Nice Wrap Up
152316 June 2020
Each of the seasons ended with its main story line wrapped up while just enough loose threads were left to tie the episode into a new plot for the next season. It appears the producers knew each season could be the last, so each had a definite finale.

Season three was no exception. The overly drawn out plot of the ancient queen closed in perhaps too neat and tidy a way, but it was put to an end, and the surviving characters dispersed to live out the rest of their days. (Yeah, Kate's resolution was bit unrealistic and out of character, but at least the episode showed where she now was and hinted at what she would be doing for the foreseeable future.) Altogether, this was not a bad episode as it managed to adequately resolve and close the series without leaving its fans in the lurch with cliff hangers and stories that never would be resolved.

What the hell happened?
marbati2 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This finale was a huge let down. I wish I didn't have to say this, but I have to. Let's start from the ending, the Geckos and Kate. Seriously? The only proper way it could have ended was to go back full circle with the two brothers as a unit continuing with their thing leaving all the rest behind. The final scene looked silly and highly unrealistic to me. The Geckos are not meant to be in a trio and she definitely does not fit in. The whole , from the beginning, with just Seth and Richie in the car, did not feel right. Their chemistry, which is normally excellent, was completely off for some odd reason. I don't understand what happened. Overall, it kinda feels like the fan-girls and Tumblr people who made Seth-Kate a thing were in charge of writing this finale. Pretty sad. The fact alone that Kate would go through all that she went through to save her brother only to run off with the Geckos in the end and go robbing banks is baffling. This whole episode was rushed and sloppy in my opinion. A disappointing end to what has already been for me an up and down season overall (and I won't get into that because this would get too long). I feel like they wrapped it all up so quickly and the execution of the whole episode was poor. The cast, which is also normally great, did not feel strong enough and virtually every decision taken in this finale was not good. Thankfully there was Carlos cause he might be the only good thing about it, seriously!! One of the main things, the defeat of the evil mighty ruthless AmaruÂ… talk about anticlimactic? All the commotion leading up to that moment , only to have it end like that?! So hasty, from the battle against Santanico to the very end of her with the Seth/Kate/Scott scene by the gate of hell. And it is a real shame also because Natalie Martinez is a great actress and we could have gotten so much more out of this. Since I mentioned Santanico, I have a problem with how she was portrayed in this episode. She kinda came across as weak, which she never did before as she was the one that even with one facial expression could put you in your place. Instead here she looked confused the whole time and all of sudden she did that 360 accepting to be the queen again but it did not seem convincing at all because, again, it was rushed and felt out of place. Now let's talk about Seth. Oh my. I feel like in this last episode they made him forget about everything he ever stood for and replaced every thought in his mind with Kate Kate Kate. I'm sorry but I never bought this Seth- Kate thing for one second. So, all the Geckos have been through brought them to this very moment where the future of Earth is at stake, right? But what does Seth seem more concerned about? Giving Kate a transfusion, of course! His brother is somewhere lost in hell for all he knows or in the hands of Amaru which is just as bad, but who has time for that, right? Totally out of character. It is definitely in character for Seth wanting to save and protect the girl, especially because he feels guilt for how things turned out for her. It's not believable that it would happen like this and turn into some sort of obsession. Seth is protective by nature and he tries to do the right thing when he can, so obviously he is not gonna let Kate die also because he feels like she somehow keeps him connected to his humanity (which is lacking all around him) but I feel like they took it a bit too far. There is nothing to be romanticized about Seth/Kate and there was never any chemistry between the two of them. Probably the unpopular opinion, but this shouldn't have been the point of the whole series. Especially since this thing between the two of them was never like that. From the start of the series we were led to believe that there was a strong connection between Kate and Richie, they even took it as far as a kissing. There was never that with Seth. Even when they had that time alone at the beginning of season 2, Seth was never really all into the situation or her. He was high on heroin the whole time unable to be without his brother and process the thought that he turned into a culebra and abandoned him. He even left Kate on the side of the road once and there was never ever the connection that they have been trying to feed us now. I think mostly for Seth it was just guilt and a sense of responsibility toward the innocent teenage girl but they stretched it for some reason. Now, Richie. Why exactly did they keep him on the sidelines for the past few episodes? I don't understand. His role in this finale was so marginal and the one thing that he does, come back from Xibalba bringing Kate with him, we are not even shown how he managed to do that. Richie is an amazing character and a fundamental part of the duo so I honestly do not understand. This finale left a bitter taste in my mouth and changed the way I will think about the whole series from now on. It makes me sad because this was such a cool, original and out of the box show. While it started off as a fun, unapologetic story about two criminal brothers with an insanely strong bond and their crazy journey into the supernatural, somewhere along the way it turned into an extremely weird unrealistic "romantic" story between a grown man and a teenager, with the brother as third wheel.
