evokes all emotive feelings and story-lines into one episode, clearance.

Warning: Spoilers
This is the best episode of super-girl by far.

Let me give you a brief background of what previous episodes were cursed by, and what this episode has improved on.

Previous episodes of Supergirl is plagued with terrible writing unfortunately. Cara is a difficult character to understand, her actions are made very unpredictable. Cara has had relationships with so many characters in the season , she has been leading on all the men till a point where Winn confessed his love for her. Winn is an important character in the series , Cara's rejection, moving onto her other line of guys, makes the dialogue between Winn and Cara uncomfortable . With the dialogue being awkward , Cara and Winn as characters aren't developed properly and its hard as a viewer to see Cara's true feelings. The storyline is all over the place and hard to understand at point in time. Flimsy decisions that the producers make to get ratings makes me cringe, confusion gets added.

This episode made sense of all the confusion the viewers were experiencing in previous episodes. The filmography is spot on, making the confrontational scenes , inflict a more emotional response in the viewer. The acting done by Melissa Benoist was precise and actually builds a connection even after one episode.

-SPOILER- Seeing where Cara stands in her love live is well addressed, Winn finds a good connection with another woman , as if he has moved on.

Cara's screen time has been taken advantage of building an "understandable" character (for character development). The new attitude of Cara explored something new and exiting, something that builded tension in the viewer . In previous episodes the viewer wouldn't hold onto their chairs at all like this, instead they would think Cara and threats will all be OK in the end with pixies fairy dust and unicorns.

The final stretches of the episode well concluded a good storyline.

-SPOILER- Hank had risked his life and his future in the DEO to make sure Alex was OK. A selfless attitude has truly been shown between both Cara and hank. This is still the best episode so far and I truly hope it sets standards for future ones to come.

My favorite episode yet.

Warning: Spoilers
Today is 7/23/19 and I am binge watching Supergirl on Netflix. I've seen the majority of the first run show yet somehow I missed this episode and an incredible performance by Melissa Benoist.

I found her snarky bad girl persona rather humorous until she became mean and a bully. Knowing that she would be "cured" I was thinking of the damage real life people have caused with such behavior.

Once the Red Kryptonite was out of her system Melissa did an incredible job showing the heart-wrenching remorse Kara felt at her behavior toward the people she hurt and scared.

My oldest brother once told me that when people are drunk or otherwise mentally altered, they tend to tell the truth as Kara did. No matter how "good" or "righteous" we are or think we are, there are still underlying unresolved hurts and pain from our past and sometimes present, that need to be dealt with. There is a time to express these feelings and thoughts yet done from hurt and anger it is hard to repair as Kara/Supergirl is now finding out. Yes, our caped Hero's scary behavior was revealed to the people of National City to be from an external source but it would take time for them to be able to accept and trust her again. Just as in real life when have been hurt. Melissa, thank you for a wonderful performance.

Supergirl.. How it should have been from the beginning
mohameddawoud-2601915 November 2019
This is the best episode so far in this season and will be in top episodes through all seasons.. At least for me. I wanted this show to be a little dark, something similar to Gotham, or the way we saw superman in Man of steel but unfortunately it will never be that because it follows all CW/Arrowverse pattern. DC comics is at best when it's going dark. In this episode we saw a glimpse of what would happen if supergirl become malicious or a little rogue.

Breaks the mold, my favorite episode so far
lor_15 March 2016
I enjoy the "Supergirl" series, despite its obvious pandering to specific audience demographics -not the best recipe for creativity. But "Falling", a nicely titled episode reminding me of "Mad Men" thematics, was fresh in its albeit temporary unlocking of actress Benoist from her soggy goody two-shoes performance style.

Yes, this segment can serve as an audition tape for Ms. Benoist as she moves on in her career past super-heroine antics. Coincidentally I had just watched Helen Slater, that adorable big-screen Supe of 3 decades ago, as an aged character actress doing an excellent job in the final episode of "Mad Men", and it is nice that she pops up occasionally on the new series as well.

The sexy, stuck-up, "bad girl" portrayal here under the influence of Red Kryptonite, as manufactured by the erstwhile bad boy of the series played by Peter Facinelli, was surface acting but did show a bit of range for Benoist. It's a lot more fun than her overage teenage angst week after week, as she seems more a case of arrested development (as character) than a real entity. It was a lot more entertaining seeing her opposite powerhouse Flockhart as equals rather than the becoming- tiresome dom/submissive relationship week-in week-out.

Near the finale, I especially enjoyed her co-star transforming into his J'onn J'onzz character. As a kid in the '50s, the Martian Manhunter was my favorite DC personality, and it is nice to see him belatedly getting a moment or two in the sun during our current comic-book craze in pop culture.

One of the BEST SUPERHERO episodes ever!
richsifu-3607715 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you like Supergirl, this is a must see episode. Wow did they nail this one dead on IMO! The story, action, acting and especially the music was Awesome and dead on Target in this one as it TOTALLY reinforced the serious and deadly danger that a dark Kryptonian possess. It was almost like a John Williams score it so perfectly captured the emotions, danger and seriousness of the situation at each point in the show.

This show was much better before it went to the CW and when Cat Grant (Calista Flockheart) was on the show to and this episode clearly shows why.

Today is 3/15/20 and this is STILL the best episode of Supergirl and all my friends and even some of their parents who aren't even into the show that much agreed after watching it. A couple of them were even moved to tears including his father and mother after seeing this one.

I was not really familiar with Melissa Benoists acting into this show but wow.. She should have won a golden globe or something for this performance. She TOTALLY made you feel for Cara both in her regret after getting the red kryptonite removed and before while she was expressing all of her hurt, anger, jealousy etc at Alex, then when she so I'll just how much four words were hurting Alex she even turned on a bullies mindset and begin to mock and make fun of Alex's pain. Melissa captured this so perfectly and it was never seen before until this episode that like Christopher Reeves unbeatable performance in the original Superman movies, you almost thought you were looking at two different actors play two different aspects of the same character instead of the same actor.

The gradual progression of the influence of the red kryptonite on Cara where she goes from being slightly defiant to getting more and more impetuous and impatient and then to open defiance against the DEO Alex and everyone else as well as her growing ego, vanity, megalomania and to an open god complex seeking worship, even stating that nothing in the world can stop her was absolutely fantastic to watch. She even confronted Cat Grant and threw her off her 40th story balcony after Cat saw video of her letting an alien criminal go, and flew down and caught her just a few feet before she slammed into the ground and hinted she would kill her next time she summoned her again.

Then seeing cat Grant going on air and having no choice but to censure Supergirl and warn the city and the country about the danger she has become, was also extremely heart-wrenching and powerful to watch again with that fantastic musical score the background truly showing how difficult it was for cat Grant to do this to Supergirl.

One of the best things about this episode was also where Cara ended up going to a bar when she took the bar nuts, spread them out onto the bar top and started flickng them like bullets at the alcohol bottles on the shelves behind the bar breaking one after another. This was done as a special tribute and nod to Christopher Reeves exact same scene in Superman III where he was also infected by synthetic kryptonite and turned into a dark and evil character. This was really great to see then take that entire scene and copy it out of respect for what Christopher Reeves started because we're not for those successful Superman movies from the 70s and early 80s we would not have the string of superhero movies we've had for the last 20+ years now because those were the first comic book movies that were so super successful.

Cara's defiance finally culminated in her going on a city wide rampage and openly going against her sister and attacking her and the other DEO agents and even breaking Alex's arm in the process as Alex was going to shoot her with a kryptonite gun. Then just as Supergirl was charging up her heat vision to kill Alex , Hank Henshaw as Martian manhunter tackled Supergirl just in the nick of time or Alex would have been burned to a crisp.

They finally were able to use a weapon to extract the red kryptonite from Cara's body and took her to the DEO to recharge under the yellow sun lamps they have specifically for Supergirl.

But once Cara woke up and immediately realized what happened.. Her remorse was incredible deep and palpable. This is especially true when she saw Alex's broken arm in a cast and completely broke down openly crying and felt instant horror and regret beyond belief of what she had done and said and how close she came to actually killing Alex in the process and hurt so many other people to. This was one of the best scenes of acting I've ever seen on any TV show and this particular episode was even better than any of the episodes in Smallville where Clark turn to evil under the red kryptonite, and those episodes were also very very well done but this episode of Supergirl was even better and I'm a bigger fan of Smallville then I am of Supergirl.

Then the end scene where she went back to Cat Grant and try to make amends, apologizing to her and getting more words of wisdom from Cat was very powerful and deep and again, that awesome music underscoring the dead seriousness and tone of the episode with Cara fearing she's lost everyone's trust she worked so hard to build up. Her actions also changed her relationship with Jimmy Olsen forever as well with new Revelations and repercussions.. But I won't reveal everything here.

After Cara and Kat were done talking Cara asked if she can just stand there for a while on the balcony looking at the city to which Kat permits. A good 20 seconds or so passes with that incredible music playing as not another word is spoken an incredible weight of guilt and responsibility that car is feeling is clearly evident and she stares out over the city trying to fathom what it is that she has done to both the people she knows personally and the city and the world At Large by her actions.

This is just the perfect way to end a powerful episode as so often times the emotional power that even a good episode builds up is often cut short at the end and there is a quick drop off and let down which is emotionally and mentally annoying. I personally always hated what shows do that and was so glad to see that this one didn't follow suit. It reminded me of the original Star trek the next generation episode where they first encounter the Borg and were completely overwhelmed by both the power and seriousness that such an enemy represented. Even after the Enterprise was nearly destroyed the episode spent several minutes exploring the seriousness of it in a very somber scene between Captain Picard and guinan as they discuss the incredible ramifications both present and future that's such an enemy represented. The character dining played by Whoopi Goldberg then said softly "since they're aware of your existence..." Captain Picard shoulders suddenly slumped and he said in shock and surprise "They will be coming"

This episode and the others like it in the next generation that had to do with the Borg, are considered some of the best of all Star trek episodes of all series and some of the best in sci-fi history precisely because they followed a similar format with a powerful enemy, powerful music and overall dark and serious theme that are heroes may not be able to defeat.

This episode of Supergirl is right up there with those and possibly even better because again we take our righteous superhero who is unwillingly turn to the dark side and feels such incredible horror and regret and remorse that it comes right off the screen at you and hits you personally in so many ways.

Even if you're not a fan of the show overall this episode is still a must see for as mentioned, others were also moved but this episode even though they didn't want the show regularly. I've watched this episode over and over and always do wherever I need something awesome and deep and powerful to watch. I hope others enjoy it as much as I do.

Dark supergirl
Abdulxoxo20 July 2020
This is the best episode so far as other reviewers already mentioned. The idea of dark supergirl feels fresh and new. She let herself open, didn't left anything out. Just pour out what she's been holding for years. I actually like this version of supergirl and Kara especially the way she stand up to herself. Doesn't let anyone disrespects her. The but the scene with her sister was harsh! I was heartbroken. How I wish they've let her this side of her for two to three episodes but no. She's back to normal. And Melissa did a great job at showing how sorry Kara and supergirl is.

Things will never be the same!

Best episode of the season imo
fennec-391927 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dark supergirl has get siobbane out of job,her exchange with cat grant before she throw her off the building and her exchange with Alex at the apartment and james at the night club were crazy. Supergirl was facing her own self and her fight with manhunter was great. Manhunter has revealed his true identity to the world, the scene with his hand and Alex one was superb. Maxwell being the cause of that was innovative. The last exchange between cat and supergirl was very emotional. Big up Cat,she's the best character on this show.

Not the best episode.
nbastreetmaster20 March 2016
Felt like this episode is the weakest one so far with red kryptonite turning Kara into a cat clone. But like in most shows they have some episodes that aren't as good as the other ones. And this show's no exception. That being said it's not the worse episode still good enough. But could of been way better with a different episode idea. Still Supergirl is still a good show and the future episodes can just get better from here on. Season one has been great so far in my opinion even this one though not the best is still a 6/10 in my opinion and I'm sure the next episode will be great. In all i find this show a good alternative from the superman and Smallville shows that we're on before this one. As you get the story from Superman's cousins side.

Dark Day for Superheroes
robdavis38111 April 2016
After all the negativity going on with Batman vs Superman and the attempted destruction of every superhero we grew up with, this episode takes the cake for the stupidest most depressing anti-superhero episode of the Supergirl series. If they want Supergirl to continue to be on TV they have to stop this storyline. There's too much cynicism in today's culture and to try to destroy all the goodness represented by superheroes like Superman and Supergirl is just an expression of that cynicism. If I wanted to see that I could just watch news instead of TV shows and movies that try to destroy all that is good in the world. Wake up people to the nonsense and rise up and stop this before there's nothing left to believe in.
