The movie is based on a true story of Hamdani, a factory worker in Tangerang, West Java, Indonesia, who fought for his right by forming a union with his fellow workers, but later he was arrested for wearing a holed sandal (slipper) to the bathroom in the factory's little mosque (mushola) as if he stole it.
Holed Slipper for Hamdani won the Vidia Award (Best TV Show) for Indonesian annual Film Festival (FFI) in 2004 and won a Special Prize from the first Seoul Drama Award (2006).
