This building, built in 1540, has its fair share of ghosts. Guests have been awakened by the sound of a drummer boy and have seen a grey lady walking through the dining room. On the upper floor, the spirit of a maid is often seen - a woman who committed suicide many years ago.

Standing in the shadow of the mountain for which it was named, the first floor of the Skirrid Inn was used as a courtroom for serious offences, where people were given capital punishment. According to local legend, more than 180 convicted felons hanged from an oak beam over the staircase just outside the courtroom.
