The film is book-ended with title cards bearing H.P. Lovecraft quotes. The opening title is the beginning of Lovecraft's famous essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature": 'The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.' The closing title says,' For there the dark elements of strength, solitude, grotesqueness and ignorance combine to form the perfection of the hideous.'
There is a short scene after the main credits showing the Govlins snowboarding on the slopes of R'lyeh.
Another short scene shows a slightly older Howard, together with his self-appointed guardian Spot, sitting in Howard's study.
