I don't know if I've said this before, but this show seriously makes me laugh more than any other kid's show I have ever seen in my life. In modern times, it seems like kid's show focus more on plot than comedy. This, however, is a wonderful exception. The best joke of all might come right from the beginning where Gumball looks at a cat in a cage. That is, a live-action normal cat. Nicole (his mom) says, "It's best just not to think about it". A great original joke for the show! This episode features Darwin being sad staring at a fish tank. The other Wattersons think this means he's homesick for the ocean.
I especially love the part where Darwin is on the freeway and dodges a freaking explosion from behind! It's so great that a 15 minute show can be so epic! They really make use of the time well. I guess most cartoons just don't have double episodes anymore. They just air two different 15 minute ones. The animation is as wonderful as ever. It's great how the Wattersons comfort Darwin after he says he was trying to guilt trip them because that's what a true member of their family does! My only complaint is that I was annoyed by the whales being translated as crying out for help. I'm really not into the animal rights thing. ***1/2
