As Netflix’s library of films ebbs and flows, finding the right movie to watch can feel like bailing out an ocean with a spoon. And if you’re looking for a quality horror movie in particular, the search only gets harder. With the reality that Horror is one of the cheapest genres to produce, streamers like Netflix are cluttered with a veritable tsunami of bloody titles that sometimes seem indistinguishable from one another.
If you’re looking for a good horror movie to watch on Netflix that will truly scare you, picking a final selection can prove a more daunting task than sitting through yet another “Haunting of Hill House” rewatch; with or without its beloved “Bly Manor” chaser. But while the streamer’s priorities seem to shift as quickly as its content selection grows, Netflix’s horror library remains a high point — with original triumphs, including Guillermo del Toro...

When I previously wrote my review of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, I mentioned that I was optimistic for the series to be renewed for another season, but questioned how the showrunners would be able to introduce a fresh batch of conflicts for our Millwood liars to tackle. After all, “A” had been apprehended! The main characters seemed to have found closure, and the future seemed bright and unobstructed for each of them.
And then came the summer. Summer School, that is.
As expected in any iteration of Pretty Little Liars, a new A has emerged to torment our five final girls who are stuck in Millwood attending summer school; this time in the form of Bloody Rose–a crimson soaked, knife brandishing antagonist that I would argue is much scarier than our season 1 stalker, Archie Waters. As things heat up with Bloody Rose, the summer brings a slew of...

2021's Fear Street trilogy proved to be a major success for Netflix, and amid persistent rumors that the streamer might be planning to develop more adaptations of R.L. Stine's work, we got confirmation that a Fear Street movie was in the works last November.
Netflix recently announced the full cast and a synopsis for Fear Street: Prom Queen (or Fear Street '88: Prom Queen as it's titled in this video), and the streamer has now revealed that filming is officially underway.
We also have a brief behind-the-scenes teaser featuring several members of the cast chatting about the show as they prepare to shoot their scenes. Something tells us their characters won't be having quite as much fun as Prom Night progresses.
Directed by Matt Palmer (Calibre), the ensemble cast includes India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono,...

During the quarantine era of the Covid-19 pandemic, major cultural events were shaped by an internet connection. Many remember the weeks' worth of discussions after watching Netflix's "Tiger King" shortly after the world started shutting down, and the hours spent toiling away in virtual worlds like "Animal Crossing." But for horror fans, one of the biggest events happened in 2021, when Netflix released a trilogy of horror films based on R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" novels, with a new film released three Fridays in a row. Director Leigh Janiak created "Fear Street Part One: 1994," "Fear Street Part Two: 1978," and "Fear Street Part Three: 1666" based on Stine's books but without directly following any specific storyline, and they instantly became must-watch movies.

Get ready to take another walk down Fear Street. The hit trilogy of horror films started and concluded in 2021, with all three installments landing at Netflix on consecutive weeks. Now Fear Street: Prom Queen will bring us back to the dark heart of Shadyside. With production starting now, you can check out a very 80s sneak peek at the set below.
The first three Fear Street films traveled further and further back into the bloody history of the aptly named town. At the end of Part Three, evil seemed vanquished for good — until a post-credits scene showed an unknown figure steal a sinister tome. Evil never really dies in Shadyside.
Directed by Matt Palmer (who co-wrote the film with Donald McLeary), Fear Street: Prom Queen picks up the story in 1988, at a high school dance the town will never forget. You can take a stab at the...

Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. A while back, Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix Film, said they were developing a new standalone Fear Street project. Then Stine took to social media to reveal that the fourth Fear Street movie would be based on his 1992 book The Prom Queen… and now Fear Street: Prom Queen has a cast! Netflix has announced (via Deadline) that the...

Netflix's shadiest horror franchise is targeting its next set of victims. The slasher series "Fear Street" debuted back in 2021 as three full-length movies set in the fictional but aptly-named town of Shadyside, based on author R.L. Stine's popular "Cheerleaders" sub-trilogy within the "Fear Street" novels. The mega-sized special event was released over the course of three consecutive weeks on the streaming service (check out /Film's spoiler review of the movies here), pulled in a ton of viewers, earned consistently high praise among critics, and served up all sorts of gory kills and supernatural chills -- along with one heck of a memorable kill by a particularly deadly bread slicer. Fans have been clamoring for more sequels ever since and rumors of new movies have swirled since at least 2022, but now we've heard straight from the studio that another release has officially been greenlit.

After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!
The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.
The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

R L Stine’s Goosebumps has been renewed for a second series at Disney+, with a change in format to an anthology show.
R L Stine’s Goosebumps is one of the bestselling book series in history. It is no surprise that it has had myriad screen adaptations over the years.
Perhaps the most fondly remembered is the 1990s television series, which had memorable opening titles in which the shadow of the G in Goosebumps made it’s way through an eerie town while the unsettling theme tune played over it.
Many of the original novels were adapted, and it marked a high point for television horror aimed at young adults, as it was broadcast around the same time as Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, a horror anthology aimed at older teenagers. Several of Stine’s works have made it to the screen, from a trilogy of Fear Street...

A couple months ago, Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix Film, said they were developing a new standalone Fear Street project. Now Stine has taken to social media to reveal that the fourth Fear Street movie is going to be based on his 1992 book The Prom Queen!

Netflix is set to go into production on a new R.L. Stine film based on his Fear Street series. The next movie will be based on The Prom Queen.
“Movie News: I can finally announce that a new Fear Street movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It’s based on my Fear Street book, The Prom Queen. Good news!” Stine wrote in a social media post (see below).
Netflix released one Fear Street movie a week for three weeks in 2021. The trilogy was inspired by R. L. Stine’s Fear Street: 1994, Fear Street: 1978, and Fear Street: 1666, but were not based on any specific books written by Stine.
Netflix confirmed back in November that a standalone Fear Street film was in the works, and that this time, the film will be based on a specific book.

It's a good time to be an R.L. Stine fan. After adapting his "Cheerleaders" trilogy in 2021, Netflix is back to adapt another "Fear Street" novel, this time as a standalone movie. Stine himself announced the news on X/Twitter yesterday:
"A new 'Fear Street' movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It's based on my 'Fear Street' book, 'The Prom Queen.' Good news!"
The 1992 novel takes place once again in the appropriately-named town of Shadyside. The town's high school has prom coming up, and there are five potential Prom Queen candidates in the running. But somebody starts killing the girls one by one, and it's up to main character Lizzie McVay to get to the bottom of things before she herself is murdered. In 2022 it was reported that Chloe Okuno (director of "Watcher" and "Slut") had closed a deal to direct the next "Fear Street" movie,...

Author R.L. Stine revealed on Saturday that a new Fear Street movie is in the works at Netflix.
The film is set to be adapted from Stine’s 1992 novel The Prom Queen, which is from his Fear Street book series.
“Movie News: I can finally announce that a new Fear Street movie is about to go into production for Netflix,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “It’s based on my Fear Street book, The Prom Queen. Good news!”
The project will be the fourth Fear Street movie adapted from Stine’s popular book series. A trilogy, consisting of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, was previously released on Netflix over three consecutive weeks in 2021. They were directed by Leigh Janiak and followed a “group of teenagers who discover terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected,” per the trilogy’s logline.

Watching Christmas horror movies is a proud tradition for spooky fiends looking to escape their post-Halloween blues and the agonizing two months of forced consumerism and awful music blasting in every department store. The films in this very specific category are known for subverting the cheer and innocence associated with the holiday, and often focus on characters experiencing isolation because their family situation is far from those depicted in generic Hallmark Christmas movies. Every year, we are treated to new ideas on how to make Christmas creepy, and this year fans should be snuggling up on the couch to view is The Sacrifice Game.

Two years after the ambitious trilogy directed by Leigh Janiak, Netflix is headed back to R.L. Stine‘s Fear Street with a brand new movie, Collider reports this afternoon.
Granted, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a potential fourth Fear Street movie. As you may recall, it had been reported back in December 2022 that a new movie was in the works, and Netflix’s Scott Stuber reveals to Collider this week that those plans haven’t changed.
Stuber, Head of Netflix Film, explains: “Obviously, there’s a lot of books. There’s one stand-alone that we’re working on right now that we’re once again trying to get the script right, but I like it very much, and so does the team. So I feel like if we can get that script right there would be a great kind of extension of that franchise.”

Iconic scaremaker R.L. Stine has been terrorizing kids and teens for over three decades. The mere mention of the author’s name readily brings up memories of Goosebumps and Fear Street. Yet, it was his two short-story collections, The Haunting Hour and Nightmare Hour, that inspired one of the best horror TV shows for young people.
The beginnings of The Haunting Hour can be traced back to a 2007 straight-to-video movie called Don’t Think About It, which then aired on Cartoon Network. Despite its title and Stine’s writing credit, though, the movie’s script wasn’t based on anything from its literary namesake. In fact, this was an original story penned by creative partners Dan Angel and Billy Brown. One of the production companies behind Don’t Think About It, The Hatchery, then revived the Haunting Hour brand a few years later once its co-founder and the movie’s executive producer,...

Within the first five minutes of Disney+’s new Goosebumps adaptation, it’s clear that viewers are no longer in R.L. Stine’s creepy, scary version of middle-grade horror.
Developed by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, the show is one of the first real steps into the teen arena for both Disney+ and the book series. The new 10 episode horror comedy focuses on five high schoolers who find themselves in the possession of cursed or haunted items after one fateful night at a house party, the very place a young man died in a horrible and mystery fire years earlier.

Kevin Costner is coming back to theaters next summer, with double the Western goodness for fans. Warner Bros. revealed on Thursday that “Horizon: An American Saga” will be a two-part western epic, with both installments releasing in theaters next summer. “Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1” will open on June 28 while “Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2” will arrive in theaters on Aug. 16.

This article contains light spoilers for the One Piece manga and anime.
Technically the heroes of One Piece, the Straw Hat Pirates, are villains in their own right. But like any good outlaw story, the truth is always more complicated than just who’s right and who’s wrong. The Straw Hats are pirates, which means they don’t abide by the laws of the World Government. Instead, they fly a jolly roger and sail in search of grand adventure, treasure, and ultimately freedom. Monkey D. Luffy is our main character, he’s unquestionably a hero, and is as strong as he is stupid. He’s very strong and he’s very stupid, but in a lovable, goofy way that draws people to him like a magnet.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is many things – it’s a cracking good horror movie that is set almost entirely on a doomed ship traveling from Transylvania to London; it’s a refreshing expansion of “Dracula” lore; and it also is a nice nod to Universal Pictures’ classic monster-filled past. It’s existence, though, feels like a bit of a miracle, especially if you had followed the project’s development over the past 20 – yes, 20 – years. That might be the blink of an eye to an immortal creature of the night like Dracula, but in moviemaking terms, that’s an eternity.
Let’s take a look at where “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” started, with a spec script that shook up Hollywood, and where it ended up, as a big studio movie from Universal, with commentary from the eventual film’s director André Øvredal.
Just be warned: there are choppy waters ahead.

The Toronto International Film Festival announced today the 2023 selections for the highly regarded Midnight Madness program.
The infamous Midnight Madness lineup features 10 titles, 7 of which are World Premieres, and highlight the weird and the wicked of film.
“Sides will be split — both figuratively and literally (on screen) — as Midnight Madness returns to the Royal Alexandra Theatre with another stimulating concoction of unpredictable shock and ‘y’arr!’ cinema,” said Peter Kuplowsky, TIFF International Programmer, Midnight Madness. “Featuring two timely satiric provocations from Saudi Arabia (Naga) and Serbia (Working Class Goes to Hell) — nations that are making their section debut — this year’s madness infectiously ignites with 11 o’clock numbers that go all the way to midnight courtesy of Larry Charles’ bonkers and bawdy Dicks: The Musical. A menagerie of tastes will be sated, so bottoms up!
