Watching "Hillary's America", it's blindingly evident that Dinesh D'Souza's really mad at the Obama Administration. I think "butthurt" is what the kids are calling it these days. Hard to argue against that when you open your movie by recounting your imprisonment over campaign finance transgressions; those scenes are utter self-victimization. From there, it's fifty minutes of exposing the Democratic party's sinister history of slavery and oppression. D'Souza's sick of the Republicans being called racists, I get it. He doesn't even get around to Hillary until over an hour in; and even then, it's just an excuse to get Planned Parenthood in his crosshairs. It's all over the map.
Clearly, this is not for me. Hell, I can't even recommend this to anyone because it has no redeeming value. Facts are eschewed in favor of cheap reenactments, and all he knows how to do is beat you over the head with the same message. Subtlety is not one of his virtues. This is good for a few laughs in the beginning, but it becomes a real endurance test soon after. Give the man credit for nabbing the highest-grossing documentary honor for what is thinly-veiled propaganda, but he is an awful filmmaker.
