Nicolas Cage is going to star in the upcoming independent horror film titled Longlegs. While the film looks very modern, it’s actually a throwback to one Old Hollywood icon. Interestingly the director of Longlegs has a major connection to the icon in question.
Nicolas Cage’s ‘Longlegs’ was inspired by 1 of the best directors ever
Longlegs will be directed by Oz Perkins. So far, Perkins is most famous for his films I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House and Gretel & Hansel. During a 2020 interview with Polygon, Perkins discussed Longlegs, saying it was inspired by the work of cinematic legend Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock is remembered for horror films and thrillers such as Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, and North by Northwest. His movies often have good humor and a psychosexual subtext. Hitchcock might be the most acclaimed director of all time, with Stanley Kubrick being his only real rival.

The trailer for Longlegs, Nicolas Cage’s new horror movie, makes it looks like a serial killer film. Interestingly, Cage compared the film to a character from Pinocchio. However, the film was directed by the son of a horror movie legend.
Nicolas Cage said ‘Longlegs’ is about ‘a possessed Geppetto’
Anthony Perkins was a talented actor who appeared in numerous films and television shows, but he will always be most remembered for playing Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Bates was one of the first realistic serial killers to be portrayed onscreen in an American movie. Perkins would reprise the role in three sequels. His son, Oz Perkins, is now a horror director known for the offbeat films Gretel & Hansel and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. He also directed Cage’s upcoming film, Longlegs.

Cage stars in and produces “Longlegs,” the latest horror film from writer/director Oz Perkins who previously helmed “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” (2015), “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” (2016), and “Greta and Hansel” (2020).
Perkins, the son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, is officially credited as Osgood Perkins for “Longlegs.” The film is produced by Cage’s Saturn Pictures, Range, Traffic, Oddfellows, and C2 Motion Picture Group. Actress
The feature centers on a series of occult murders that are connected to an FBI detective’s (Maika Monroe) past. A cold case is reawakened; Cage, Blair Underwood, and Alicia Witt co-star in the film.

Longlegs, which is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers”, is the latest genre project from director Osgood Perkins – who, yes, is the son of actor Anthony Perkins, best remembered for his performance as Norman Bates in the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. Neon is here to crawl into your Tuesday and make it creepy. A new Longlegs trailer is perplexing horror fans today with a cryptic and extended look at Osgood Perkins’s bizarre-looking serial killer film. In the Longlegs trailer, Perkins fills the screen with disturbing imagery and perplexing prose, teasing events from a bizarre trip into the heart of darkness.
Longlegs follows FBI agent Lee Harker, “a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. Considering how much build-up Longlegs has had – with the stream of teasers, posters and symbols – the horror film had a lot to live up to, at least how it was being marketed. Fortunately for the involved parties, Longlegs looks to be one of the horror flicks to see so far this year, with most praising it for being an unnerving work that features stellar performances and channels The Silence of the Lambs.
Check out some of the early reviews of Longlegs below:
I was so lucky to see #Longlegs, and no exaggeration: it could be the best horror film of ‘24. Oz Perkins can really get under my skin; this is his masterpiece. Monroe gives a fabulously unique lead performance, and Cage? Nightmarish. Maybe the scariest 1st 10 mins, ever. pic.twitter.com/ImMEDDxGXi

A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

Whenever I get asked to recommend a good horror movie- I immediately take into consideration who I’m recommending it to. The key to a good movie recommendation is to compliment the other person’s tastes and suggest something that will comfortably expand their horizons. It also helps if the movie you’re recommending is criminally underseen for how incredibly well-made it is. Here’s what I mean- In 2020- yes, That 2020- the entire world was affected by unprecedented events that caused the everyday lives of everyday people to dramatically change. One of the many industries that suffered during this time was the Movie Theater industry. It was rough. It was stale. It was fucking Groundhog Day. At first, there were delays- movies just weren’t coming out at all. Then, some that were meant for theaters and Imax ended up going straight to streaming, delays, delays, more delays.

“Every year, there is another.” Dropped on Twitter last past weekend, a cryptic teaser that fans had to decipher and translate, Neon showed us all—even those who didn’t understand what they were seeing—the first look at “Longlegs.” An FBI horror thriller that sounds a little like “Silence Of The Lambs” in its mix of crime agencies and horror films, the movie is written and directed by Oz Perkins, the filmmaker behind “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” and episodes of “The Twilight Zone” (Perkins is also an actor and the son of classic Hollywood actor Anthony Perkins).

Leave it to Oz Perkins, the son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, to stir up another cinematic nightmare. The first teaser has been released for Perkins’ so-far-so-mysterious “Longlegs,” out from Neon on July 12, with the director here officially credited as “Osgood Perkins,” also the name of the filmmaker’s grandfather.
The horror movie, which centers on an occult killing spree and one detective’s personal connection to it, stars “It Follows” scream queen Maika Monroe as an FBI agent assigned to a cold case now reawakened. But she soon uncovers a close-to-home link to the crimes, perhaps being orchestrated by Nicolas Cage as the murderer. Blair Underwood and Alicia Witt also star.
Perkins directed his own original screenplay for the Neon release — produced by Cage’s Saturn Pictures, Range, Traffic, Oddfellows, and C2 Motion Picture Group — that shot in Vancouver in early 2023. The marketing so far has been pretty mysterious...

Ever since the dawn of the internet, the art of the tease in marketing upcoming films has essentially gone extinct. We're all used to living in a 24/7 entertainment news cycle, where it's easy for the average layman (let alone Hollywood insider) to know which actor has signed a deal to appear in what movie before the thing ever gets made, let alone premiere on cinema screens. Nostalgic cinephiles like myself long for the days when teaser trailers were a regular phenomenon, made almost expressly to announce to general audiences that these movies are coming soon without giving much (or hardly anything) away.
Although the general trend for movie trailers these days is to essentially throw the baby out with the bathwater in terms of cast, plot, big highlight moments, and the like, teaser trailers do still occasionally get made, and it's always a special occasion when these trailers actually, well,...

Grim, dead of winter foreboding, and a hint of an aged photograph aesthetic set the tone for Osgood Perkins' latest period film, Longlegs. Perkins is a kind of specialist in slow burn chillers. His previous films February or I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House are underrated in a modern-yet-bygone-era kind of way, and well worth seeking out. To that end, the new key art from design-house Grandson captures the distant, formidable isolation of rural areas in the mid to late 20th century. Longlegs is set in 1975. A clean off-white and slightly underexposed design favours bold red title cards; the ones that generally signal Horror Film. It is the unnatural, uneven, kerning that seals the deal here, it adds just a bit more...

Producers at TIFF have expressed concern that a backlog in the approvals process for SAG-AFTRA interim agreements could put them at a serious disadvantage once the dual Hollywood strikes end and the industry rushes back into production.
Filmmakers have been scrambling to package feature projects in a rare window of opportunity for independents while SAG-AFTRA strike rules prohibit its members from working for struck companies like studios and streamers on jobs that fall under the union’s TV and theatrical contracts.

The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins has been working with Nicolas Cage on a new horror project called Longlegs, and now he has just set up the horror project he’ll be moving on to when Longlegs is all wrapped up: an adaptation of the Stephen King short story The Monkey! Theo James of The White Lotus has already signed on to star in the film, which is being produced by genre regular James Wan.
Perkins will be directing The Monkey from his own screenplay. The film will tell the following story: When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.

The latest in our series of writers recommending lesser-known films available to stream is an ode to an unnerving chiller starring Ruth Wilson
There wasn’t a lot of Shirley Jackson in Haunting of Hill House, Netflix’s sensationally scary but very loose adaptation of the prolific American suspense writer’s most famous novel. Mike Flanagan, who wrote and directed the miniseries, drew clearer inspiration from a different master of the macabre – the King, instead of the queen, of bestselling horror fiction. For a closer approximation of Jackson’s uniquely unsettling voice, that gift she had for raising the hairs on the back of a reader’s neck, look instead to a more compact ghost story released by the same streaming service two years earlier. I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House isn’t officially based on any of Jackson’s more than 200 published tales. All the same,...

The third feature from director Oz Perkins, Gretel & Hansel is a stylish, female-centric reimagining of the classic Grimm fairytale. Creepy and atmospheric rather than opting for traditional scares, it’s unquestionably worth seeing for Perkins’ distinctive visuals.
Set in an indistinct but fairytale-esque time and place, the film stars Sophia Lillis as level-headed 16 year old Gretel and Sammy Leaky as her 8 year old brother Hansel, who’s cute but not too smart. When they’re cast out by their mother due to famine and poverty (“Dig yourself some pretty little graves” is her parting advice), they have a few minor adventures (including a magic mushroom trip and an unsavoury job offer) before winding up deep in the woods at the surprisingly modern-looking home of...

Director Osgood Perkins gives us the story behind his dark new fable, Gretel & Hansel, and why he thinks Sophia Lillis is a unique star.
In Gretel & Hansel, director Osgood Perkins and writer Rob Hayes take the classic fairy tale first set down by the Brothers Grimm in 1812 (although its origins may go back 500 years earlier) and return it to its dark roots while giving it just the slightest modern tweak--an act as simple as switching the order of the names in the title.
Sophia Lillis (Stephen King's It movies) stars as Gretel, who is charged with protecting her younger brother Hansel (Sammy Leakey) after the siblings are sent away by their desperate mother during a time of famine and disease. Making their way through the forbidding, dangerous and vast forest, they stumble upon the house of an elderly woman, who at first seems to...

The Brothers Grimm were aptly named: fairy tales like “Hansel and Gretel,” about a destitute couple dying of famine, who abandon their children in the woods to save their own lives, are already scary before a big, bad child-eater comes along. But sure enough, those poor children wander into the ever-so-tempting gingerbread house of a magical witch, who thoroughly intends to devour young Hansel, luring poor Gretel into helping prepare the meal.
Transforming “Hansel and Gretel” into a horror movie is hardly a cognitive leap, and it’s been done before, but perhaps never as stylishly and intelligently as in Osgood “Oz” Perkins’ “Gretel & Hansel.” The latest film from the horror auteur is full of severe production design and sensitive characterizations, and unsettling ideas about where fairy tales — and in particular, tales of villainous witches — come from in the first place.

Beware any house that smells of cake. The newest fright film by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, Gretel & Hansel promises a grim version of a familiar old story. Perkins has certainly ignited a distinctive trail through the horror forest, beginning with The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015) and continuing with I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. Working this time from a script by Rob Hayes, his newest feature is described (officially) thusly: "A long time ago in a distant fairytale countryside, a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil." Nothing like a 'nexus of terrifying evil' to suggest a film that's been rated PG-13, right?...
