The Club House
boblipton13 April 2023
Well known actors, directors, and even a few of their spouses show up for the opening of Movieland's club house.

All that I was able to see of this short was three minutes covering that event. Short subjects in which the audience got to see Tinseltown's elite when away from the stage were popular, and this was one of those series; it seems to have been produced for several editions in 1927.

Few of the names and faces will be familiar to the modern moviegoer. For those of us who enjoy movies of this period, it's good to be able to tie a face to a name without having to figure out which character they're playing.

Nice Footage of Chaney and Baby Peggy

Life in Hollywood No. 3 (1927)

*** (out of 4)

Universal Studios is the location that is visited in the third entry in the series. I will just say right now that the highlight here is a reporting walking around the sets of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME as Lon Chaney shows him a few things including how he walks up the sets. It should be noted that Chaney is without his make up. Other things seen in this episode include Baby Peggy being directed by Jess Robbins as they prepare for a scene. Mary Philbin is seen being directed by Irvin Cummings and we also get Emmett Corrigan not knowing how to dress on the set.

Other actors/entertainers we see include Max Davidson, Margaret Morris, Neeley Edwards, Bert Roach, King Baggott, Hobart Henley, Hoot Gibson, Ed Sedgwick, Pete Morrison, Bob Hill and others. Again, most of these names have been forgotten over the years but if you're a film buff and a fan of silent cinema this is a must see since we get some really cool behind-the-scenes footage that is quite rare today. The stuff with Chaney was certainly the highlight but it was also nice seeing Baby Peggy on the set before shooting started.
