I remember as a high school student, reading a Ray Bradbury story called "Marionettes Inc." A man who has a clingy wife, buys a robot who is to take his place while he runs off and enjoys himself. Of course, there are dire consequences. Here, a lonely IT guy creates a "friend." The problem is that once he puts emotions in the thing, it begins to seek out love from a pretty young employee. This is a bit old time sci fi stuff. Not bad, but it's been done before.
