Free Republic: The Story of Herbert J. Yates (2016)
*** (out of 4)
The title pretty much tells you what you need to know about this featurette that has Marc Wanamaker telling us about Herbert J. Yates and how he started Republic Pictures. If you're not familiar with Republic or Yates then you're certainly going to enjoy this piece as it quickly tells you about the rise and fall of the studio. We learn about various projects that Republic did including their John Wayne stuff but also how Orson Welles sold them on the idea of MACBETH. This is a pretty good featurette that doesn't have a lot of details but it's a good way to learn about the studio and the man behind it. Those unfamiliar with the subject will get the most out of this.
