Wow. Last time I was here I was hopin' to get laid. Didn't quite work out that way. I did cut my own hand off with a chainsaw, though. Fun weekend.

Cabin in the woods. And to be back in the cabin is fun.

Lots of fun.

The only thing that could be said against this episode is that Ash's loneliness, which I expected to be longer and to bring us a showdown with his hand, is ended quite soon, as Amanda arrives to the cabin just seconds after he does. On the other hand (no pun intended), it was already there too and don't worry, it has something to say too. And to any fan, what it says may be the best it could say.

Apart from that...

Let's say that if you are watching Ash vs Evil Dead because of the movies you will have your good dose of nostalgia, not rose-tinted, more deep-red-tinted, and which is not just for the sake of it, but brings plot development. Ditching almost everything to center on Ash and the tricks the place plays on people is great. Quite a lot of things happen in this episode, and you will have everything, from a little bit dirty, to a little bit violent. The visit to the cabin actually brings focus and tension to the story, a sense of fulfillment, in some way, as Ash is back home. The atmosphere is the best since the show started and on top of the gore, action and humor, it brings a good dose of dread.

And it leaves two episodes to the mayhem to continue, as the last part of the episode lets everything ready for an amazing ending to the first season of Ash vs Evil Dead.

Back to where it all began.

Warning: Spoilers
I knew this episode was going to be fun right from the off: the opening scene in which Ash hurls a deadite bird against a tree is hilarious.

What really helps to make Ashes to Ashes so much fun for Evil Dead fans is setting the action on familiar ground, the cabin where, decades earlier, Ash first battled the deadites. There's so much here to enjoy: the swing seat coming to a stop as it did in the original film; the interior of the cabin, with its stuffed deer head, wall clock with pendulum, and ominous trap door; the tool shed which still has Ash's girlfriend's head clamped in a vice; and, of course, the dank, dark cellar.

Also adding to the fun is the appearance of an evil Ash clone, grown from the severed hand that Ash was forced to cut off with a chainsaw. The two Ashes have a fist fight, evil Ash tries to seduce Amanda, and Amanda chops off the clone's hand and dices it. Lots of blood and the death of a major character (since this one is mostly Ash and Amanda, it doesn't take a genius to figure out who).

I don't know who Tony Tilse is, but he did a great job directing... this is the best one yet.

8.5/10, rounded up to 9 for IMDb.

"I hope they don't die." "They're okay. They have pepper spray."

The eighth episode in this sadly short lived series packs a pretty hard punch, as it gets right down to business. Ash and company arrive at the isolated cabin (and work shed) where the whole sordid affair began many years ago. Ash had tried to go it alone, not wanting to get anybody else killed, but Amanda tracks him down. He ventures out to the work shed, to prepare, while she remains inside.

It's all about the thick and heavy atmosphere in 'Ashes to Ashes'. You really feel a sense of dread as the final showdown of this first season is almost underway. This episode has some great splatter and effects gags, but the "fun factor" is downplayed for some dead-serious moments. That's not to say that there is no humour: Pablo and Kelly encounter a trio of hikers in the woods. (Naturally, the audience is likely hoping that these incidental characters move on, knowing that would be the wise thing for them to do.) There are also surprises in store for the characters and the viewers alike, but they won't be spoiled here.

The scenario allows for some real poignancy, and ends on a cliffhanger. Both Bruce Campbell and Jill Marie Jones are wonderful, but Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo are seen only briefly. Lucy Lawless (a.k.a. Ruby Knowby) doesn't turn up at all.

The way that 'Ashes to Ashes' ends will have one eager to move on to the next episode.

Eight out of 10.

A good episode, very much a homage to EVIL DEAD 2 with a return to the famous cabin. They even keep the holes in the door the same which is a fine bit of continuity. Lots of gory mayhem, references, one-liners and crazed scenes keep this a superior episode.

Ash vs Ash Part 1
The-Social-Introvert30 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So in this episode we've returned to the infamous cabin in which the events of Evil Dean 1 & 2 took place. Whilst nostalgia is definitely present, the show-makers thankfully decide to leave it in the back seat and do not let it get in the way of the story.

I would be nice to have seen Ash alone in the cabin for a while longer than he was (I guess that is due to the show's runtime) before he is joined by Amanda. The two then (for Hollywood reasons) decide to split up and Ash is temporarily reunited with his ex-dead ex-deadite ex-girlfriend's head in the shed. Meanwhile Amanda has to deal with Ash's evil twin (!) who had somehow managed to grow from Ash's severed hand. Evil Ash, being evil, eventually kills Amanda after toying with her (by having her impaled with a prop deer's antlers. That was a pretty shocking moment. Wasn't expecting that. And neither was Ash… upon arriving back at the cabin the two share a heartfelt moment, a rarity for this show, before she snuffs it. Damn. I wasn't the biggest fan of her but it seemed her character was finally getting somewhere and then splat, which is clearly going to be heavy on Ash's back as he knew there was a high chance of his loved ones being killed. Shame. We never got to see her mamaries, either.

Overall this was one of the better episodes. The atmosphere was excellent and it was far closer in terms of quality to the first two episodes than any of the rest of the series.

The overall series sucks, except for this episode

Warning: Spoilers
Ash vs The Evil Dead has been a letdown. Just so you know where I'm coming from; I've seen all three Evil Dead films multiple times and even like the reboot/remake that came out back in 2013. I'm not saying I loved Evil Dead 2013 but I didn't rage hate it like most hardcore fans of the series. Anyway, like many I was pumped about Ash vs The Evil Dead. I would have preferred it if they just made another Evil Dead movie but you have to take what you get sometimes. I honestly gave the show a real shot. I watch up to episode 5 before I quit watching because the series is frankly lame. The 2 hipsters tagging along with Ash are so out of place it isn't even funny and takes you out of the show. Anyway a friend told me I really needed to watch episode 8, so I went back and continued the series where I left off and I'm so glad I did. I'm not sure if it was the magic of seeing Ash back in the cabin doing his thing or the fact the stupid takealongs weren't given much screen time but it was outstanding. Then I made the mistake of watching episodes 9 and 10. As you can guess, I will not be watching season 2. Evil Dead is finally dead to me. Just like Star Wars died after I watched the piece of sh&t that is The Force Awakens. That is all.

Once more into the cabin
Mr-Fusion14 October 2016
Man, I did not see that coming. 'Ashes to Ashes' holds some real surprises. For one, a more somber Ash returning to the cabin where all of this started. Two, the death of a fairly major character. I'm trying not to spoil anything, but just when I was staring to like him/her, y'know? It's a savage turn in an episode that offers a return to past haunts, and the first round of Ash's battle with . . . himself. If you're familiar with the movies, you can tell what that means, and Bruce is right at home with this brand of humor.

Good episode overall; creepy, shocking and hopefully we're building toward something great.
