Flop but kinda good?

Okay, I know this reboot flopped. And it's not even slightly as good as the original franchise. But it is still watchable and...different.

It's not the best and it was a little disappointing to see the characters had changed But! I loved Frankie's personality so that change was good and she seems a bit adhd coded in this movie <3 I also thought making draculaura the main character was an ok choice as she is the fan favorite. Also lagoona's design was so cool. As for background designs.... they were pretty subpar in my opinion. Still better movie then what Barbie has been putting out recently.

Change isn't always for the best

When I saw the trailer I was already scared about some major changes, but this is nothing like the monster high you know. So a quick list of some major faults/changes that were made in this movie:

1. Draculaura used to go to an all vampire school before an incident occurred and she had to move away. In welcome to monster high draculaura did not go to an all vampire school or any school whatsoever she has stayed in the attic since like forever.... 2. In frights, camera, action draculaura obtained her vampire powers after she did something important. In welcome to monster high she already has the ability to change into a bat... 3. In monster high freaky fusion the ghouls go back in time to when monster high was just established.... In welcome to monster high draculaura and Frankie are the founders of monster high which is a boarding school.... 4. Abbey bominable is no more.... In welcome to monster high you can see a yeti with the same hair colors and overall look as abbey just not with clothes or anything that looks like the abbey we know... 5. Ghoulia is also cut out.... Now it looks like the new Frankie is a fusion of ghoulias brain and Frankie's looks.... I think that the new Frankie just lacks the enthusiasm and feeling the old Frankie had.... 6. Clawdeen had a lot of siblings like older sister clawdia , brother clawd , younger sister howleen,,,, She now has about 10 younger brothers and howleen , clawdia and clawd are gone. Yes this also means no more draculaura and clawd... 7. Gil is also nowhere to be seen.... He could still be introduced but I haven't seen him anywhere in the entire movie... 8. So who are still left that we do know from monster high? for now only twyla , toralei , Venus and deus. 9. Deus is no longer the cool guy he is now shy and lacks any confidence...

I can only hope that the next movie will consider all that has happened in all the other movies and webisodes because this is just sad to watch.....

Just read the book

Trying way too hard to be the book, the show, and Hotel Transylvania.

I mean Monster High isn't a dorm school and in the book Drac made monster high against Draculauras wishes.

Changed the voices, mannerisms, personalities, outfits, faces, monster powers, and origin stories of characters and left characters out. Like the headless principal? Abbie? Ghoulia? Clawdeen's older brother Clawd and younger sister Howleen? Also like everyone has fangs. What the heck?? Not everyone is a fanged monster. Like deuce. I wish they had just done the book because that one makes the most sense as an origin story, and has my favorite character in it (melody).

Also what's with all the pain scenes? Keep smacking them over the head or having them fall down a house.

I absolutely hate the reboot. It's so girly and so boring. This is the worst Monster High movie I've ever seen.

One important thing to remember when going into this movie is that it is a reboot. All previous movies and webisodes are non-canon to this timeline.

As someone who has been a fan of the series since the beginning, I was skeptical about this reboot. But surprisingly, it is a good movie and a nice reboot to the series. While some fan-favorites are missing from the film (Ghoulia, Abbey and Spectra), they are not gone, according to the company. And save for Frankie and Lagoona, the voice cast is from the older movies and show.

The characters are given a lot more depth and the interactions between Draculaura and her father feel genuine. In the show, Frankie was just a klutzy character with no real link to her origins besides the stitches. In the reboot, she actually is into science and technology (a lot like Ghoulia was), better showcasing that she is the daughter of Frankenstein's Monster.

Overall, I think this is a fun and enjoyable movie and a good start to a new timeline.

Horrible

Not only was the plot line changed and characters erased, but the existing characters' personalities changed as well. Watching this movie, it's very obvious it's a last ditch effort to save their franchise. This barely even relates to the original. Bring old MH back.

I just watched this with my 5 year old daughter and she loved it.

It's the same as the old series with admittedly a few changes to the origin.

The animation is much better and more effort seems to have been made to character development.

As stated I don't really feel this a 10 star film (more like 6/7) but as there are only a few reviews I found the average unfair.

Nothing special

This is the worst Monster High movie. None of the elements I adore are in this movie. The voice acting for Frankie and Lagoona is too off. The animation is pretty bad and makes me miss the old animation a lot. Even the animated series is better than this. Also, the new girl is so annoying. Honestly you forget she's there half the time. And I hated the new story when they already had an amazing one. However, I did love the animals Draculaura and Clawdeen turned into. Plus, seeing the girls get all the other ghouls around the world was interesting. Monster High: Welcome to Monster High feels like a rip off of such great movies.

An overly saturated soul sucking reboot

Were the old movies the pinnacle of animation and story telling? No of course not, they could have been improved in various places. But in comparison to this? They feel far better in every way that matters. The reboot takes everything from the original Monster High and erases it. The entire original storyline and everything you learned about the world? Gone.

Instead it is replaced by a cheap and boring not to mention overly saturated version. The characters somehow lose all personality in this reboot and are replaced with dismal clones. Especially Dracula, the sophisticated Vampire everyone expects is replaced by some sort of generic timid sweater vest wearing version.

The plot is poorly done as were the graphics, feeling like a cross between clay and 3D. Even the 3D for season one of Sailor Moon Crystal was better than the one used for Welcome to monster high.

Not everyone is a fan of change. So a lot of bad ratings come in. But it is also a reboot, so of course there is going to be a lot in difference. Of course having a 10 year old, I've seen so much of the older Monster Highs. But I like that they give it a new light and story. And it isn't an "old" series. Shows and movies get changed around an awful lot. I loved the graphics better, the voice acting, and storytelling. I was skeptical at first watching it,but I really enjoyed it, by surprise.
