Worth a look ! Really !
sergeboudin6 December 2016
First of all, I'm Belgian (french speaking), so sorry for my English ...

Really a good surprise ! This is a mini series with 3 episodes (not too short, not long for that kind of stuff) The series is about supernatural and mysterious theme. The plot line is really intriguing, and that's the reason why I've choose to watch it ! A lugubrious and heavy atmosphere during all the movie (each episode). The actors are corrects and did their jobs well.

The series does not really contain some action scene, so the tempo is overall slow, but that makes it possible to feel this claustrophobic atmosphere...

As I Said before, it worth a look and that's why i've decided to wrote that (first) review.

Lovely Foreign Series
areneehunt6 February 2018
Life is so bad for Lisa, she pretends to be married- even wears a fake wedding band. She lives in a small apartment and presses through life with what appears to be a dark future. Until she inherits a house from a man she's never known and has no familial connection. This is the introduction to Au Delà des Murs translated to Beyond the Walls. Picture This is a French mini-series, broken into three parts. It's part drama, horror and mystery, sharing a woman's life after dealing with a lifetime of guilt and depression. The story is dark and slightly depressing, but that quickly changed as you watch her discover the house is more than it appears.

This series is fascinating, sharing a horror that's more of an emotional haunt. You find yourself pulled in to the sense of loss and curiosity. After a while, if you're like me, you may even figure out what's going to happen, but that's okay. You will still watch, just to be sure.

Beyond the Walls is nicely written and probably would have just as good as a movie, but I don't know much about how the French do things. I do know that this show is beautiful and once you see the ending, you'll be like, "Awww... " in a good way.

French Mini-Series Worth The Viewing
SomaQuest14 October 2018
Topping in at a perfectly designed three episodes this French mini-serial is a cerebral circular trip into a dimensional rift in an abandoned mansion inherited by the lead character. Balanced dark and heartfelt storytelling combined with intellectual horror makes for a paced psychodrama.

Subtly directed and shot so as to not blatantly build up the viewer for a jump scare and patiently scored to achieve further of the same. Although not a fast-paced thriller or classic American horror film / series, Beyond The Walls delivers in a way that many local viewers may find boring or slow - not the case at all for those viewers who are more intellectually inclined to understand the horror genre is not only jump scares and slashers.

A recommended binge watch when you have a few hours laid up on the couch or stuck in transit.

A mystery wrapped up in an enigma
svonsawilski5 June 2017
Beyond the Walls a French serial film is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma of epic proportions. The story line unfolds for the main characters, Lisa, Julian and Sophie in ways that seem to teeter on the edge of horror making it a thriller. To reveal bonds in relationships which interconnect and satisfies the yearnings of the soul. Restoring faith in humanity.

Well Crafted Mystery
Tweetienator24 May 2019
Au-delà des murs/Beyond the Walls is a nice French mini-series with a surreal feeling and a light touch of horror - a hidden mysterious world lies behind the walls of an abandoned house and our heroin got to explore this maze-like world to find her way back.

Fine production, a fine setting and solid acting make Beyond the Walls an entertaining experience for the connoisseur of the unusual. I enjoyed watching the show. Good one.

Absolutely captivating. Suspense with a surprise ending. You'll love the characters. It left me wanting more! Great story with believable actors. I wish this was made into a book with more story for Lisa and Julian. I just fell in love with them

Absolutely Underrated !!!
stimpy_tr16 July 2018
Au-delà des murs is a fantastic thriller that I came across on the French Arte channel. It is about the mysterious adventure of a woman who inherits an old house across the street from a man died 30 years ago. She cracks through a wall in the mystic house and finds herself in a fantasy-dream world. The suspense and tension is maintained all throughout the movie. The main elements of a thriller is very cleverly used by the director such as the sombreness, foggy forest, zombies and some symbolic elements representing life and death. The acting is generally very successful, such as that of the main character Lisa, the little girl Sophie and the old lady Rose. I would like to congratulate the makers and actors of this film. I strongly recommend it to everyone.

What a great mini-series
filmeuro7 November 2017
I ran across the ending of the first of the 3 parts in this mini-series on Shudder. It was intense and very creepy. Then I went back and watched all 3 episodes one after another.

The first 30 minutes or so really just set up the story - let you get to know Lisa, the main character, and her personality. This is important as the entire story plays out. I was quite moved at the ending; not what I expected, but quite amazing.

This is highly recommended. If it was available in the US on DVD or Blu-Ray I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but it's not so I think Shudder is the only way to see it. Shudder is available on iTunes and Amazon.

What a great chance of pace
ravenfaust5 October 2018
This is more of a drama then thriller, but this series had me hooked. I'm a huge silent Hill fan and all I could think of was silent Hill. A never ending room,or house that you are stuck inside trying to get out. This had a few good horror type moments but nothing really scary, besides the whole premise. I loved it very well designed this show should of won awards for set design, lighting. It's such a masterpiece,!

Truly wonderful
grahamdavidson0071 February 2023
I watched this without knowing the synopsis because Je suis un Rebel.

I can honestly say it keeps you hooked throughout, a mix between the Minotaurs labyrinth and the old horror film house, mixed with some horror film tropes.

There are two main characters once the introduction passes and the story begins. Both are endearing and have deeper concerns to be unveiled.

As the story progresses, their raison d'etre begin to unfold into a sad tale a love that cannot be help for longer than the moments they are together due to time.

I want to write so much about this - but it would also be full of spoilers so go give it a watch.

It is a must see, indeed a true masterpiece.

Well done!

Wonderfully sad and unsettling
emmajawilkin3 April 2023
I advise you to go into this superb French haunted-house story knowing as little about it as possible. Unfortunately I have to say something about it to hit the IMDB word count. So, Lisa is a somewhat lost young French woman who's dealing with some past trauma. She sleeps on a mattress on the floor in her almost-empty flat, and has an imaginary husband. One day she inherits a house from someone she's never met. It isn't long before she discovers something strange behind the walls... This series is atmospheric, bleak and bitter-sweet, but ultimately redemptive, with some genuinely slow-burn scary moments (no cheap jump-scares here). Well worth your time.

Unmissable a must watch.
tandlyoung8 November 2022
I watched this on Amazon Prime (Shudder add on) and although it is in English subtitles, this French mini series was simply mind blowing. If I have a slight criticism it leaves a few questions unanswered, but this doesn't deviate the viewer from enjoying a truly wonderful viewing experience. Here in the UK it came packaged in 6 episodes rather than the three it was originally created in. It could be passed off as belonging to the haunted house genre but it's so much more than that. The same goes for the time travelling genre but once again it's far beyond this. As for the supernatural mystery genre, (I've kind off made that one up), it's well beyond that one as well. In fact this is a thrilling hybrid of all three that adds a splash of horror, thriller and mystery into a superb blend that takes the viewer into magical mystery land. If you can get past the subtitles which I managed to do, along with a lack of explanation regarding the background of the two main characters, then this is a treat you really shouldn't miss. Why oh why this series wasn't given a second season is one of the great disappointments in life I will just have to accept. A truly little known masterpiece awaits you.
