman picking up Wolverine's claws again will seal the deal.
Of course, since "Deadpool & Wolverine" is bringing the characters from 20th Century Fox's universe of Marvel movies into the MCU, there are even more recognizable faces who will be popping up. Along with reports of Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra and the appearance of Pyro in the first trailer for the movie, the latest batch of footage shows off some returning characters from previous "X-Men" movies. Perhaps even more interesting is where those characters appear in the trailer, especially when it comes...

Up until recently I worked the night shift in a hotel, so I know how creepy it can feel at times, especially when you’re getting used to the place with all of the building’s odd little noises and quirks. That’s the position Gwen finds herself in.
Recently moved into the area and in need of money, she’s answered an ad for a temporary overnight position at the All Tucked Inn. The owner Teddy, who seems to be making his story up as he goes along, tells her the woman who regularly does the job has been sidelined with medical issues. He’d love to stay and help, but he has a date. But there’s nothing to worry about, this is a quiet, peaceful place where nothing ever happens.

The erratic Leprechaun franchise is not known for sticking with a single concept for too long. The namesake (originally played by Warwick Davis) has gone to L.A., Las Vegas, space, and the ‘hood (not once but twice). And after an eleven-year holiday since the Davis era ended, the character received a drastic makeover in a now-unmentionable reboot. The critical failure of said film would have implied it was time to pack away the green top hat and shillelagh, and say goodbye to the nefarious imp. Instead, the Leprechaun series tried its luck again.
The general consensus for the Leprechaun films was never positive, and the darker yet blander Leprechaun: Origins certainly did not sway opinions. Just because the 2014 installment took itself seriously did not mean viewers would. After all, creator Mark Jones conceived a gruesome horror-comedy back in the early nineties, and that format is what was expected of any future ventures.

Spiritbox have released the raging new song “Cellar Door” from their upcoming EP, The Fear of Fear, due out on Nov. 3 via Rise Records/Pale Chord.
Musically, the song is one of the heaviest Spiritbox tracks to date, with crushing guitars and thick sonics. Visually, the accompanying video is very Halloween-appropriate, with singer Courtney Laplante and company performing under a full moon.
The Fear of Fear follows the band’s acclaimed 2021 debut album, Eternal Blue, which established Spiritbox as one of metal’s rising acts. The EP also includes the previously released singles “The Void” and “Jaded.”
The Canadian act has spent much of this year on the road, touring in Europe and North America, including their first-ever US headlining tour, which was sold out. The band is currently wrapping up a tour with Shinedown and Papa Roach, with tickets to the remaining shows available here.

The Canadian act has spent much of this year on the road, touring in Europe and North America, including their first-ever US headlining tour, which was sold out. The band is currently wrapping up a tour with Shinedown and Papa Roach, with tickets to the remaining shows available here.

Ah, the 2010s! A decade where we were introduced to the “dab,” fidget spinners, and the horror of reading a text marked as “seen” with no reply. Okay, that last one still happens. But amidst the cultural phenomena, the world of horror cinema was cooking up some spine-tingling gems that many might’ve missed. For the brave souls who dare to venture beyond the mainstream, here’s a list of ten underrated horror movies from the 2010s that deserve more than just a passing glance.
FilmBuff 10. The Battery (2012)
Imagine a world overrun by zombies, but instead of the usual chaos, we get a bromance between two former baseball players. The Battery is less about the undead and more about the living, focusing on the dynamics between its two protagonists. It’s a refreshing curveball in the zombie genre, proving that there’s more to life (and death) than just survival.

Ooh, this is fun news. Production has wrapped on Frankie Freako, the next film from one of Canada's purest genre stars, Steven Kostanski. The director of PG: Psycho Goreman, The Void and Manborg, is now tackling the little monster horror-comedy genre. His new film stars one of his Astron-6 bretheren Conor Sweeney. They play a "workaholic yuppie Conor Sweeney whose perfect life is turned upside down when he accidentally unleashes a trio of tiny trouble-makers into his home". Manborg. Father’s Day. The Void. Leprechaun Returns. Psycho Goreman. There’s been a throwback element to all of the feature films we’ve gotten from director Steven Kostanski so far, and his next feature will be no different. Variety has confirmed that production has wrapped on Kostanski’s horror comedy Frankie Freako, which is said to be a “commemoration of various practical FX-led projects including Gremlins 2: The New Batch and Ghoulies Go to College“. Well, if you say your movie pays tribute to Gremlins 2 and Ghoulies 3, you’ve already sold me on it.
Shout! Studio holds the U.S. distribution rights to Frankie Freako, but release plans have not yet been announced.

Spiritbox have dropped a new one-off single titled “The Void” amidst their ongoing “Eternal Blue” North American tour.
Vocalist Courtney Laplante said the song “came about very quickly,” and it and sees the Canadian band delivering one of its leanest and most succinct tracks to date. Despite the sub-four-minute runtime, all of the Spiritbox signatures are here: winding prog passages, jittery math guitar theatrics, and, of course, Laplante’s dominant and melodic singing.
“I didn’t have to fight with anything to write it, and when that happens, I don’t argue with it,” she said in a press release. “It’s a type of song that I’ve been wanting to write for a long time, I’ve heard it hundreds of times now, and it makes me so happy every time I hear it. It’s been such an amazing experience playing this song on our tour, and...

As Michael B. Jordan stepped back into the role of Adonis Creed for “Creed III,” he also stepped into the directing ring for the first time. Also returning for the latest installment is cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau, who was tasked with framing the film’s epic boxing matches. Together, Jordan and Morgenthau worked to create the franchise’s most visually unique chapter to date.
Bookending the film are two brutal boxing matches that serve as pivotal moments in Adonis’s life and professional career — the first, Creed’s retirement fight in South Africa, and the last, his face-off against former childhood friend Damian “Dame” Anderson (Jonathan Majors) in Los Angeles. Those particular sequences are intended to show that there is more to the fights and the athletes than meets the eye. For Adonis, being in the ring gives him the opportunity to lay his demons to rest and find peace in his life.

Among the long history of boxing films, the “Creed” films have stood apart from their predecessors in the genre in how they shoot the action in the ring. In fact, as the new “Creed III” demonstrates, they even stand apart from each other.
“Creed III” sees series star Michael B. Jordan make his directorial debut with a threequel in which Adonis comes face-to-face with his childhood friend Damian (Jonathan Majors), a Golden Gloves-winning amateur boxer who went to jail for reasons not immediately revealed. Feeling that the success and opportunity Creed enjoys was taken from him, Dame’s initially warm reunion with the now-retired champion turns south, culminating in a deeply personal fight before a sold-out crowd at Dodger Stadium.
But after an initial exchange of haymakers between Creed and Dame, the fight abruptly transforms, plunging the two fighters and the audience into a surreal dream world. The thousands of...

Caleb McLaughlin was ready.
The Stranger Things star knew season four of the immensely popular Netflix series was going to be draining with the emotional weight his character would bear — but that also meant a deeply rich story for Lucas Sinclair.
The character would find himself in the middle of two high school worlds that were nothing alike: the jocks and his Dungeons & Dragons crew, aka The Hellfire Club. All the while, his lifelong pals again found themselves in a deadly battle with creatures from the Upside Down. And this time amid that conflict, it appeared Lucas was going to lose the person who has come to mean the most to him: Max (Sadie Sink), with whom he shares some of the sweetest and most devastating moments of the season and series.

Manborg: The Novelization Blasts Onto Bookshelves From Author Bret Nelson And Encyclopocalypse Publications: "Encyclopocalypse Publications, founded by Saturn and Rondo Award-winning writer/producer Mark Alan Miller is proud to add Manborg to its wildly addicting novelization series.
Manborg is penned by Bret Nelson (author of Lumber and Other Tales) from the original script by Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie.
“Whenever I read about the movie, Manborg, it is noted early and often that the team at Astron 6 managed to make it for 1,000 Cad. I’d rather note, early and often, that the budget limitations were overcome by the talent and tenacity of the filmmakers.” Nelson says. “Yes, it has a garage-band feel and it’s rough around the edges. This Outer Range article contains spoilers for episodes 1 and 2.
Amazon Prime Video’s Outer Range was created by Brian Watkins and stars Josh Brolin as family patriarch Royal Abbott, a Wyoming Rancher who discovers a mysterious and massive hole in the outreaches of his land that seems to defy the laws of physics.
The premiere features a narration in the booming voice of Brolin, describing the ancient Greek myth of Kronos (or sometimes ‘Cronos’), the youngest and leader of the mighty Titans, and eventual father of the pantheon of Gods including Zeus himself. It should be addressed that over the millenia, the mythos of Kronos has been confounded with another Greek deity, Chronos, who is the embodiment of time itself. Chronos has become synonymous with time in many different stories and legends, and eventually evolved into who many modern audiences know as ‘Father Time’. The showrunners of Outer Range seem...

In Prime Video’s new neo-Western Outer Range, a rancher’s family contends with gut-wrenching loss, financial troubles, hostile neighbors and alcoholism. But that’s not even the half of it.
Led by the sturdy Josh Brolin, the Abbott family struggles to move on following the disappearance of one of their own, until a mysterious sinkhole found by their patriarch Royal introduces them to a world of supernatural wonder and soon-to-be chaos. Add to that a covered-up murder plot and you’ve got a wild combo of Yellowstone meets Dark, with bits of Bloodline thrown in for good measure. Sound intriguing?...

Keira (Elisha Cuthbert) and Brian Woods (Eoin Macken) are masters at their craft. Their marketing firm has gone viral with campaigns that infiltrate the psychology of their audiences in ways few can—at least that’s what we’re supposed to glean from a crucial pitch (depicted with hollowly superficial ad-speak tropes) that will apparently “make or break” the company despite the couple having just moved their family to a giant Irish mansion on a whim. That last part doesn’t really scream “we’re one client away from bankruptcy,” does it? Writer-director Brendan Muldowney hopes we won’t look that closely, though. Their job and this sudden move are only meant to set up the horror to come courtesy an alchemy hotspot that serves as a mysterious gateway to Hell.

ITV Studios-backed Gameface’s IP including ITV format The Void and Britain’s Brightest Family will integrate with The Chase producer Potato’s roster, with Adler joining Potato creative directors Martin Scott and Phil Mount and reporting into Managing Director Michael Kelpie. Gameface is one of three subsidiary labels of Itvs-backed Cats on the Roof, with Crook Productions and Second Act Productions also set to close.
During his stint as Creative Director of Objective Productions, Adler created The Cube, which has sold to multiple territories including TBS in the US with Dwayne Wade hosting and was recently rebooted by ITV. He also created BBC1’s The Reflex and is a former Channel 4 Commissioning Editor, where he oversaw Derren Brown’s The Heist,...

So much so, that it’s been retooled over and over again in any setting and the idea never quite loses its urgency. John Carpenter did it in his own classic, “Assault on Precinct 13” and most recently everything from star-studded thrillers like “Bad Times at the El Royale” to low-budget affairs like “The Void” have had their spin.

John Oliver said goodbye to The Void – the little cartoon face that’s been the Last Week Tonight’s sole companion as the show has broadcast remotely during the Covid pandemic shutdown.
At the end of last night’s episode, Oliver announced that, following a two-week hiatus, he and the show will return to the studio on Sept. 17 – with or without a studio audience (that part hasn’t been determined yet).
HBO’s Last Week Tonight has remained one of the last late-night programs broadcasting from, as Oliver has called it, the remote “blank void” outside a studio.
In what looks to be his final encounter with the animated sidekick – eyes and a mouth floating like a ghost onscreen (and voiced by actor H. Jon Benjamin) – Oliver told a disappointed Void that their relationship had reached its conclusion. Reminding Oliver that “Conan got a song” when the TBS host recently...

Can you ever really go home? Millions of cinephiles are likely asking themselves this as summer 2021 winds down with doubt again lingering over their favorite movie houses. For a time, theaters were once again open for big business in the U.S. and UK, and remain so in at least one of those venues. But box office reports paint an ambiguous future, and many casual moviegoers clearly remain reluctant about returning to the cinema.
Nonetheless, it’s still good to be back in those old familiar places, as well as to have an ever expanding list of options to discover on streaming. Compared to last year, 2021 feels like a sunny balm, particularly now that the heaviest hitters and biggest surprises of July and the dog days of summer have landed.
