Lady Gaga‘s “Hold My Hand” song was unarguably a masterpiece. Lady Gaga needs no formal introduction in the music scene, as she’s one of the most successful female artists in the world. Among her impressive discography, “Hold My Hand” stands out as a poignant and emotionally charged track that showcases Gaga’s versatility as a musician and her ability to connect with listeners on a profound level. Unsurprisingly, Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” song was chosen as the lead single for Top Gun: Maverick‘s (2022) soundtrack album Top Gun: Maverick (Music from the Motion Picture). From its lyrics to visuals, “Hold...

Ryan Coogler‘s “Black Panther” made history four years ago when it won the first Oscar for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film — in fact, it won three: Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Score. Now, the highly anticipated sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” has been nominated for five Academy Awards and could very likely win the same number of trophies. Just like last time around, the sequel is the favorite to win Best Costume Design for Ruth E. Carter. Its other potential victories are for a pair of A-list superstars: Angela Bassett in Best Supporting Actress and Rihanna in Best Song. (“Wakanda” is also nominated for Best Makeup & Hairstyling and Best Visual Effects.)
The original blockbuster received a total of seven Oscar nominations including a coveted Best Picture bid, a first (and so far only) such feat for an MCU movie. “Black Panther” won for costumes, production design and score,...

Diane Warren received an honorary Oscar this year — but holds the record in the original song category for more nominations without a single win. Yet the songwriter doesn’t appear to be bitter about it — and actually maintains a sense of humor about the dubious honor. Now, she’s at it again with her 14th career nom for the track “Applause,” via the film “Tell It Like a Woman.”
On this episode of the award-winning Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, we sit down with Warren to talk about her stunning career as a songwriter who’s worked with the talents of Cher, Lady Gaga and Aerosmith. She discusses which times she thought she would win and plays the game “Who Beat Diane?” Listen below:

The domestic box office average of the 10 best picture nominees stands at 157 million and counting — the fourth highest of any slate in the past 25 years. While it was ‘Naatu Naatu’ that made a lot of noise with its Oscars nomination, another song ‘Applause’ from the film ‘Tell it Like a Woman’ is also competing against the global phenomenon in the Best Original Song category.
Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez, who also stars in the film, recently shared her happiness with the track earning the nomination.
The song titled ‘Applause’ has been penned by singer Diane Warren, a recipient of 13 Oscar nominations and spreads the message of strength and empowerment.
Excited with the Oscar nomination, Jacqueline said, “I am so proud of the entire team of ‘Tell It Like A Woman’ and especially Dianne and Sofia who created such magical music with ‘Applause’. The whole experience of doing this film was just as magical for me.”

“Jump until the dust rises in the air! Naatu Naatu Naatu!“
These words, said during the show-stopping number “Naatu Naatu” from the epic Indian blockbuster “Rrr,” have reached the ears of audiences and have sparked dance-offs in theaters from Chennai all the way to Hollywood. And now those words are a part of Oscar history as “Naatu Naatu” has become the first nominee for Best Original Song to come from an Indian film.
“I’ve seen so many people get carried away with the emotion of the song. It’s a frenzy,” “Rrr” composer M.M. Keeravaani told TheWrap. “Seeing so many people going to the front of the theater to dance and clap and stomp with the song is just like winning an award.”

With the 2023 Oscar nominations announced today, "Top Gun: Maverick" is flying high with six nominations including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Film Editing, Best Visual Effects and, finally, Best Original Song for the Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand." Seeing how the long awaited sequel almost single-handedly brought the moviegoing public back to theaters after the pandemic, the recognition today for Best Picture didn't seem to surprise that many people. Not only is it one of the best sequels ever made, it's grossed almost 1.5 billion at the box office. That kind of mammoth success doesn't usually translate to Oscar gold, but Tom Cruise and company delivered a surprisingly emotional follow-up that doesn't just thrill the audience with aerial acrobatics. It actually has heart.
One nomination that is a little unexpected is Adapted Screenplay. At first glance, the script doesn't seem in concert with the dialogue-heavy screenplays that usually prick up the ears of voters.

On Tuesday morning, seven years after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last announced its Oscar nominations in front of press and publicists (that announcement turned out to be the second consecutive one without any Black acting nominees, aka #OscarsSoWhite), the in-person gathering returned to the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. And this time, Academy insiders, less than a year removed from “The Slap” Oscars telecast and its near record-low ratings, must have been very happy that they had an audience for an announcement that yielded some promising news for the organization and its 95th Oscars ceremony.
The nominations have set up the show for success
Twenty-five years ago, the Academy and its broadcasting partner, ABC, rode the wake of James Cameron’s Titanic to what was then, and remains today, the highest-rated Oscars telecast — and the highest-rated awards show of any kind — ever. That ceremony serves as a reminder...

The Academy has released the list of nominations for the 2023 Oscars. Everything Everywhere All at Once led the pack this year with 11 nominations, followed closely by the war drama All Quiet On The Western Front and dark comedy The Banshees of Inisherin.
A few actors who made big comebacks this year received nominations for their roles, including Brendan Fraser for The Whale and former child actor Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Also in the running for best actor are Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Billy Nighy and Paul Mescal, all first-time nominees. In a surprising nod to indie film To Leslie, Andrea Riseborough scored a nomination for best actress. The race also includes Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh.
Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Oscars, making his third appearance as emcee after his previous hosting stints in 2017 and 2018.

The 95th Oscars on March 12 have a real shot at a ratings boost with brand-name contenders. There’s nominations leader “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, sequels “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” and original global hit “Elvis”, all vying for Best Picture.
Global box office may succeed in luring more eyeballs to the stateside ABC broadcast and more than 200 countries around the world, but a sequel is unlikely to win the top prize. A mainstream crowdpleaser that tugs at audience heartstrings is more likely to take home the win, like recent winners “Coda,” “Nomadland,” and “Green Book.”
Every year, the entire Academy membership votes to nominate Best Picture. This year the increasingly international body revealed itself yet again, nominating (for the eighth time) a non-English language film for both International Feature and Best Picture. Jerry Bruckheimer has produced more than 50 films, but, for the first time at age 79, the Top Gun: Maverick producer can add a new line to his resume: Oscar nominee.
“I’ve been doing this a long time and it finally got around to me,” Bruckheimer said, speaking Tuesday morning from his home in Los Angeles, after learning that the Tom Cruise-starring action sequel has been nominated for six Oscars, including best picture.
The Paramount movie, which has grossed 1.49 billion worldwide, is also nominated in the adapted screenplay, original song for Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand,” editing, visual effects and sound categories.
“We brought an older audience back to theaters who hadn’t been going,” Bruckheimer says, of Top Gun: Maverick, which opened May 27 with a 96 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a rare A+ Cinemascore from audiences. “And I think the Academy responded to that.”

When the Oscar nominations were announced early on Tuesday, Jan. 24, there was one major person who didn't make the list: Taylor Swift. Swift was on the Oscar shortlist for best original song for her track "Carolina," which she wrote and performed for July 2022's "Where the Crawdads Sing." But the singer didn't make the list of nominations, which includes Rihanna's "Lift Me Up" from "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand" from "Top Gun: Maverick." Mitski and David Byrne also surprisingly received a nomination for their song from "Everything Everywhere All at Once."
Swift was also hoping for another nomination for her "All Too Well: The Short Film," which she released alongside "Red (Taylor's Version)" in the fall of 2021 (short films have a different eligibility period than other categories). She campaigned the film, which stars Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien, at festivals throughout the year,...

First-time Oscar nominee Rihanna is among the musicians in the mix for best original song after the 95th Academy Award nominations were announced Tuesday morning.
Rihanna earned her nod for “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Released in November, the song marked Rihanna’s first original composition in many years, and the singer shares songwriting credit with director Ryan Coogler, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson and Nigerian singer Tems.
Rrr‘s “Naatu Naatu” also earned a nomination following its win in this category at both the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards, with the film’s composer M. M. Keeravani sharing songwriting credit with lyricist Chandrabose.
Also among the nominees were Lady Gaga, a previous winner in this category for A Star Is Born, for Top Gun: Maverick‘s “Hold My Hand,” co-written with Bloodpop. Diane Warren, who maintains her record as the most-nominated songwriter without a win, received her 14th nomination for “Applause,...

The nominations for the 2023 Academy Awards are one of the least-dignified things I have had to scramble with after (admittedly) sleeping in late, and if it’s never the right time to have a sincere opinion on what this sort-of-defined yet ultimately amorphous group thinks about the 20-or-so movies they bothered to see at a paid screening it’s also best to get onto the nominations while (also) noting it’s pretty hilarious Andrea Riseborough’s hail-mary To Leslie campaign worked, Elvis‘ editing nomination might suggest “cuts a lot” is their primary requirement, and the film industry might be at its lowest point ever if the Russo brothers win Best Picture statues.

Top Gun: Maverick scored six Oscar nominations this morning including best picture, along with adapted screenplay by Ehren Kruger & Eric Warren Singer, sound, film editing, visual effects and original song for the Lady Gaga tune “Hold My Hand”. The film’s emergence as a best picture threat might have seemed an impossible mission, in that a summer movie that grosses nearly 1.5 billion worldwide moves popcorn, not Oscar voters. This Paramount Pictures film has proven to be the exception and one big reason is this: if Tom Cruise didn’t rescue the theatrical box office business following the Covid pandemic, he certainly pulled it out of a nosedive. While Cruise did not get nominated for best actor, he is squarely in the mix as producer, alongside first time Oscar nominee and hitmaking stalwart Jerry Bruckheimer, Christopher McQuarrie (a double nominee counting the adapted screenplay category) and Skydance principal David Ellison.

The Oscar Best Original Song nominees list is packed with a powerhouse roster of talent, including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, David Byrne. That sets up a collision of current musical giants come Oscar night. Of course, there’s Diane Warren, the recipient of an Honorary Oscar last month and a musical giant in her own right. She’s garnered a 14th nomination in the category with “Applause,” from the little-seen doc Tell It Like a Woman.
Not on the list is Taylor Swift, whose “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing was on the shortlist of 15 films in contention to be nominated.
While she is a seven-time Grammy winner, Rihanna’s nomination today is her first Oscar nod.

The Oscar category of Best Original Song seems to have a concrete group of four tunes anticipated to be selected as nominees for Tuesday’s announcement. They include Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award winner “Naatu Naatu” from “Rrr” (M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose), plus “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, and “Ciao Papa” from “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio”. That leaves at least one spot potentially open for a surprise nominee. When predicting the song category, it is best to keep in mind that the music branch clearly has their favorites, and that usually tends to fill up a couple uncertain slots. This year, two of those songwriters may have a better shot at another Oscar nomination than most people think: perennial nominees Diane Warren for “Applause” from “Tell It Like A Woman,” and J. Ralph for “Dust & Ash” from the documentary...
