When I was a kid, I remember the TV occasionally tuned to "The Lawrence Welk Show" and thinking of how corny many of the music acts were compared to the Top 40 acts I heard on the radio and TV during the '70s. So when I watched some of his shows from the '50s, they seem to fit right in with the period even though Rock 'n' Roll was making inroads in popular music during that time. Interesting that a legendary New Orleans jazz musician like Pete Fountain made an appearance on this show. Also, a former Mousekateeer by the name of Cubby O'Brien also appeared among other kids performing on the show like Janet Lennon of The Lennon Sisters. There was a nice mix of both secular and religious holiday music going back and forth among acts introed by Welk himself. The show ended with his introing many family members of his band before bringing his own family on stage before they performed "Jingle Bells". Overall, this was quite an enjoyable holiday ep of "The Lawrence Welk Show". My next review will be of his Christmas show of the following year of 1959...
