It is a film about past. It could be defined as a war or love or oldness film. The name is not important in this case. It could be perceived as a film about Ukraina or cultural clash or generation conflict. An old man looking to discover his love from youth in Ukraina. Near his granddaughter and a young man as guide. Events, facts, words , discoveries. And something defined by a sort of bitter magic. The story is not new and not impressive at the first sigh. For me, as half Ukrainian, the film has a special significance. But , out of subjective motifs, its great , basic virtue is the admirable performance of Jurgen Prochnow. An impressive story. A lovely film. About past, love and grandparents.
